    Smart move on the FelPro gaskets. For the readers, DO NOT use the Edelbrock gaskets. I installed my Pro Flo4 on my Bronco using the Edelbrock ones.... later that night a bunch of guys on the forums told me they leak and are garbage. 2 Failed O2 sensors later, i pulled it back off and used the FelPro's. No more leaking coolant into the exhaust ports. The Edelbrock gaskets split and leak almost immediately.

    I install the FITECH go street 400 on a 75 Bronco with a 351M making 300hp, I had all the same heating issues and controller fail and ecm fail which had to be sent back to FITECH. I solved the heat issue by venting the hood with a scoop. It lowered the engine bay temp by 35%.
    FITECH customer service was just horrible to deal with. I installed the same unit on a 44 GMC with a 350, same thing, hand held controller failed. In my restoration shop, I will be trying the Edelbrock and the FAST EFI systems before I waste anymore time and money with FITECH. Thanks

    I went with Holley Sniper TBI. The handheld unit is ok but I primarily turn with my laptop. I've been super impressed by the power and drivability compared to a Holley 650 vacuum secondary carb. I'm an Edelbrock guy but I wasn't ready to go full multi-port yet. All I did was pop off the carb and slap on the throttle body. Next on my list is an entry level vortech centrifugal supercharger. That should put me at the limit of my 650hp Sniper unit.

    I know this video is a few years old BUT I think edelbrock is hands down worth the money. With that unit, you get individual injectors for each cylinder which is also probably a little better on fuel. I personally like the individual injectors which is why I’m interested in looking to buy it. I’m actually looking to replace all of my 1991 suburban TBI with the edelbrock pro flow.

      @corvettefever360 3 года назад

      Not that Edelbrock is bad or anything, but Holley has power adders, whether Sniper, HP, Dominator, etc. The direct connection between handheld & ECU, so there is no wifi or connection issues, etc. No need to upgrade tabets, especially when they are continued to be used in mounting them inside the vehicle for monitoring purposes, or future adjustments. However the tablets are larger & somewhat better graphics.

    Back in my work days, the company I was with expanded into the US market. Our product was more exy than our competitors. But we answered the phone. I was amazed at how many of our customers had horror stories about being hung out to dry by previous suppliers after they bought the product. It's made me really cautious about buying stuff from US businesses. So it's really great to hear about your experiences with Edelbrock.

    Thanks for the video. I watched a few of your videos in August 2017 when I was installing my go Street 400 on my 66 Mercury Comet with a 289. I went from a two barrel single exhaust to a 4-barrel with dual exhaust to the fitech with a big radiator and electric cooling fan in about a six-month time frame. The biggest power booster was the fitech. I went from 10 MPG with the two barrel to 13 MPG with four-barrel and dual exhaust to 16 MPG with the fitech. I have been leaning it out over the last two weeks trying to improve my gas mileage. Today with the AFR at 16 to 1 for 3000 rpm cruise, I was at 16.5 MPG. My goal for the car is 20 MPG when I install an overdrive, so I think I'm on my way. It seems to pull the same MPG with or without the air conditioning on. I just set the 3000 RPM CRUISE AFR to 16.5:1 today - we'll see if it makes a difference. I'll drive this configuration until It breaks, and then its a three to four hundred horsepower crate motor and multi-port. Keep it up. I enjoy the videos.

    I have the Fitech Go 600 in Australia, and agree with everything you said. Ive been lucky "so far" and had no issues at all. I have Holley Fuel pressure reg, and Aeromotive intank pump and not using Fitech for timing or fans. The less the ECU has to control, the better in my opinion. MultiPort injection is way better (edelbrock) than the Fitech is. If i ever have problems with Fitech I will look at a standalone system, as Edelbrock dont make a kit for Cleveland V8 as yet. The ECU does need alot of air to keep it cool, particularly in summer. I have installed a hood vent to try and add more air into the engine bay.

    Thanks for the vid. It's really informative. The only criticism I would offer is that you compare the power of the units, yet you did a cam swap and didn't have the ability to retune the FITech. The Edelbrock was installed and tuned on the new cam.

      etheir way you look at it the edlebrock is still gonna be better. it has direct injection. with that much better distribution of the fuel your thottle response will be better cylinders wont burn unevenlly etc. I strongy dislike the holley sniper and the fi tech for the simple fact that their just like the tbi's gm introduced 33 years ago all they did was add 2 more barrels to it..

  • @blacklineindustries7602
    @blacklineindustries7602 5 лет назад +28

    Great video. One thing though - comparing TBI (whether it's FiTech or Holley) to port injection isn't a straight comparison. Yes, the Pro-Flo is more $$$ but it's an entirely different system from the FiTech and will perform much, much better. An EFI kit that includes an intake manifold, throttle body, injectors, rails and distributor that does sequential port injection is worth more than just a 4 bbl TBI system. The additional cost is easily justified by the additional driveability and performance you will get with real port injection. The real comparison is to compare Pro-Flo to any other sequential port injection kits. Pro-Flo is sub-$2000. All others are ~$3000. That's a $1000 difference!!

    First things first...love your videos! Second...thanks for your honest opinion of the two products, even though I feel it is not an apples to apples comparison. Third...I’m running the FiTech 400 HP with command center. I purchased it two years ago and installed it two weeks ago on my 1969 Ford F100 with 1971 351w. My handheld controller stopped working yesterday. It doesn’t work when plugged into the ECU or laptop...just black screen. I was able to complete my engine break in before the handheld stopped working. I’ve sent FiTech a message for tech support help and going to reach out to Summit (where I purchased it) and see if they are able to assist.

    Now that you have the FiTech off and no longer rely on it for your Bronco, you easily send it back to them. At this point, this would probably benefit them more than you. It may help them work out some of their issues. Regarding cost: I also take into consideration the withdrawal something takes out of the bank of frustration. $200 dollars difference is a small cost for the sake of one's sanity. Thanks for the video.

    So glad your channel popped up in my search for Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 info! I appreciate that your experience applies to any older classic ride, not just Broncos. I have a '70 C10 ( not a Chevy snob, I think Fords are bitchin" as well) and am starting down the same path with fuel injection. Already have a Boyd rear tank w/ internal FI pump installed and had debated on some of the other brands, like FI Tech for my SBC. The installation video and the follow up comparison have been excellent and have certainly cemented my decision to go with Edelbrock. Your video is refreshing, with the (sometimes ugly and pricey) problems out there for us all to see. No fluff, just practical help and advice. I wish you continued success on your project and your YT channel. Oh yeh, I subscribed too :-)

    My Pro Flo 4 works great after it's all warmed up, even in the summer. It must be warmed up for at least a minute before I'm allowed to put it in reverse. Even then, I have a 50/50 chance of stalling. Edelbrock told my installer they would have a firmware update in a month or two that would fix this problem. That was 8 months ago and nothing. Just get a Sniper. My neighbor loves his. Meanwhile, mine is like a box of chocolates...

They are equally useless in my experience. You did forget to mention one of the best differences in the user interface part though. 1) I've always enjoyed your videos and appreciate how you portray everything with humility, humor, and candor; 2) I'm on the same path, can't remember if I got fitech before of after you, but I'm considering post-Fitech options; 3) I don't think I have your patience with some of these negative comments. I guess some people have nothing better to do than to waste their time to take the time to tell you they think you're wasting their time. Kudos to you for sharing great videos for us bronco guys and for handling comments in poor taste with tact.
    Also, for those "just stick to carb" dudes, they might not realize that many of us bronco guys prefer EFI for off-road capability. Speaking from experience, having the motor and power components DIE in when you're on a steep incline/decline, off camber or in a precarious angle on the side of a cliff is not fun. If properly set up EFI has tremendous advantages over carb for avid off-roaders (which many bronco guys are).

    I am currently struggling with my Fitech after a year of dealing with it.
    After the first complete failure of the fuel command centre, to a complete reinstall including an in-tank pump and tank (provided my Fitech at cost due to the acknowledgement of the failed fuel command centre) it has been a challenge. Fortunately, this has been carried out by the shop who built and recommended the Fitech to me.
    After a few small glitches (a failed lifter and an intake leak) my truck is now running...but just running enough to take the truck for a drive (one hour round trip which, by the end it begins to lose performance enough to notice, perhaps due to ecu overheating due to location under the hood). The truck should boil the tires off the line but instead stutters until about 2500rpm before it smooths out. I have made some changes as per advice from others in the same boat with a little improvement, but still the issues remain (WOT from stop resulting in stuttering or sometimes die-out, engine going limp while coasting and other small glitches). Add to this the first handheld failing (screen kept sliding and altering settings on its own) and the second handheld felt like the toggle button broke the first time I used it and now doesn't feel quite right (but still works for now) and my confidence is slipping.
    I will say that, contrary to others who have shared their experience, that my support has been decent, but I had to reach higher up the chain to receive help (and got it). Unfortunately I am at the point where my confidence is considerably deteriorated and I am considering having the shop remove the system and go an alternate route (carb or Holley sniper) but I am hesitant to go efi again after this experience. :(

    I've got a 600HP Fitech Unit with a G-Surge that is essentially a paperweight. It's sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Worst purchase of my life. I'm not a "tuner," but I work with modern fuel injection on a daily basis, and I couldn't make the car lean out. The self tuning capabilites were non existent, and I had a hand held problem on the first day of using it. Screen wouldn't power up. Tech support acted like they hated their job and didn't want to be there, so once they sent me a new handheld, I didn't contact them again for help with how the car was running. I put some miles on it against my better judgement with it running so rich, and tuned on it a little, and was slowly making some minor progress, but it was too little, too late. My engine was still fresh, and inevitably I washed the rings down. Now I'm fixing to pull the engine and throw in another set of rings due to oil consumption.

    I have been watching all your videos and learning because i purchased the dual 1200hp Fitech setup and am trying to run them on my 6-71 blown 502 bbc....So far it has been an absolute NIGHTMARE...Piss Poor customer service,very difficult to navigate...I have basically resorted to taking it to a dyno shop and see if they can get it tuned properly...because of lack of customer service....GOD I HOPE I DIDN'T BLOW 2K....

    The Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 uses a single plane manifold that shifts your torque up to a higher RPM. If this is what you want, then no problem. But if not stay with the dual-plane manifold and a throttle body EFI or carburetor. For some reason Edelbrock does not offer port fuel injection on a dual plane manifold. But you can drill eight holes in a dual plane manifold to make one. And yes, Edelbrock intake gaskets do leak. Ask me how I know. 😑 The best 302-351W intake gaskets I have found are from Price Motor Sports. They have never leaked in 7 years of use.

    I have the Fi-Tech on my 454 Chevelle. I just ordered the Edlebrock Pro-Flo a few days ago. My Fi-Tech 800 shorts out injectors so often I have resorted to keeping spare injectors and the tools I need to do a roadside repair in the glove box. It is not a hard repair, but the car stops with no warning. Last time I was on the I-80 freeway just outside Sacramento where people were driving like maniacs. Terrifying and awful. When the Fi-Tech is running, it runs good, it is superior to my old carb(s... went through a few of those), but it is not dependable. It turned my Chevelle into a 'Trailer Queen."

    I bought a fi-tec for a 390 ford. Nothing but junk in my opinion! When I called support they wanted me to test parts with tools only a auto mechanic would own. They are not for do it yourselfer's such as myself. After 8 months of try to get it to run, it now sits on a shelf in my shop. (running carb again) I'm willing to try the Edelbrock. Thanks for the Vid!

    3rd time I watched this and it's definitely making me want to sell my $300 rebuilt quadrajet that I have yet to get running right. I have an 83 Chevy k10 pickup and I've been fighting an off idle stumble now for 5 months. I'm by no means a carburetor expert either although I'm old enough that I was in my 20s when carbs went wayside to efi. I'm just a car guy and I'm capable of doing just about anything on a sbc even though it takes me awhile because of many sit down breaks. I'm just a little intimidated by the installation because I'm terrible with wiring and understanding wiring issues. Man! I wish that you could come up here to PA and help me do this lol. I've been a subscriber of your videos for sometime now and look forward to them.

    Interesting video . But they are 2 completely different ways of doing EFI . So it hard to compare them to each other apart from just how they drive . The carb type EFI is good if can't get a intake type EFI for your engine

    I've watched a few of your videos and subscribed. One thing that I noticed you haven't addressed and need to, is the current going through your vehicle is regards to "True Voltage". I put a FiTech on my 69 Failane w/302 and one of the early problems was that it ran, at times. rough but also showed signs of smooth running. I got into computers early on and discovered one of the major problems with PCs was the power supply. A PC electrical system designed on 12 volts needs to have a true 12 volts in this digital age. With that thought, I ran voltage tests on my electrical system and was getting readings of 11.2 -11.4 volts. I had a NAPA stock alternator on the car which develops a 35 AMP charge. I replaced it with a 150 AMP charge alternator and a buttload of problems with the EFI disappeared immediately. This can very easily be your problems with the hand helds and the fuel pumps. So far I have had neither. I will also tell you that my 302 was a fresh build and the new cam compliments the EFI. The car is literally "new" or re-furbished completely. The only problem I am now having is that I am getting some minor back firing when I let off the pedal or stomp it. I'm either running wet or my mechanical advance is not working, is what I'm thinking. Outside of that my car runs great. I just started my 69 Mach 1 project and I am putting a 429 in it and strongly considering a fuel rail EFI system in it but that project is at least 12 months out from completion. "Film @ 11:00"!

    Fitech customer service is amazing. I have had nothing but hot soak problems with my 600 from day one. On hot days between 90 and 100 degrees I go into a store I come back out it will not start. I put ice on the front of the fitech where the computer is located it will start within 2 minutes. The other way to make sure it ran when I got out of the store is to open the hood before I go in so the heat can escape then of course it would start right up. I got so tired of that they replaced it twice. Finally they sent me one number three and they agreed to let me take the computer out of the throttle body on top of the engine and relocate the computer inside the car I mounted it on my air conditioner housing under the dash. It took a lot of spicing soldering and shrink wrap but I got it done. Now it starts and runs no matter how hot it gets under the hood. The other serious problem is the fuel pump the brushes wear out prematurely and the bearings start screaming in it and I replace fuel pumps almost monthly. The last fuel pump they sent me ran less than a week and it started sputtering yesterday one Me 1 mile from my home. The engine died in my driveway and I had to put a 4in chunk of ice on the fuel pump for 5 minutes it started right up I parked it in the garage and I will never use another fitech fuel pump again. I took my last fuel pump apart last week the brushes were shot and the veins that move the fuel we're out of shape the fuel filter was full of fuel pump shavings. I have not tried the fuel Command Center and probably won't.

    Ive just swapped out my 18 month old FiTech.. And fitted the Holley Sniper.. In 18 months with FiTech.. Ive had 7 weeks of no FiTech as it was broken out of the box and it took them 7 weeks to get me a replacement. Ive had 2 new injectors under warranty.. Replaced the FiTech pump as it was so noisy.. Had 2 handhelds.. And they are junk!! Had issues with the FiTech constantly. Despite messing with settings it would regularly cut out in traffic. I swapped it for a Sniper.. Changed nothing else.. And wow.. Its like a totally different truck.. I'm telling everyone.. Dont waste your money with the FiTech.. Its junk!

    So, I have a 5.0 swapped ranger, has oem explorer EFI, and I was part of a group of v8 Ranger guys, many ran aftermarket efi on older carb 302's, of that group, almost none that used FITech had any luck. They had constant problems. And ended up selling their kit for super cheap.. could be the engine bay heat, and fuel delivery issues.. soo.. take my advice, use factory style efi, or not the fitech.. the holley, edelbrock, or higher end stuff that plugs into an sct/laptop tuner that works.. soo..
