Gregor Piatigorsky's composition was initially for cello and orchestra. Each of his variations was written with players and composers in mind (Casals, HIndemith and so on). He played under Furtwängler in Berlin. Obviously, this is a virtuous piece from the hand of one of the outstanding cellists from the first half of the last century. She did it splendidly, didn't she! [Side note: the reduced colours make the tawny wood of the instrument really stand out. We like that, too.] (Brahms also used Paganini's music for his opus 35. That composition, though, is much longer.)
Grisha's Variations on a Paganini Theme (based on Caprice No. 24) was composed in 1946 for cello and orchestra and was orchestrated by his longtime accompanist Ralph Berkowitz; it was later transcribed for cello and piano. Each of the fifteen variations whimsically portrays one of Piatigorsky's musician colleagues. Denis Brott, a student of Piatigorsky, identified them as: Casals, Hindemith, Garbousova, Morini, Salmond, Szigeti, Menuhin, Milstein, Kreisler, a self-portrait of Piatigorsky himself, Cassadó, Elman, Bolognini, Heifetz, and Horowitz.
This young lady is the most brilliant cellist of her age I have heard to date. There are many adult professionals who cannot tackle some of the works she plays. You go girl ; your future is assured.
Absolutely incredible! Congratulations on your amazing performance.Your tone is so powerful and beautiful and your bow control is fantastic.I wish my down bow staccato was as good as yours! I am always looking forward to your new videos.Thankyou :))💐
