Bro sorry for the loss
Appreciate it kinfolk. We just took them to the process today and manne that was a lot of chicken
Ouch! Shelters are definitely lacking protection from the elements. Lesson learned the hard way.
Actually, that coop gives them great production. Our Heritage meat birds had no issues with that hutch a month prior to this. And it was a lot cooler. These Cornish X just aren't hardy nor sustainable. Wish we could find a local processor that would do heritage birds.
You are such a caring person. Those chickens are fortunate indeed to be under your care.
Appreciate the kind words. We ended up with 115 birds out of 155. Took them to the processor yesterday, and now one less task of our list. I'm definitely looking for a more resilient production bird.
@@7FarmerSidney7 They cannot get wet, can they?
@@dwighthires3163 I guess not these types of birds. Our heritage birds were ok at their age.
@@7FarmerSidney7 Yes, I am confident that the American Bresse will have feathers at this age whereas the Cornish Cross still had many bare spots and could not get both wet and cold at the same time. Approximately what per cent more feed does it take to get the American Bresse up to butcher weight than the Cornish Cross? Are you feeding any milk your American Bresse for the extra flavor?
@@dwighthires3163 I am actually going ti experiment between the cornish and the ABC this coming up August. Get both birds at the same time and raise them in the same conditions. I know it will take the ABC an extra 8 weeks however, I will be keeping track of mortality rates, feed conversions, and weights. I know the cornish will and should win the weight. Anything else should I keep track of?
I know exactly how you feel. We lost 42 out of 45 meat chickens because of hurricane Beryl.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Im going to start another batch in 21 days alongside the American Bresse
