Hi. I rescued my Rufus (snapper) in late September. He top shell was the size of a nickel. I guestimate in Illinois that he/she hatched around June-July? Is that a good guess of 90 days in the nest before leaving and finding his way to me on my doorstep. Very cool video. Keeps us updated. How old was the mother? If her eggs aren't fertilized, then are they worth keeping to eat? I wouldn't, but I'm curious. I eat everything. But now I have Rufus. Turtle is off the menu. Back in California, my girlfriend niece always gave us fresh chicken, duck and goose eggs. You know they always had had that dried nasty stuff on the shell.
Do u recommend I let my turtle eggs hatch naturally in their pond or should I incubate them. And also what type of sand do u use for the turtles in the incubator
What kind of substrate mix did you use for the first incubation box shown in this video? I don’t have egg laying turtles but it looks like perfect soil mix for germinating my plant seeds
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ yeah Vermiculite is very commonly used growing medium for seedlings and I think your other boxes were 100% vermiculite but the 1st box shown in this video was some kind of mixture, perhaps sand and coco fiber with vermiculite??
Hey Dan big fan. Quick question or anyone that can answer or give opinion. I just made a 700gal pond 4x8x3 I have 1 res full grown can I add another or 2 res or not a good idea? Thanks!

Serious Question My turtle escaped from his enclosure And is now in our muddy pond We cannot catch him with a net and trapping has been unsuccessful is there any way to catch him that you know of? Thank you

hey Dan, or anyone really. I've made sure my basking area for my turtle is 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit and he still runs to the water after I introduces him to the basking area I've gave him time to discover but he doesn't want to. he is a hatchling painted turtle less than 4 months old, thank you

At temps around 82 or 83 you'll get a mix of males and females!
