I’ve already made one, I just needed motivation to start my mini comic series rift zombies. It’s literally time travelling zombies. It’s so stupid I love it
Thanks. I have too many ideas to do in traditional full scale publishing and I don't know if my art is up to it. Minicomics would be a great way to try them out.
i love the dust jacket you made for young and the dead. i like the idea that how mini comics make one more experimental, not only with content but how you are going to present the content.
That's a good question, Sadly a lot of times there isn't a lot of money in mini comics, however I think there is an opportunity to market them as limited edition hand-created works of art and charge a premium for the amount of effort that goes into creating them. If you want to do this successfully you might build up interest in your mini's, then run a pre-order for a limited run and a drop date, once they are gone , they are gone and charge more. You could be quite successful.
So glad I found this cool video! I've listened to it several times over each time I sit down to work on my comic. Something about your videos reminds me of old shows from the 90s lol. And your enthusiasm is so contagious!
I’m only in middle school and I created a 5 paged one! It was a lot of fun and this video really helped me get ideas (I ended up working with a cartoon Dino) these artists are very good and hope to be this advanced someday! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for all the great ideas. Currently working on 2 comics and the idea of doing a quick, small mini comic to give me an idea of what I can do in what sort of time, is a great idea. Also I like the idea of the little add ons and cool touches that can be added to the minis.
That sounds like an awesome plan. I think one of the biggest mistakes cartoonists make is to start off with an overly ambitious project. I think it's better to start small and build on that experience.
Great video Scott, quite the sales pitch! Mini comics are a cool way to manage the size of the project. You've even got me thinking of trying a comic again damn you. :P
@@ScottSerkland Just finished page 5, almost there :) I'm actually uploading them as a webcomic, but having a concrete nad reachable goal like that really helps with motivation!
I've made like one finished comic and it's like 4 pages long so I'm going to scan it in along with another one I made and print that so it's like a two in one minicomic.
Ha Ha, I'm willing to accept that responsibility, anything to get more mini comics out in the world. although I would be surprise if your patrons don't end up loving it.
For mini comics I use 8 1/2" X 11" folded then I trim them to give them a full bleed look. I make a dust cover also 8 1/2 " X 11" folded without a bleed so the finished product is 11 1/2" X 11" folded.
It really depends on how good a digital artist you are. There are artist out there who can make digital inking look indistinguishable from traditional. I say use whatever tools you are most comfortable with.
Natalie J At first I thought you put $500 and I was like "wow". But whatever you're earning the important thing is your're making them and spreading the word about mini comics.
I'm currently working on a mini comic about an archeologist trapped in Egypt which is a parody of all archeology tropes 'cause I'm an ancient history student lol
lol how many takes did you have to do to pop up at the beginning without laughing? I legit laughed and had to rewatch it several times. Didn't watch the rest of the video though. But I'm sure it was great!
I love to make homemade comics so much that I can make a new machine mini comics about bluegrass music with Raul area animals and history of each instrument used in bluegrass and old time mountain music and fiddle tunes it's a Looney tunes kind of style like Hanna barara cartoon style thank you Ms.tyler jones
That's great example of how diverse the subject matter in comic can be. A lot of people may say "I don't like comics" when in reality they are saying is "I don't like super heroes" because they think that's all comics can be. Comics can be as diverse as prose, but you rarely get people saying " I don't like books" A bluegrass fan may think they don't like comics but maybe they just haven't discovered your comic.
When you make many dollars let me know how. I’m still trying to crack that formula. In my experience your more likely to make “mini” dollars. But they’re a joy to create.
Now I want to make some more minicomics! I've only made one so far and it was a lot of fun.
Yes! It's working. More mini comics!
I’ve already made one, I just needed motivation to start my mini comic series rift zombies. It’s literally time travelling zombies. It’s so stupid I love it
That sounds like an awesome premise to me!
Thanks. I have too many ideas to do in traditional full scale publishing and I don't know if my art is up to it. Minicomics would be a great way to try them out.
Absolutely, that sounds like a great idea.
Cool video! I was working on a mini-comic while watching and it got me extra jazzed about doing it. Thanks
You don't know how happy I am to hear that! That's Awesome!
Same
Rad vid! Let's talk about the Dumptruck. I want to do it again, but I need to figure out if I have time. I love me some mini-comics!
Thanks! Same here! Let's discuss.
i love the dust jacket you made for young and the dead. i like the idea that how mini comics make one more experimental, not only with content but how you are going to present the content.
Thanks! I had a lot of fun designing those mini comics.
Is there any money in mini comics/ashcan? Or are they just fliers/pamphlets to promote your work?

Great video! You can really go the extra mile with mini comics as you showed! I'm considering more so now to do a mini comic. :)
Mini comics have been a great experience for me. You should try one.
I'm going to make a minicomic for my Patrons this year and their suffering will be ENTIRELY your fault! Your enthusiasm for them is very infectious XD
Ha Ha, I'm willing to accept that responsibility, anything to get more mini comics out in the world. although I would be surprise if your patrons don't end up loving it.
LOVE the way you just popped up at the start lol! Great vid!
Jesse Granat Yeah, I get a little excited when I talk about mini comics.
I want to make mini comics how do i draw sightlines like same regular comic create my characters or use public domain possibility
It’s really up to you. There is no right or wrong way to make a mini comic.
@@ScottSerkland thank you for those wise words important cet
Now i feel like doing a mini comic. Guess im gna start.
You definitely should!
What sizes of paper do you use for mini comics?

Ok Thanks! Do you hand draw your pictures and then scan them I'm or do you draw digitally?
Typically, I pencil and ink by hand and do colors and lettering digital, but I'm looking to do more of the penciling digitally as well.
Serkworks Art Labs Thank you for your feedback. Does using art digitally look different because I'm considering that option.
It really depends on how good a digital artist you are. There are artist out there who can make digital inking look indistinguishable from traditional. I say use whatever tools you are most comfortable with.
Word! Mini comics are great!
Joshua Kemble couldn't agree more.
I made 50 mini comic books and I got 50 dollars
Natalie J At first I thought you put $500 and I was like "wow". But whatever you're earning the important thing is your're making them and spreading the word about mini comics.
That’s way-inspiring! Thanks for the cool show.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's so weird how he doesn't look at the camera but himself on the screen XD
I never noticed that. I’ll have to work on that.
Im working on something I think your really gonna want to see. I’ll keep you posted -Ryan/Marchofthebullcomics

Yay! Holly Brown! Make sure you guys to check out her RUclips Channel!
Holly's great! So prolific. I wish I was so on top of things when I was her age.
Thanks for sharing your passion with this great video
You’re welcome. Happy to hear you liked the video.
Scott I think as a team of creators of mini comics I think we should make mini comic dump truck
That would be cool, but I know form the problems that Kevin had with the original. it's really hard for most people to deliver.
Mini comics are the best
I can’t argue with that.
lol how many takes did you have to do to pop up at the beginning without laughing? I legit laughed and had to rewatch it several times. Didn't watch the rest of the video though. But I'm sure it was great!
All one take! It doesn't always go that smoothly, but one in a while you nail it.
I gotta get in on this
You totally should!

Thanks Scot!
I'm starting a new mini comic series
Awesome Amanda! Good Luck!
I just started making mini comics to get customers for my regular comics

Great video Scott!
Thanks Peter!
Mm-hmm, gonna try this
You definitely should!
I have already made many mini comics
Awesome! There can never be too many mini comics!
I see Ocho back there.
You can't have an episode about mini comics without representing Arizona's longest running mini comic! Are you an Ocho fan?
I have seen his mini-comic on Kickstarter. I am going to throw some change at it.
I've made 26
Nice. I think you have me beat!
