WOW...this is how our music is in Puerto Rico...Reminds me of my grandpa so much..I did a DNA test and the canary islands is the main place in Spain some of my ancestors are from.
Just remember the original people of the canaries weren't the French. It was the guache. Then you got the berbera the Arabs . The Moors. But slavery and transportation from the canaries went right to PR . mayaguez where my GMA is from being one of them
@@jscribbl3 French? The canary islands were colonized by the spanish. The rest is true though i did have a good amount of north african blood in me due to the Guanches from the canary islands.
@@jscribbl3French ? Fuck are you talking about. You mean the Spanish who conquered the Canary Islands and mixed in with the native guan hes who were Berber not Arab. Also Spaniards have little Arab ancestry and it’s Berber (North African)

If you knew what I'm feeling right now. Many of my ancestors are from the Canary Island that moved to Puerto Rico. This is the kind of my music gravitated to. Not so much the salsa but this is what my family loved.
As you may know, Cuban Folk music is based on Canary music as many Canary's emigrated too Cuba. In fact, the accent and slang words are vary similar and most are exactly the same. A lot Cuban's of Spanish background can trace their blood line to the Canary islands.
Most Canary Islanders immigrated to the Caribbean and northern South America, when I traced my ancestry back to Spain I found that I had a lot of Canary Islanders, Andalusian and central Spaniards in my family, which is where most Spanish immigrants came from
Incredible. You can hear the influence this had on everything from the music in PR (where my dad is from, La Ciudad de Cidra to be specific) to mariachi music in Mexico. If you added a tuba and an accordion this would sound like mariachi.
A majority of Spaniards that settled in the new world where from the Canary Islands and Andalusia any Hispanic can trace at least part of their ancestry back to the Canary Islands and Andalusia as this is where most conquistadors came from.

Es que la leyenda obligatoria dice que no tenemos nada que ver, que los españoles somos muy malos, pero que, por suerte, "ya nos fuimos" (de América). Wow, I'm 48 years old and Puerto Rican. And this is exactly what we had listened from our ancestors. Amazing

Si, es verdad y una pena. En E.U. los Canarios y mas los Palmeros estamos desconocidos. Pero hay mucho intercambio tradicional con Venezuela y Cuba.
