    Today was my first lesson with Katie and it was awesome.
    Being a beginner guitarist (and being 64 years old...LOL) I was really apprehensive about taking online lessons through Skype, however, Katie did an excellent job.
    She was prompt and on time in contacting me.on Skype. She took her time to get to know me a little before we started.
    She asked me about my experience with the guitar and also what my personal goals were as we progressed through our lessons.
    By the time we actually started the lesson she made me feel very comfortable in what she was planning.
    She is one very fun and easy going instructor, plus she is one good guitarist and singer.
    I also wanted to share with everyone that prior to me signing up for the lesson package I had emailed her about what I was interested in learning and
    find out if she could teach what I was looking for. She promptly emailed me back and informed me about everything and that once I signed up she would be
    back in touch. The day I signed up and booked my first lesson she personally emailed me and thanked me for joining what she considers her music family and sent me 5 practice sheets
    that she used in the first lesson with me.
    Even though this is my first lesson I am truly impressed with her professionalism, friendliness, and encouragement that she has shown me today.
    If you are thinking of taking lessons I would highly recommend her.
    Thanks Katie

I've downloaded a metronome app and I feel a bit more assured to try practicing at a slow pace. I'm currently practicing finger-picking exercises on the guitar (from you), so I know using a metronome is important! Thanks. ❤️

    Great tutorial on using a metronome. I've been learning ukulele for six months now, and I've found it very interesting that coming from a drumming background, which in times past was almost considered as being a non musician, I've heard and read from a number of knowledgeable music teachers that RHYTHM is the trickiest element of learning music, above melody and harmony. I guess without a regular heartbeat, the music just goes all over the place, right? I really liked being a fly on the wall for part of that Skype lesson; you're a very kind and patient teacher. My personal challenge is having limited eyesight, so I have to get rather creative with written notation and tabs! Stay well, dear lady.

    Ok, here's my 2 cents worth... As an ex-piano tinkler, I still write on my paper under notes/rests/etc, esp for 1st time thru: 1 & 2 & 3 &... I also find closing my eyes, toe-tapping, beat-boxing the uke in tempo, becoming one with music, works for me. And you're gonna laugh, but after 1 of your reviews, I got the foot tam & I love it! Happy Trails 🙋‍♀️

      Justin is an excellent teacher, and I’ve learned so much from his videos. He is very good for absolute beginners because many teachers kind of treat people as if the are more advanced than they really are. My wife bought me a guitar when I was 36 for our anniversary. Now having just turned 40, I wonder why I didn’t do it when I was younger, but it has brought me so much joy that I’m glad I started exactly when I did. I’m no David Gilmour, nor do I ever expect to be, but when I’m playing a song and singing along I feel so proud of myself. Please keep up the awesome videos! You make so many of us happy!

    How do I set my metronome correctly? Thanks again.

  • @charlesallan6978
    @charlesallan6978 2 года назад

    Set the metronome to 60 BPM. Clap your hands on top of the pulses. It will be silent. It is not broken. You now have perfect time plus or minus 1 millisecond. Now do the same at 40 BPM.

    Not sure if you’ll respond since this is pretty late. I’ve been making tracks on GarageBand and only now have I decided to use a metronome. But it makes me wonder, I have to figure out a settled bpm before making a song then? Man this is hard.

  • @Violetacampuz
    @Violetacampuz 2 года назад +1

    My problem is tapping my foot when I start strumming 16th notes. Some one told me to tap it only on the 1,2,3,4 and that's hard for me to do. I tend to want to tap it with every beat I hear and I get too focused on that that I mess up on my strumming. Any tips?

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  2 года назад

      You’re not the only one that struggles with this, and you’re not alone. I would say slow the tempo down and count the 16th notes out loud while only tapping the downbeats (1,2,3,4). That way you won’t Em wear out your foot but still practice subdivisions. Slow is a good pace. Don’t put pressure on yourself to go fast. If it’s messing you up, feel free to slow down and work on what you need to work on. I hope that helps.
