Thanks Troy - I've been busy trying to finish stuff for the state competition this weekend, I've got a few other videos in the bag I'll share shortly. cheers
I've been watching your videos whenever I have a break Sean, they have been so helpful in trying to work out what to do - also had some great help from Matthew Lawlor too - been a blast! And there's nothing better than an F-14 inflight - except two of them! Cheers chris
I made a diorama with a Tomcat about 27 years ago, entered a competition at my local hobby store. Came third, the judge from IPMS thought it was to dirty and spotty. He said they got cleaned everyday in the hangar of the aircraft carrier. 😂 When I was building the tomcat, I read an article about the tomcat in Tamiya model magazine called Dirty fighting that was about how dirty and spotty the tomcat got. I make mycket military service as a helicopter mechanic, we almost never washed the copters, and took the closest color we could find for touch upp.
Outstanding Chris, I've been checking each day to make sure I haven't missed this episode Because the F-14 has such an unusual look and I could not imagine how to begin obtaining it. " knock on wood ", for the contest, I'd say you really captured it. I had forgotten the two were different scales, that is going to add an incredible depth of field to the model diorama. And Ms. Penny helped :-). One follow up that might help is what kind of whiskey and how many shots were included in the process, neat or with ice, . Seriously these two are epic I can only imagine how spectacular the rest of entries are coming along. Looks chilly down under with long sleeves Cheers from the colonies Bob
12 year old Scotch of course - got a bottle with my insurance payout! Yeah its a little cool here but not enough - going to NZ for a holiday soon so that will be proper cold!
Hi bro one thing you might want to have a little experiment with use a test part to do mottling with a very matt clear and a semi gloss clear of over the cammo... I think you will like the effect... Different surface finish can be done by lightly rubbing a matt finish with a polishing compound to simulate a worn matt finish
Looking good Chris, looking forward to seeing them next weekend, How many builds are you entering? I ended up with 11, and I think maybe only 1 of those is what I planned to enter. The rest are new kits that came along this year, or other builds I liked
Gday Grant! 11 is a great number - looking forward to those! Currently I've got only six I think including these two Tomcats, was hoping to do 10, but thats not likely now...see you this weekend!
Wow Chris that is amazing. I've obviously got a lot of studying to do before I pick up again the 1/72 Airfix F14 I started in about '76 and didn't get very far. You are both inspiring and daunting (could I ever do it that well?). I look forward to your next episode. Where did you get the stencils, they look very useful.
Thanks Emma - the stencils are available from BNA, not hard to find - thanks for the kind words, I just try to follow guys like Sean at Primed Model Works and Jim's Models, they know that they are doing!
That's a lot of paint especially on the 1/32. I love my GSI creos PS-290. Been meaning to get a 289 for the 0.3mm needle. My Sparmax Max3 is good but the cup is not big enough.
Thanks Andrew - I think about 6 or 7 this year, depends on how late I can stay up for the next few nights and finish a few more....F-35 is calling me to get those contrails up!
I hope so - although I just got in trouble again for staying up too late last night trying to finish another kit! I've only got a few Im taking this year, but hopefully some nice displays, nothing for medal contention of course!
My gosh Becker you’re making me feel like grabbing an F-14 kit out of my stash. But 1/48 or 1/32? Easy build or the more imposing but more complicated big bird? 😅
Go 1/48 every time - although I have all the 1/32 kits, I have many many Tamiya 1/48's because they are that good...or try the new GWH 1/72s, which are probably even better!
Not out of the box unfortunately, takes a bit of effort to get the parts to fit. I will be developing some 3D printed solutions later this year/earlier this year, as I have many more F-14s to do inflight...@@ronaldbyrne3320
Yeah they swapped them around all the time in editing and on set apparently, there were so many "Iceman/Maverick" jets its hard to get the exact reference....
And people say gray is boring. I think it can be absolutely fantastic and you did a fabulous job with the two brothers.
Nice. Personaly, I would move the big Iceman when painting the horizontal stabs of the small Iceman, overspray
I cringed when I saw that. Too many times I have moved the airbrush too quick and paint spilled all over my model
The visual texture you've worked into the paint on those is spectacular. Certainly given me inspiration
Good to see your back! We need more becker vids, been too long between drinks. Glad you're feeling better etc

Great technique. Thanks for sharing your expirence. I will definitely incorporate into my future efforts.
They look fantastic. Can't wait to see the finished article.
Thanks - me either, they're taking up a lot of space on the work bench right now!
The Tomcats are looking great Chris. Loving this build series.
Thanks mate - its been a blast - nearly done!
Nice work Chris, I like your painting of kits, they always turn out great.
Thanks 👍
Vary cool paint job and method! Looks awesome

Stunning work my friend!
Thanks mate!
Looks excellent,,, good to see you back Chris
Thanks mate!
Love love love it mate, can't wait to see them.. Hope it's all done by QMHE next week , no pressure😂.. good luck brother....
No pressure at all - ha! Thanks - the Revell one is definitely not in contention for a medal, so many flaws...
Get well for more good work !
I'm trying thanks!
Very nice work bro
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome work! These paint schemes are so much fun aren’t they.

I have a theory that IPMS has stopped more modellers than it has encouraged, but that's the cynic in me....

Experiment with different clear coats... Sorry the new YT update is missing out parts of msgs
Oh I'll be trying that for sure

I used a whole bottle of SMS Clear Gloss to do the final gloss coats on both of them! And nearly a whole bottle of MRP Dove Grey as the undercoat...
One thing I'll have to keep in mind when I eventually take on the Trumpy. These videos will definitely help me out with it.
Paint, shmaint, what I want to know is how much whiskey was required??😆 Looking great Chris, how many birds will be in the Becker squadron at QMHE?
Thanks Andrew - I think about 6 or 7 this year, depends on how late I can stay up for the next few nights and finish a few more....F-35 is calling me to get those contrails up!

@@beckersmodels Hi Chris. Can the Tamiya 1/48 Tomcats be built in wheels-up mode? Sorry if this has been answered before.

@@beckersmodels looking forward to your 3D printed solutions. The F-14 looks best when modelled in flight. 😍
I hope your mother in law doesn’t watch this video, Chris! 😂
🤭 Well let's keep it between you and me then!!!
16:28 is Mavericks Tomcat due to the red helmets not Yellow like Iceman
