while interesting , it would ruin the fight flow , they'd need to slow the enemies A LOT to give you time to react since going from just pressing a button combination to the delay of you thinking what to cast and doing the motion would take a lot longer

I second this. Love the last part of this comment because listening to these guys feel like your ol buddies from school who rented a game over the weekend and tells you all about it.
I've played a few hours of it and so far I'm really enjoying it. The story and characters are interesting. The combat is a little lacking but it's still fun however, they should have added a little more variety with the combat options, like being able to set up traps, summon spirits to help you fight, stun or freeze enemies temporarily. It feels like we're playing as an onmyoji so I kind of wish there were more onmyoji like abilities.
I like that they are very honest, if it's bad they focus on it but they highlight some of the good. While good games that do have flaws, they make it known which is good too. I just appreciate them for it lol
I feel like Jake is always more positive than he maybe he should, if he says a game is perfect then I'll take it as a good, if he says good then it's mediocre and so on. Like for this game he focuses a lot more than he usually would on criticisms so I'm thinking this game might just be complete shit.
I just think it's cool that this game exists. We knew next to nothing about Ghostwire in the year or so leading up to it's release. Not too many games have this level of mystique nowadays.
I love this game, the lore is great, I like the gameplay, the enemies can get repetitive, but that's the same for most games, how many different types of enemies can you have in a game. I am obsessed with this game, and I love the intereraction with the 2 main characters.
I'm really enjoying the early access so far. I can see how the combat might start to feel same old same old, but I have definitely enjoyed the world and story so far!

As a horror digital illustrator, I find this game to be super intriguing!!!!! Tho the combat could've used more Doom Eternal ideas. Big fan of Tango! They deserve more support for trying out new things and embracing new IPs!!! Kudos to them!

I remember watching the first trailer for this game and it looked so intriguing. It looks like they built such an awesome world and atmosphere here I wish the gameplay looked a bit more interesting
I'm here for the open world and Japanese horror. It also sounds like a game where I can play as much or as little as I want every day and that's a huge plus for me.
For any interested in the way the main character does combat within the game and would like to know more, his combat style seems to heavily mirror historical (and admittedly fantastical) depictions of what's called Onmyōdō, or the art of the Onmyōji. For a very basic explanation, Onmyōji were practitioners of spiritual arts and divination commonly tasked with excising Youkai and the spirits of those unable to pass on from this plane of existence to the next.
Ahhh so that must be similar or the same magic that is used in Nioh games, which it simply just calls Omnyo. When you cast a spell your character does similar hand motions, which I believe is the sword hand mudra. Funny thing is in real ritualistic magick the same mudras are frequently used
@@joshrakestraw3319 Yes, Onmyo is a real thing (though whether or not it actually works as claimed is another matter, hah), and the hand signs are taken directly from historical origins.
Im not a fan of first person games, but this has piqued my interest enough that I'll probably try it out in the future once the price drops. The hand magic animations as well as the overall art style look cool.
@@MasterLoda I just checked online, and it is timed exclusivity, on march 25 2023 the game will be available on xbox and most likely on gamepass since it is published by bethesda. Pretty much the same thing as deathloop.
Enemies do have ranged attacks, they throw stuff they find laying around towards you, so you can't really spam attack from afar for more than 6 seconds or so.

I've been playing the early access and I feel like this game does more rights than wrong. The combat to me feels a little bland but I'm hoping it gets better but the world design with a mix of Japanese myths just makes this a really beautiful game and the story and the characters has me hooked.

I have a sony tv too, you dont need hdmi 2.1 for a series s, its never gonna need the bandwith 4k120 requires since it never reaches those resolutions/framerate.
I really love the style and art direction this took. The gameplay overall from what this video shows doesn't wow me but looks like it gives a lot of cool visuals that I wouldn't mind experiencing!

I am very much looking forward to this game, have been since it got announced. I've been pleased to hear Tango did their thing with some cool and spooky environmental design, that's something I loved a lot in their older games. Also as someone who is very into Shinto mythology and lore it's just cool to see a game that's gonna dive into that world a bit. I'll take a "good not great" game over a bad and broken one any day
5 hours in and absolutely loving the game so far. Love the Tokyo open world and the side quests I’ve done so far are engaging and interesting. Nothing to big (yet, still early so things could change up later) but really enjoyable. Not able to play again before the weekend but can’t wait to dive into it again this weekend

I want to like this game, thematically it's the shit and looks so creative.. but its looks a bit repetitive and simple for me.. and combat is like a must-enjoy for me, vs exploration. if the combat is hard or at least fun or varied enough, then I can enjoy the simple little fetch quests and exploration more, as it's a nice breather. but I can't if that's the whole game. I really hope you enjoy the rest of the game, seems like u already are :)
Honestly to me, I like that you don't say whether or not you hate or like a game straight up. Even really bad games have some enjoyable things to them that make it hard to decide the thoughts on them. The way you put out your thoughts on good and bad while still not sugar coating anything is super helpful when actually determining if I'll enjoy a specific game based on my own tastes.

I may actually buy this. I absolutely love the concept of the combat. All these like “chi” Doctor Strange style spell casting looks so damn addictive and the environments and atmosphere sounds right up my alley

Kinda reminds me of Infamous with the sorta side missions of restoring power to areas of the city to advance the story, exploring to find orbs that improve your powers, and to some extent the combat as well. Really liked that and the sequels always improved, so this has my interest. And congrats on 7 millions subscribers! Been watching for at least a few years and these milestones are awesome.

Playing it from PS plus now. Really fun game and really well done. The only thing that sucks is they should have made different attacks work better against certain enemies, seems like an easy miss on their part. Cool world, and super informative of Japanese culture. Highly recommend it
I don’t have a PS5 yet but when I do get one I’m getting this game first. I know I’ll like it. Also, I think it’s great when game studios try to do something new (no matter what the case) even if it doesn’t always stick the landing.
I will always purchase a Tango Games product. This is a game that definitely caught my attention causing me to pre ordered it, which I do not like doing. Congrats on the 7 Mil, I'm expecting this to focus more on the lore, on Japanese history, culture and Urban Legends with lots of cool things to find and learn about, I've already Pre-Ordered this and intend to play this on my channel (still trying to get it to be self sustaining and to be my only job, so still having to work around another job at the moment and still trying to grow my audience), really looking forward to playing this and seeing what it has to offer
The evil with-in 1 is so much better than evil with-in 2 which bummed me out because I loved the first game and it's creativity I just wanted to see the gameplay mechanics improve and combat and stuff but they decided to go with that open world idea and I don't think they delivered at all. The only good parts were the more focused moments of the 2nd game but I think the first game just had better vibe, creativity, structure, characters, they just needed something's improved. I hope we get more 3rd person horror games like that. Psychological twistedness macabre dark subject matter and puzzles, etc.
Man I absolutely loved evil within 2. And the semi open world parts were great and reminded me so much of being back in silent hill but with lots of actual interesting side stuff to do. The main villan in the beginning was also great, I just wish they used him throughout the whole game up until Sebastiáns wife because that fire dude was not set up great at all.
clockwork orange, I found Father Theodore himself to be an interesting antagonist, but wasn’t as keen on the dungeon, molten lava type area he created because it felt so empty. As he was a communal narcissist I’d have loved his mutated world to contain more tricks and smoke ‘n’ mirror type situations. We only really get this when Sebastian is talking to an illusion of his daughter and his boss sequence. I’d have loved there to be way more puzzles in general during his section. I’m a huge fan of TEW in general though, this was the only section that dragged a little.
After listening to Jake's commentary, I can't help but get the feeling that everyone is going to compare every game to elden ring. It just seems like everyone is expecting the same level of gameplay when they pick up a new game so it's going to be one of those things where elden ring is the benchmark for having a good game or having an exquisite game.
@Worst Case Scenario my only complaint with the game is the fact that it was never optimized for PC or Xbox gameplay. The game has a memory pool problem which creates the screen stutter that most people experience and the reason for that is because the game was optimized for the memory pool allocation for the PS5 versus a PC or Xbox setup. If they are able to fix that problem and get rid of that screen stutter than I would full hardly agree that the game is game of the year.
I played elden ring up to that boss Misomething, where you use an item to chain him down. Gameplay is just an evolution of Dark Souls 3 with some Sekiro thrown in, I really don't understand the goty claims. I thought Sekiro was way more fun
Not really. People tried to compare elden ring to horizon forbidden west and I don't think that's appropriate. Horizons main attraction is it's incredible story and it's well written and fleshed out characters. There's not a single dark souls game that really has any of that. It's like trying to compare final fantasy to Tetris. It's two very different games with two very different focuses.
Honestly stoked for this game. I'm a game dev myself, I feel like I owe it to myself to play this. I was enthralled from the first trailer I saw. The art is insane, the fx are nuts and the aesthetic is off the hook. Defiantly on board for this one. Pre order is already in.
God the gaming community is so damn annoying sometimes. If he wants to spend his money on the game, then so be it. Why is it any business of yours on what other people do with their money? As long as he enjoys the game that’s all that matters. I swear people can’t have an opinion anymore without someone bitching because they don’t want to buy the game.
Hey Jake, I dunno if I'm on the 'fence' like you've mentioned you are. yes it can get repetitive, I'm not expecting the side quests to be like the Witcher 3 but I'm loving it mostly case of the exploration , playing it on PC and i'd definitely advise people go with a controller for the unique experience The sign weaving is amazing, the graphic is what you can expect from a Bethesda and the creators of Evil Within , the gameplay is 50-50. I just wish they would accentuate more on the horror and by that i was expecting more horrifying monsters like Ju-on - vengeful ghost like in the Grudge or Samara from Ringu.
This game isn’t for everyone, but for the ones who’d enjoy it, you’ll really enjoy it - especially with the PlayStation 5 controller. It’s paced and plays out very similarly to how an anime like Parasyte or Tokyo Ghoul would, and it helps to keep you hooked and having fun, especially if something like that sounds appealing to you. Not to mention it has some insanely unique gameplay, so you’ll feel as if you’re playing something fresh and brand new. If you’re into Japanese folklore, magic and Bethesda games, give this one a go. I’m confident you’ll enjoy it. Just keep your expectations in check and don’t expect a slow paced story with a sprawling open world and a ton of NPC side quests, because although this is a Bethesda game and very much plays like one, the city of Tokyo is dense and overrun by spirits. But the animals that are still wandering the streets make the lack of NPC’s worth it (you’re damn right you can pet the dogs)
I've played the game for a bit and I'm already hooked! It honestly deserves more fame, it has a very good soundtrack, the fighting is fluid and pure eye candy and the art style is beautiful, I'm honestly surprised it isn't very popular.
This is the first review I watched in which I really got a good idea about how the player felt. It seems unique and I interesting aside from the repetitiveness.
The Evil Within 1 and 2 were surprisingly good, and exceeded my expectations, but this will be another black Friday grab for me considering it's only a 15 hour game minus all the side content. Definitely looking forward to it though.
Good take. One thing you could have dwelled more is the open world map of Tokyo and how big and close it is to the real one... The combat and gameplay are always there and would never stay fresh regardless.....
This game just looks so cool and unique and I can't wait to play it. I love DmC, Resident Evil, and The Evil Whithin. And the reflections of those games seem to really shine in Ghostwire. The character designs are just so cool and I love it. To other people, it might get repetitive. But I already know I'll be engulfed by this game just because of ghost designs.

They way I feel this game. I'm not wanting to get home from work excited to play . But when I finally boot the game up. I'm having a blast. Never wanting to stop.
I'm playing it now while it's on PS Extra and I'm hooked. I can see where some people might find it monotonous but I love the artwork, voice acting and just traversing the city.
As someone who is nearing the end of the story- the game does start off *very* slow. You are given only a few options and things open up one by one. It helps you get comfortable with what you’ve already been given but it does create a false idea that is all the game is. It’s much more than you think it is. If you like exploration and collecting things, get this game. If you’re only in it for horror or combat, it might not be for you (at full price at least) the collection aspect is meant to strengthen your character so avoiding it will only make things more difficult than they need to be. If you only want to sprint to the finish, it will be frustrating. Take your time, it will be worth it. if you just love Japan and want to explore the streets and read interesting lore, this game is great (so long as you can handle a little bit of scary) I am not one to play horror games (but I do watch youtubers play them) so playing one on my own is actually fun when I can fight back with magical powers and explore a place I want to visit one day. It’s certainly not a game for everyone though.
This game is not scary or spooky at all despite being labeled as 'horror', unfortunately. I didn't feel 'the sense of dread' which is the theme of this game.

Is this extremely open world (as in alot of running around with minimal purpose) or does it have short distances between objs? As someone with ADD, i really have to consider every game I buy. I avoided this game for a long time because of all the reviews but recently picked it up on sale on steam and I'm about 15 hours inAnd I'm having a very enjoyable time playing it. Being a fan of Japanese lore and Japan itself definitely helps but this is by no means a bad game.
I just finished it. It's fun and has some really good ideas + visuals but there's also a lot of issues, I'd say it's probably best to wait for a sale if you're interested.
Tbh it's a bit more arcade-y than I hoped for. A story-driven horror adventure with a large talent tree of different spells is what i'd have preferred. I'm sure it'll have an audience, just not for me. Oh well.. Thanks for the detailed review Jake!
@@Melancholy308 considering horizon has several tools for every situation, and Aloy already have experience in fighting various machines. considering the dude was just a regular guy, and the ghost possessing him isn't a full master due to the small set, but just enough to get him by and survive. And there's the thing with the enemy types.
looked at the gameplay and i knew the visual direction is gonna be awesome, but at the same time could tell how repetitive the gameplay might be. i do hope for a sequel to this as the creative concept behind it is already enough to hook me in
@@newlife45692 ofc all games are repetitive, but there's ones that keep you engaged by feeding you new concepts to freshen things up and ones that don't change at all In this case ghostwire falls in the middle, where they do introduce new things throughout the game, but not enough to be engaged in or it doesn't add enough depth/layers to the game Like Jake said in the review about the enemies, they introduce new ones but most end up being solved the same way as in by just keep shooting.
I pre-ordered it I know for a fact it’s a game I will like I understand The combat gets a little bit stale after a while but most games kinda do. It’s not gonna be perfect by any means but definitely worth the visuals and the duel sense eating my battery to shit.

It’s a pity most people won’t even get to see that when you play this on the hardest difficulty the combat is very intense and quite refreshing, in fact that’s one of the strong suits of this game, you guys really have to think a little deeper. I like this game a lot, at least in how it looks and exploring Tokyo on the ground and on the rooftops, the combat does look like it needs a bit more depth but although i would have expected more from that i am ok with it. but £50.00 is a bit much so i may wait and see if its going to come to gamepass.

I started this game about a week ago and I really enjoy it. The points Jake made is 100% valid but I'd say the side quests that padd out the main story are mostly good. I describe it as spooky Tokyo Bioshock. And I got to give it an extra couple points for having a main character with a ghost protagonist in his head and they talk to each other. Side note though Jake brought up the cosmetics and yes you can get a lot. My thing is is that it's all first person so doesn't really matter that much unless you have gloves or something.
Would just like to congratulate the Gameranx team for their milestone. 7 million subscribers is plenty, but imo still way less than you deserve. I've followed many gaming channels since I started watching youtube when I was a teen, and you guys are the only ones I haven't yet unsubscribed. I recently brought the game & in having a blast.... especially now i found out how to change my voice settings from the default Japanese to English. No offense....reading subtitles got old real quick....i done it already with the "Yakuza" series....then i change my frame rate numbers for a smooth experience....i didnt care for the stiff deault frame rate setting ....once i customize my settings ...my gamesplay was sweet.....For those whonthing of buying this game.....picture "Yakuza's open city with ghost, healdless ghost children & Slenderman ghost figures. Every once in a while you face a boss battle. But most of the time the game forces you to explore & liberate areas by either cleansing the cluster ghost from the area or you cleanse a prayer shrine to open up new areas...... Theres side quest as well as special ghost missions & of course the main missions
This would be extremely enjoyable in vr and using a glove controller where you imitate the gestures to fire projectiles.

while interesting , it would ruin the fight flow , they'd need to slow the enemies A LOT to give you time to react since going from just pressing a button combination to the delay of you thinking what to cast and doing the motion would take a lot longer

I've played a few hours of it and so far I'm really enjoying it. The story and characters are interesting. The combat is a little lacking but it's still fun however, they should have added a little more variety with the combat options, like being able to set up traps, summon spirits to help you fight, stun or freeze enemies temporarily. It feels like we're playing as an onmyoji so I kind of wish there were more onmyoji like abilities.
Nioh did the onmyoji thing really well. They could learn something from that

I love this game, the lore is great, I like the gameplay, the enemies can get repetitive, but that's the same for most games, how many different types of enemies can you have in a game. I am obsessed with this game, and I love the intereraction with the 2 main characters.

As a horror digital illustrator, I find this game to be super intriguing!!!!! Tho the combat could've used more Doom Eternal ideas. Big fan of Tango! They deserve more support for trying out new things and embracing new IPs!!! Kudos to them!

I'm here for the open world and Japanese horror. It also sounds like a game where I can play as much or as little as I want every day and that's a huge plus for me.
For any interested in the way the main character does combat within the game and would like to know more, his combat style seems to heavily mirror historical (and admittedly fantastical) depictions of what's called Onmyōdō, or the art of the Onmyōji.
For a very basic explanation, Onmyōji were practitioners of spiritual arts and divination commonly tasked with excising Youkai and the spirits of those unable to pass on from this plane of existence to the next.
You're close; It should be "Onmyōdō" and "Onmyōji".

Ahhh so that must be similar or the same magic that is used in Nioh games, which it simply just calls Omnyo. When you cast a spell your character does similar hand motions, which I believe is the sword hand mudra. Funny thing is in real ritualistic magick the same mudras are frequently used

When the mc is a ranged attacker, you gotta have bosses that have ranged attacks or a long weapon. Otherwise it is just spamming attack from far.

I've been playing the early access and I feel like this game does more rights than wrong. The combat to me feels a little bland but I'm hoping it gets better but the world design with a mix of Japanese myths just makes this a really beautiful game and the story and the characters has me hooked.

I really love the style and art direction this took. The gameplay overall from what this video shows doesn't wow me but looks like it gives a lot of cool visuals that I wouldn't mind experiencing!

I am very much looking forward to this game, have been since it got announced. I've been pleased to hear Tango did their thing with some cool and spooky environmental design, that's something I loved a lot in their older games. Also as someone who is very into Shinto mythology and lore it's just cool to see a game that's gonna dive into that world a bit. I'll take a "good not great" game over a bad and broken one any day

5 hours in and absolutely loving the game so far. Love the Tokyo open world and the side quests I’ve done so far are engaging and interesting. Nothing to big (yet, still early so things could change up later) but really enjoyable. Not able to play again before the weekend but can’t wait to dive into it again this weekend

@@Andrew52_52 hey, glad you are enjoying it! can I ask? can you change the difficulty in-game? what's the default? and have you tried the upping it? it looks pretty damn amazing, but it also looks like something that is more about the aesthetics and less about the combat, ie I was pretty bored with deathloop early on. I want to like this game, thematically it's the shit and looks so creative.. but its looks a bit repetitive and simple for me.. and combat is like a must-enjoy for me, vs exploration. if the combat is hard or at least fun or varied enough, then I can enjoy the simple little fetch quests and exploration more, as it's a nice breather. but I can't if that's the whole game.

Honestly to me, I like that you don't say whether or not you hate or like a game straight up. Even really bad games have some enjoyable things to them that make it hard to decide the thoughts on them.
The way you put out your thoughts on good and bad while still not sugar coating anything is super helpful when actually determining if I'll enjoy a specific game based on my own tastes.

I may actually buy this. I absolutely love the concept of the combat. All these like “chi” Doctor Strange style spell casting looks so damn addictive and the environments and atmosphere sounds right up my alley

Honestly, you are right that all reviews are written in a subjective light, but a good reviewer can objectively point out everything they noticed, whether good, bad, annoying, or interesting. The difference lies in that when you try to be objective, you make an active effort to remain neutral and to eliminate bias. Kinda reminds me of Infamous with the sorta side missions of restoring power to areas of the city to advance the story, exploring to find orbs that improve your powers, and to some extent the combat as well. Really liked that and the sequels always improved, so this has my interest.

Playing it from PS plus now. Really fun game and really well done. The only thing that sucks is they should have made different attacks work better against certain enemies, seems like an easy miss on their part. Cool world, and super informative of Japanese culture. Highly recommend it

Congrats on the 7 Mil, I'm expecting this to focus more on the lore, on Japanese history, culture and Urban Legends with lots of cool things to find and learn about, I've already Pre-Ordered this and intend to play this on my channel (still trying to get it to be self sustaining and to be my only job, so still having to work around another job at the moment and still trying to grow my audience), really looking forward to playing this and seeing what it has to offer
The evil with-in 1 is so much better than evil with-in 2 which bummed me out because I loved the first game and it's creativity I just wanted to see the gameplay mechanics improve and combat and stuff but they decided to go with that open world idea and I don't think they delivered at all. The only good parts were the more focused moments of the 2nd game but I think the first game just had better vibe, creativity, structure, characters, they just needed something's improved. I hope we get more 3rd person horror games like that. Psychological twistedness macabre dark subject matter and puzzles, etc.
Man I absolutely loved evil within 2. And the semi open world parts were great and reminded me so much of being back in silent hill but with lots of actual interesting side stuff to do. The main villan in the beginning was also great, I just wish they used him throughout the whole game up until Sebastiáns wife because that fire dude was not set up great at all.
clockwork orange, I found Father Theodore himself to be an interesting antagonist, but wasn’t as keen on the dungeon, molten lava type area he created because it felt so empty. As he was a communal narcissist I’d have loved his mutated world to contain more tricks and smoke ‘n’ mirror type situations. We only really get this when Sebastian is talking to an illusion of his daughter and his boss sequence. I’d have loved there to be way more puzzles in general during his section.
I’m a huge fan of TEW in general though, this was the only section that dragged a little.
After listening to Jake's commentary, I can't help but get the feeling that everyone is going to compare every game to elden ring. It just seems like everyone is expecting the same level of gameplay when they pick up a new game so it's going to be one of those things where elden ring is the benchmark for having a good game or having an exquisite game.
Elden Ring is already GOTY. only game that's even gonna come close to beating it is Ragnarok.
Wait until breath of the wild 2 comes out and comparing elden ring to it will go full 180 with it being compared to elden ring
@Worst Case Scenario my only complaint with the game is the fact that it was never optimized for PC or Xbox gameplay. The game has a memory pool problem which creates the screen stutter that most people experience and the reason for that is because the game was optimized for the memory pool allocation for the PS5 versus a PC or Xbox setup. If they are able to fix that problem and get rid of that screen stutter than I would full hardly agree that the game is game of the year.
I played elden ring up to that boss Misomething, where you use an item to chain him down. Gameplay is just an evolution of Dark Souls 3 with some Sekiro thrown in, I really don't understand the goty claims. I thought Sekiro was way more fun
Not really. People tried to compare elden ring to horizon forbidden west and I don't think that's appropriate. Horizons main attraction is it's incredible story and it's well written and fleshed out characters. There's not a single dark souls game that really has any of that. It's like trying to compare final fantasy to Tetris. It's two very different games with two very different focuses.

Honestly stoked for this game. I'm a game dev myself, I feel like I owe it to myself to play this. I was enthralled from the first trailer I saw. The art is insane, the fx are nuts and the aesthetic is off the hook. Defiantly on board for this one. Pre order is already in.

yes it can get repetitive, I'm not expecting the side quests to be like the Witcher 3 but I'm loving it mostly case of the exploration , playing it on PC and i'd definitely advise people go with a controller for the unique experience
The sign weaving is amazing, the graphic is what you can expect from a Bethesda and the creators of Evil Within ,
the gameplay is 50-50. I just wish they would accentuate more on the horror and by that i was expecting more horrifying monsters like Ju-on - vengeful ghost like in the Grudge or Samara from Ringu.

This game isn’t for everyone, but for the ones who’d enjoy it, you’ll really enjoy it - especially with the PlayStation 5 controller. It’s paced and plays out very similarly to how an anime like Parasyte or Tokyo Ghoul would, and it helps to keep you hooked and having fun, especially if something like that sounds appealing to you. Not to mention it has some insanely unique gameplay, so you’ll feel as if you’re playing something fresh and brand new.
If you’re into Japanese folklore, magic and Bethesda games, give this one a go. I’m confident you’ll enjoy it. Just keep your expectations in check and don’t expect a slow paced story with a sprawling open world and a ton of NPC side quests, because although this is a Bethesda game and very much plays like one, the city of Tokyo is dense and overrun by spirits.
But the animals that are still wandering the streets make the lack of NPC’s worth it (you’re damn right you can pet the dogs)
I've played the game for a bit and I'm already hooked! It honestly deserves more fame, it has a very good soundtrack, the fighting is fluid and pure eye candy and the art style is beautiful, I'm honestly surprised it isn't very popular.

Good take. One thing you could have dwelled more is the open world map of Tokyo and how big and close it is to the real one... The combat and gameplay are always there and would never stay fresh regardless.....
This game just looks so cool and unique and I can't wait to play it. I love DmC, Resident Evil, and The Evil Whithin. And the reflections of those games seem to really shine in Ghostwire. The character designs are just so cool and I love it. To other people, it might get repetitive. But I already know I'll be engulfed by this game just because of ghost designs.

They way I feel this game. I'm not wanting to get home from work excited to play . But when I finally boot the game up. I'm having a blast. Never wanting to stop.
I'm playing it now while it's on PS Extra and I'm hooked. I can see where some people might find it monotonous but I love the artwork, voice acting and just traversing the city.

As someone who is nearing the end of the story- the game does start off *very* slow. You are given only a few options and things open up one by one. It helps you get comfortable with what you’ve already been given but it does create a false idea that is all the game is. It’s much more than you think it is.
If you like exploration and collecting things, get this game.
If you’re only in it for horror or combat, it might not be for you (at full price at least)
the collection aspect is meant to strengthen your character so avoiding it will only make things more difficult than they need to be. If you only want to sprint to the finish, it will be frustrating. Take your time, it will be worth it.
if you just love Japan and want to explore the streets and read interesting lore, this game is great (so long as you can handle a little bit of scary)
I am not one to play horror games (but I do watch youtubers play them) so playing one on my own is actually fun when I can fight back with magical powers and explore a place I want to visit one day. It’s certainly not a game for everyone though.
This game is not scary or spooky at all despite being labeled as 'horror', unfortunately. I didn't feel 'the sense of dread' which is the theme of this game.

Is this extremely open world (as in alot of running around with minimal purpose) or does it have short distances between objs? As someone with ADD, i really have to consider every game I buy. Do you think it's worth getting anyway?

Really loving this game so far, but that's mainly because I love Tokyo and the amount of detail tango put into Shibuya is insane!
Thanks for the honest review. Was really hoping it would lean a lot more on the horror side, would had been pretty disappointed to spend money on yet another first person action game.
Lots of cool concepts though, hope it gets a fanbase but its not for me right now.
I avoided this game for a long time because of all the reviews but recently picked it up on sale on steam and I'm about 15 hours inAnd I'm having a very enjoyable time playing it. Being a fan of Japanese lore and Japan itself definitely helps but this is by no means a bad game.
I just finished it. It's fun and has some really good ideas + visuals but there's also a lot of issues, I'd say it's probably best to wait for a sale if you're interested.
Tbh it's a bit more arcade-y than I hoped for. A story-driven horror adventure with a large talent tree of different spells is what i'd have preferred. I'm sure it'll have an audience, just not for me. Oh well.. Thanks for the detailed review Jake!
Agreed. It looks great on every aspect except the GAME PLAY. How's that good for a video game?
theres only 3 spells and thats just way too little, should've been more variety for combat like in horizon
@@Melancholy308 considering horizon has several tools for every situation, and Aloy already have experience in fighting various machines. considering the dude was just a regular guy, and the ghost possessing him isn't a full master due to the small set, but just enough to get him by and survive. And there's the thing with the enemy types.
looked at the gameplay and i knew the visual direction is gonna be awesome, but at the same time could tell how repetitive the gameplay might be. i do hope for a sequel to this as the creative concept behind it is already enough to hook me in

@@newlife45692 ofc all games are repetitive, but there's ones that keep you engaged by feeding you new concepts to freshen things up and ones that don't change at all
In this case ghostwire falls in the middle, where they do introduce new things throughout the game, but not enough to be engaged in or it doesn't add enough depth/layers to the game
Like Jake said in the review about the enemies, they introduce new ones but most end up being solved the same way as in by just keep shooting.

I pre-ordered it I know for a fact it’s a game I will like I understand The combat gets a little bit stale after a while but most games kinda do. It’s not gonna be perfect by any means but definitely worth the visuals and the duel sense eating my battery to shit.
Yeah you can say any games combat gets repetitive if it’s a game that interests you then it’s not simple as that like with Control I thought the combat would get repetitive but I actually grew to like it even more and now it’s one my favorite games all time!

This game really held my attention after its announcement, but gameplay really looks lacking in combat depth & unique types of quests. Hopefully some later DLC makes this game worth the AAA asking price.
This game looked like an easy skip from the moment I saw the first bit of gameplay unfortunately… The initial reveal trailer looked so freaking good but as has become standard, the final product rarely lives up

This normally isnt my type of game but when its on sale i will give it a try. Because i think the idea and the style is really cool and its unique and fresh and we need that.

That’s why he’s my favorite reviewer he’s not your typical game reviewer where he says the game is a masterpiece or it’s trash he gives his thoughts on things he absolutely loved about the game and others that he didn’t like or could be improved I definitely agree that this game is not going to be for everyone but imo video games aren’t meant to appeal to everyone there’s games that others will like and others that won’t that’s why games are considered art people will love or not love that piece of art

This looks like a top 5 game to come out this year so far, would really like to see more people playing this one. The negative reactions to the trailers and gameplay never made sense to me, it always looked cool or at least pretty good? If Elden Ring and Horizon didn't come out right before this, I feel like this would've been much more hyped
I held off on this toll it was on PS Plus and after being to Japan last year, i can appreciate this a lot more. The areas are very accurately done
I love how u feel the need to explain urself near the end there, but dont realise ur absolutely hitting the target. From this review i know exactly what I'm getting - a rly cool first person open world game that looks n feels very different, but with the same old open world clutter. I was really interested in this tool I seen the combat. It looks fun but also super basic. It needs one more aspect or something.
I thought this game was just as bad as Evil Within 2… Shame, I really liked the first Evil Within.
It’s a pity most people won’t even get to see that when you play this on the hardest difficulty the combat is very intense and quite refreshing, in fact that’s one of the strong suits of this game, you guys really have to think a little deeper. I started this game on the hardest difficulty and I’m the only one that thinks the game is amazing

I like this game a lot, at least in how it looks and exploring Tokyo on the ground and on the rooftops, the combat does look like it needs a bit more depth but although i would have expected more from that i am ok with it.
but £50.00 is a bit much so i may wait and see if its going to come to gamepass.

I started this game about a week ago and I really enjoy it. The points Jake made is 100% valid but I'd say the side quests that padd out the main story are mostly good. I describe it as spooky Tokyo Bioshock. And I got to give it an extra couple points for having a main character with a ghost protagonist in his head and they talk to each other.
Side note though Jake brought up the cosmetics and yes you can get a lot. My thing is is that it's all first person so doesn't really matter that much unless you have gloves or something.
Would just like to congratulate the Gameranx team for their milestone. 7 million subscribers is plenty, but imo still way less than you deserve. I've followed many gaming channels since I started watching youtube when I was a teen, and you guys are the only ones I haven't yet unsubscribed. Kudos to you for being the best gaming channel out there, and here's to another 7 million.

The “open world” looks completely empty. Rather than open world we need to start calling it what a lot of these lifeless games are, open level.

I recently brought the game & in having a blast.... especially now i found out how to change my voice settings from the default Japanese to English. No offense....reading subtitles got old real quick....i done it already with the "Yakuza" series....then i change my frame rate numbers for a smooth experience....i didnt care for the stiff deault frame rate setting ....once i customize my settings ...my gamesplay was sweet.....For those whonthing of buying this game.....picture "Yakuza's open city with ghost, healdless ghost children & Slenderman ghost figures. Every once in a while you face a boss battle. But most of the time the game forces you to explore & liberate areas by either cleansing the cluster ghost from the area or you cleanse a prayer shrine to open up new areas......
Theres side quest as well as special ghost missions & of course the main missions
