  • In this video I give you an overview of the ARE camper shell. I have been able to use and see how many truck caps work over the long haul. Some of them include Snug Top, Leer, and ARE. ARE is one of the best as far as fit and finish of what they are able to offer.
    Overall this shell is great for the person who wants / needs a shell but can not spend more then $2000 dollars. If you bought this shell used you could save way more money down the long run. Tacoma shells are pretty prevalent and something I am considering doing is buying a used shell and getting it wrapped to color match my truck.
    Pros of the ARE CX series camper shell
    Paint match is great
    Fit is spot on for my Tacoma long bed
    Easy removal, you will need 2-3 people to lift the shell or make a set up to remove the shell but over all it comes off with just 4 bolts.
    Can be found used at a good price.
    Cons
    Some of the finish work isn’t up to the standard I think they should hold themselves to. Although it doesn’t leak it just isn’t what you want to see on your almost 2000 dollar shell.
    Does have areas that will need extra protection to make it completely water tight, that being said it does not leak with standards rain only when you take a hose to it.
    For me the windows not popping open presents a challenge to get to stuff stored near the front of my bed. This might not be a con for everyone.
    Front window does not fold down making it difficult to clean.
    I am happy with this shell and would keep it if I felt my needs down the road would not out grow this shell. I am glad I bought it and it has served its purpose for me to test out the camper shell life and I am glad I did, I would strongly suggest if you are on the fence about getting a shell buy one used and you can always resell it at little to no lose.

    I think truck shells are awesome. They keep all your gear cleaner than a truck bed rack and rooftop tent setup. Rain and dust get everywhere!

      Totally agree! Although I sold the shell in this video.... Update coming soon. Don't worry still have a shell for all the reasons you mentioned.

    Hello my tacoma is just like yours, and im looking for a camper shell just like yours but i dont know if my measure ments are right.. My measurements are 65 long and 66 wide... How much does your measure? I just want to give the correct numbers

    • @TrentMMoore
      @TrentMMoore  4 года назад

      What year is your Tacoma? When I bought my shell I went on LEERS website and just entered my truck information. This gave me the correct size for my truck. 65 sounds like you have a short bed truck. Are you measuring from outside to outside?

    I recently got a 2021 Tacoma TRD off-road with a long bed (73.2"), it is in army green color. I am not in hurry to get a camper shell but I am not sure if I would have to get a shell & get it painted to match. I'm afraid the shell would be crazy expensive considering the color army green had just come out. I'm little clueless about all of it :p

      If you find a LEER dealer near you they should be able to answer that for you. They took the paint color code off my door and color matched my shell. My guess is they would have the army green color available soon.
      Thanks for watching !

    Can you lock it from the inside?

    • @TrentMMoore
      @TrentMMoore  2 года назад +2

      No you can not. You could buy an aftermarket lock that can be controlled by a remote.

    I am about to order a Tacoma and I’m stuck to get a crew cab 5 or 6 foot bed. Do you have any regrets with your long bed ?

    • @TrentMMoore
      @TrentMMoore  3 года назад

      I like the long bed, for my use it has been great. That being said what do you plan on using the truck for? If you are going to be using the bed a lot to haul stuff and do not have access to a bigger truck go with the long bed. If you plan on sleeping in the bed go with the long bed. If you plan on doing any serious off-roading go with the short bed. I haven’t had any issues with the trails I have done in my truck, but the long bed does limit your ability. Also I think the short bed might look cooler but that is really just preference. Hope that helps. You can’t go wrong either way. Enjoy the new truck!

      @@TrentMMoore I live in Kansas, have a bird dog and quail/pheasant hunt. I also fish and camp. I don’t need this truck for work purposes, just basically everyday use (almost all dirt roads here) and we have bad weather. I do not think I would sleep in the back but if I had the long bed that would be an option. The idea is that this will be my sons first vehicle when it is time because it will be paid off by then. The short bed may be easier for him to drive and park for a first vehicle. Other thing is I rarely see a long bed crew cab on the road. I’m just stuck !

    • @TrentMMoore

      Gotcha! Seems like you use the truck similar to how I use it.
      If I was in your situation I would go with the long bed. If it is going to be your sons truck one day it will allow for more versatility. If you ever plan on getting motorcycles or a quad. The long bed will serve you. If you guys go on a camping trip together the option to jump in the back of the truck for a night the long bed is just more versatile and there isn’t really anything to lose.
      I just don’t think they are as common, toyota likes making short beds so long beds are harder to find which means they sell for more should you sell it down the road.
      That’s just my 2 cents take it for what it is worth. I have never been like oh man I wish I had a shorter bed. I have wished for a bigger bed.
