I was thinking a window unit would be cool, but also what about those room indoor moutable A/C units you see in smaller apartments ? What brand do you use?
I HAVE to get the AC unit. I live in SW Louisiana and it gets HOT. Even in the Fall it’s hot. This unit looks like it’s on point for what I need. Thanks for the great reviews.
It might be possible to modify your A/C to plug in an IR receiver, and then it's just a matter of installing said receiver into the wall of the camper to relay control signals to the unit outside. It would mean a new hole and a wire, but you could control the A/C from inside.
I would recommend to lightly wrap the hoses with an ace bandage then pour water on them. Maybe even plastic food wrap over it. When you are done recycle the plastic wrap then hang dry the ace bandage and re use. Maybe in this way the full potential of the air conditioner will be taken advantage of. Please try then post.👍
When I had my small trailer, I would use the heater more than the air conditioner. During the heat of the day I could always find shade, but at night, it was more comfortable to have a heated space.

The climate right is not currently available. Hiker does offer a rooftop air unit though - you would have to check with them on pricing. Thanks for the feedback - appreciate it :-)
I think it works great, definently needed for added comfort while camping. They should have designed a more lighter unit that can lay flat across the camper instead of on top of the storage box. I would suggest a wall mount or perhaps building a rack to hold the unit.

This AC unit is no longer available. There are multiple other smaller units that are out there these days. I don't think Hiker sells them but you can find them online - ZeroBreeze and EcoFlow are the most popular.
We have a T@G trailer with a built-in ac, it's pretty seamless and unseen from outside which is 75%of the reason we bought it. it can run off a 15 amp plug or our little 900w generator.

If you not following the pleasant weather around then yes, In my opinion you need an AC. For me though, that limits me to state and federal parks. A bit of a catch 22. All depends on how you camp as to weather or not an AC unit is for you.
Looking at the specifications on the tag, a Honda 2000i could run this if not plugged in to 110 AC. I’m wondering if a smaller unit Climate Right makes would equally get the job done.

Airgun Nuub we thought of this and honestly in 25 nights have have used the air once. The max fan is amazing. The other thing I read is the built in cabinet units are fragile and don’t handle wash board roads well. There have been reports of condensation issue water leaking back in to the cabin cause water damage to cabinets. And over heating. Each manufacturer has to decide to build it in and charge more or let the customer decide on ac or not. I personally don’t want the built in ac taking up cabinet space inside for the few times I use it.
Matt DeWitt I can see your point. Since I’m still in the market for one of these trailer Campers, I’ll have to keep it in mind. Thanks and keep your videos coming I really enjoy them.
We are still using ours but if it breaks looking for a backup solution. currently I have a way to pull in air using the vents and the fantastic fan which in most cases in cool enough you don't need air. I have shown this off in other videos . I am workiing on a 3d printed cap that has bug protection and rain protection but will let the air in for ventilation.
Why would you “have” to have shore power to run the AC ? I haven’t done the math ( ohm’s law stuff), but I would bet 2 batteries would run a small unit for 24 + hours, a few hours at a time. Nice walk around.👍
Hey Matt, Can you let me know what adapters they used for the ends that attach to the Hiker? I'm also on the FB group if it's easier to contact me that way. Thank you!
Hey Matt, great video. A question if you don't mind, does this AC run continuously (ie slowing down when the air inside hits the desired temperature and speeding up when it falls below) or does it stop and start? Thanks.
Nice video. In south Florida it's a must. But I dont like camping where there is power available. Do you think a little Honda Generator will push that unit?

Hey Matt. Just picked up my hiker trailer this weekend! I wanted to know how this climate right unit is holding up over time? Basically all the reviews I've read online about it aren't good haha so I was just curious if yours was still working fine
Daniel Jordan we have had no issues with ours. I do baby it and move it carefully. I pack items that will protect it going down the road. I wouldn’t use it for serious off roading roads. I do find more times then not we bring it but end up not using it. I really like the ventilation of the max fan and a cracked window. Keeps us cool all night long. Thanks for watching.
I would bet setting this thing up on a square frame that sits a tad higher than an oil drip tray would be pretty effective and wouldnt leave a towel you need to dry

Thanks for the detail videos. I live in northern UT. Is there anyone you know that has a Hiker that I can look at. I priced a medium unit and it appears to be costly for what you get, so I would need to see one up close. Also, Hiker told me there was a year lead time from the time you pay the upfront 40% cost to get on the schedule. This does not sound like good service. Please comment. Thanks
I, like you would need the AC. I need to get to Indiana to see one of these. I am planning to go to Alaska in a couple of years, and this type of trailer is what I am considering. so heat and Ac for me will be a must. What is it like getting dressed in this type of camper. pulling on you pants lying down a pain?
First let me thank you for this video nobody explains this system. just a couple of questions anad a comment, if I may 1st. does the unit itself come from hiker? 2nd. can you have the cold air come in either side, with a small mod of vents inside? 3rd. will it fit in the tool box for travel? 4th. can a small Honda generator power it if your off grid? 5th. do u get condensation dripping down the inside wall below the vent? Comment #1. Have you thought of moving it to the ground, off the tool box, and simplify getting extension hose from Lowes? Comment #2. I agree with u about the remote not working from inside the hiker, almost a deal breaker for me... Again that you very very much for this.
When I purchased the trailer then dropped ship it to my house . It comes from Climate Rite which I believe is OHIO. 2. If switch the hose around you can have the cold air come in to which ever vent you want. It will not fit in my Large box that I purchased. You would have to check with Hiker if they make a box big enough for that. There are several hiker members on the private hiker facebook page that have modified their box to make it permanent in there toolbox. I believe it could but you would have to check with climate rite on that. No condensation inside .
Hi. Typically A/C units only run off shore power. If no shore power then, you need a generator. Generator should be able to put out enough power to power the A/C. But, the A/C unit in the Matt's video should only need a 2000 watt inverter generator.
So you have to use this unit exclusively or are there alternatives to these units. I just looked this unit up online but it is out of stock indefinitely 🥲
Yeah, due to tariffs supposedly, that unit is not being made currently. Hiker Trailers is working on an alternative that would hook up the same way......but it is not currently available.

People I read bad things took them off road and they don’t care for that. We had a humid night last July 90 percent and 75 overnight. We sleep like babies and no humid covers. It paid for itself right there.
@@MWDAdventures I noticed you have a 5000BTU. They make a 2500BTU.. do you think thats enough to cool a 7x12 insulated trailer? Or would you recommend the 5000?
@@randomstuffwithjoe With how cold our trailer gets with the 5000. I think you could get away with the 2500 but if I had to do it again I would still do the 5000. I like it cold when its muggy out it will pull more moisture out of the air faster.
How heavy is heavy?
winky phillips 63.3 lbs.
Great review! Thanks:)
I have searched and searched for the Valterra ac vent cover you have in your trailer. Any idea what it's called and where to find one?
I found them on amazon and Etrailers.com
Are those twist lock fittings the same we use on the RV gray water I ask because I need some of those
M Langford yes they Are.
Where you buy I try to find amazone ebay
Unfortunately they are not currently available for new purchase. You might be able to find one on ebay.
How much does it weigh?
The climate right weighs around 60#
Can the ac work on solar for off grid?
Tina Daniels , no the AC has too big of a draw for solar
Nice video 💕💕💕💕
Where did you but the hose connectors?
I dont know, AC really is not camping. Where inwould
Go doesn’t have shore power anyway for that giant heavy unit
Those fittings look like the ones on the water dump, are they the same fitting
M Langford they are. It’s genius it works well.
@@MWDAdventures Genus until another camper in your group uses your account to dump their trailer. 😆🤣😂
What model climate right are you using?
Charles Shankle 5000.
Does anyone know whether any teardrop manufacturers have considered any roof mounted AC solutions for their trailers?
check out my latest video. One member has a roof unit air but it requires support for the air unit and increased weight support.
Thanks
Yes taylor from Park City UT. Check out the extreme off road video I have on my channel.
How large of generator is required to run AC?
gerard haubert good question. I would think a Honda 2000 could do it. I would call the manufacturer.
The unit should be turned around the other way as to not block the hot air coming out of the condenser.
Since its using RV black hoses there are 90 degree connections and even Y's available so it could be re-routed.
I'd also collect that drip water
Looks like a pain in the ass. Going for a 150$ window unit.
Any reason you went with the 5000 over the 2500?
Call Sign Gino it was purchased from hiker with the trailer. It was recommended
sam darakjy we used it this weekend. Set to 68 and it was perfect. Ran all night and keep us cool and dry.
Air is needed. Humidity can kill.
You stated shore power but you didn't state generator. Your unit showed 1300 watts. Most generators could easily run that for boondocking.
Steve Rossi you are correct. I am sure it could be run off generator
Depends on a lot of things . I personally always take along a changing tent. It works great. Review coming out Tuesday.
How loud is it
ernie trujillo not bad at all. I like the white noise.
A.c. is needed
First let me thank you for this video nobody explains this system. just a couple of questions anad a comment, if I may
1st. does the unit itself come from hiker?
2nd. can you have the cold air come in either side, with a small mod of vents inside?
3rd. will it fit in the tool box for travel?
4th. can a small Honda generator power it if your off grid?
5th. do u get condensation dripping down the inside wall below the vent?
@@MWDAdventures thank you for getting back to me
@@MWDAdventures is your climate rite a heater also
@@BillyTpower Yes it can do both.
Does the unit have a dedicated dehumidifier mode?
John Smith I don’t think so will have to check tonight.
brah i live in florida i need ac lol
So did it run off the battery?
connie waite no shore power only.
@@MWDAdventures would a small generator work? I expect so
MrManic52001 yes someone called Denver factory and they said yes.
@@MWDAdventures thank you
Hi. Typically A/C units only run off shore power. If no shore power then, you need a generator. Generator should be able to put out enough power to power the A/C. But, the A/C unit in the Matt's video should only need a 2000 watt inverter generator.
5000 BTU for that little space? Don't they make one with less as that is complete overkill?? 1500 BTU would be fine and use less power.
About how many pounds is it?
swimmer8585 about 40-50 lbs.
@@MWDAdventures Oh that's not heavy. When you said too heavy for one person I figured it would be like 200 lbs
No built in A/C no Hiker Trailer. Deal breaker!
HIker does offer a rooftop AC option now.
Thanks Matt better to have it and not need it then not have it and need definitely here in AZ whats the best way to contact you email
mwdadventures@gmail.com
So you have to use this unit exclusively or are there alternatives to these units.
I just looked this unit up online but it is out of stock indefinitely 🥲
Yeah, due to tariffs supposedly, that unit is not being made currently. Hiker Trailers is working on an alternative that would hook up the same way......but it is not currently available.
