    If you ever buy one of these get the ebonite version. not much difference in price but elegant as an elephant on stilettoes dancing the waltz in the rain in summer...

    I have three Sailor KoPs, including this fantastic clear demo pen with a Broad nib. It’s the best transparent demonstrator I’ve ever seen or owned. The quality resin is almost flawlessly clear. I only wish the inner cap seal was also the same clear material as the rest of the pen instead of the cloudy , semi-transparent piece. Sailor’s flagship KoP deserved a bigger, better converter with more ink capacity. The wide, wet B nib on my pen means that I run out of ink in a hurry. But the metal extension of the section inside the barrel does have a sort of ink viewing slits on either side that is a nice touch.
    The large, beautiful 21k nib on the KoP is absolutely sublime and truly one of a kind. The KoP’s prices have increased in Japan, too. But prices in N. America are quite ridiculous, as usual.
    Edit: The King of Pen is, arguably, quite aptly named.

      Agree on the clear cap. 👍Also, Sailor should provide a converter having a metal knob.👏 I don't think they can make a bigger converter unless they come up with something resembling Pilot's CON-70 (with a metal push button😉); but if you search the web, you can find 3D printed cartridges that hold twice the amount of ink of a regular Sailor cartridge and fit flawlessly in the KOP.

    A very good way to see if your pen is skipping or not (is it your fault or pen's) is to ONCE hold the pen in right position ..- close your eyes and write a sentence. The result would be infront of you when you open your eyes. Try it! Works!

    I have one of the original King of Pen from many years ago. Mine has an ebonite body. When I bought it, I was surprised at the size of the body and that size of the nib! It is a pen that will be forever in my collection.
    Mine is the second year of release and has no trim. It was also half the price than current MSRP.

      I have two ebonite KoPs. They don’t have cap bands and trims. Fabulous pens, mainly but not only because of the nib.

    Finally bit the proverbial bullet and got a Sailor Ebonite KoP with gold trim ,(so it has the bi-color nib) about a year ago. I feel very lucky to have it. Awesome writing experience that I enjoy every time I pick it up.
    The other Sailor ebonite pen that interests me is the Sailor Ebonite Sculpture in Yakoh design. So beautiful!

    Note: I have a KOP that I got fairly cheaply; around $456 for the 1911 style. BUT they range in price from about $880 to more than $7,000 depending on model, material, and decoration. "Plain" ones are the least expensive. They all have a large 21K nib.
    Also, a Japanese company called Wancher often does collaborations with Sailor. Wancher makes many urushi-style pens, some of them extremely elegant.
    I am not fond of demonstrator pens; I consider them inelegant, destructive of the beauty and mystique of well designed and engineered pens.

    1:28 No-one should be ordering either Sailor, Pilot or Platinum from western retailers. Absolute rip-off. I ordered my ProFit (1911) KoP direct from Japan for $580 incl delivery.

    I really want to purchase a King of Pen, but the available colors are ugly and not my thing. Sailor has so many pretty colored pens, but not in the King of Pen. I want a pretty, softer colored KoP, and I would also like it to be called Queen of Pen... just saying. I mean, the world had had Queen Elizabeth for a gazzilian years... we need a pretty Sailor Queen of Pen. Come on, Sailor, cough it up!

    Wow. A collection of ten. I do see why it would make sense; although, at this point, I'm doing well to gift a pen from my collection each time I get another. The only Sailor I have is a ProGear Realo, currently inked with Iroshizuku Yama-budo. I'm delighted with it. I suspect that if I were ever to get a pen in the league of KOP, I would really save, for some years, and get a Namiki Emperor, urushi & maki-e, to be a patron of the arts . . . and write with it. Nice review. Thanks to Emy for the loan so you could review it, and thanks to you too!

    I have the 1911L Rhodium demonstrator that looks just like this one. I don't think the jump in price is ever going to be worth it for me to go to KOP because for 4 times the price, you are certainly not getting four times the pen. It's the same quandary I suppose in moving from a Custom 823 to an Urushi or a Pelikan 600 to the 800 or 1000...it's diminishing returns. I just would never get past all the stuff I could get (inks and papers for instance) for the same price as this other pen that's a little wider with a slightly bigger nib. In the end these are status symbols only.

    Just bought the Sunset Over the Ocean King of Pens (that I’ve wanted for a very long time). I got it on sale for $663 at Pen Boutique. Best price I’ve ever seen for this pen. It wasn’t in the budget, but, well, you know!

    Nice to see all the options tho.

    I got mine for around $600 and feel it still is overpriced. It's colored plastic with an amazing nib which I do love. The converter doesn't carry much ink and again, it's a plastic non substantial body. I would rather have a Montblanc or Pelikan for that price. Much more substantial pens with amazing nibs.

    So King of Pen and Pelikan M1000 are about the same price. Which one would any of you fine pen people pick?

  • @ekder782
    @ekder782 Год назад

    To be honest, for a normal resin version of the KOP, the price is a bit much, and there is a faint molding seam on the threads near the grip section that for the price, I would rather it not have. The mold line is more noticeable on the regular Pro Gear as it extends beyond the threads.
    I do own two Pro Gear Sakura Nagare and a Pro Gear KOP Sakura Nagare that I purchased from Japan for around $300, $500 and $650 USD respectively. I also have the exact same experience as you do, with the Pro Gear H-M nibs being more stiff, and the KOP M nib being slighly bouncy. I find both nibs very enjoyable to write with.

    • @wachinstuf
      @wachinstuf Год назад +4

      Nib is huge and 21K which is above most if not all other competitors. That’s gonna be a lot of cost right there. Plus they use a lot of metal on the inside as you can see, which takes machining effort to do. Also, the plastic material is thicker than competitors too. Reality is all pens in this price range are overpriced to some degree
