Did I miss something? The pilot had a flame out on one turbine and had the presence of mind to figure out (in a split second) that he was carrying enough energy to see him through to a dead stick landing, so killed the other three turbines (around 4:29) and still made a pretty text book landing (he can still use the plane again). The guy deserves a medal for cool thinking under pressure
Brilliant. Now that the only remaining flying Vulcan will shortly be flying its last flight, this is a great consolation prize and a fantastic piece of engineering. Many congratulations to the team that put this scale model together!
Oh my goodness, brilliant, when we win our millions we will commission you guys to come to Australia and build one for us. I have had a love affair with the Vulcan since seeing her fly twice at Laverton outside Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, years ago. Hubby and I visited UK and the deal was if I would go with him I could see a Vulcan. Guess what, I did at Colindale, how wonderful, I stood under her and watched the video. We have supported the XH558 team for years, but alas she flies no longer. Sadly missed.
Excellent job David! After all the problems on the Sunday then to get it going, put on an excellent display, then a flameout, shut down all engines and glide in for a perfect landing! Thank you very much. :) (and thanks Dom for the videos. a bit closer to the action than we were!)
Amazing. I have always had a lot of respect for Model Aviators, the skill and dedication that goes into these amazing machines is incredible. So, a few 1/5 scale Victors and a distance of 1360 Nautical Miles (1/5 of the 6,800 NM of the real Black Buck), Plus perfecting R/C Air to Air Refueling. Anyone up for it?
Thank goodness you recovered the Vulcan back to terra firma successfully ... I would have been GUTTED if hadn't made it. Nicely flown - hoping to come to this event next year :o)
I'm from Aus. If we won Tatts, that's our major lottery here , could I buy one of your VULCANS. We have sponsored the XH558 for a few years, have been to Colindale just to stand undernthe bomb bay. I'm a 67 year old woman and have seen the Vulcan fly at Laverton, Victoria twice. Then it was a love affair. The most spectacular plane ever built. There is nothing like the sound of the Vulcan Howl.
Remarkable feat of engineering to create a model of Mighty Vulcan Bomber. Great thrill to watch it take off and land. For a moment, I was worried as flame shot out from one of the engines before it landed. Perfect landing. Congratulations for creating this working model. Many thanks. Would love to see it one day.
Doesn't happen very often, if at all on most RC jets Rick. There is a fire suppressant system for within fuselage but even that isn't used much. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
+AceNinja2112 It has 4 Wren Supersports if I remember correctly. It's basically all wing so I don't think it actually needs much thrust but with one engine misbehaving I suspect it was hard to keep flying. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Essential RC I love this kind of stuff! How long did it take to build her? I've always been fascinated with the Vulcan from a young age ever since I saw one, with my dad down in Wales flying up a valley when we were out for a walk near Glyncorrwyg. 4 Harriers came before it and the Vulcan just strolled down that valley and made it look a lot easier than the Harriers did! :)
very nice, looked at first as though the C of G was a little tail heavy but I'm guessing it was very windy? What jets were in it? and did the outer on seize but the ECU kept pumping fuel?
That was incredibly impressive! What an awesome model!!! I'm glad that the pilot got the plane down safely. I surely can't afford such a model like this but would you know where I could shop for huge models like this? I'm just real curious how much some of these monsters cost.
+mountaindewdude76 Maybe in the order of ~£15K to ~£20K...but I'm just guessing. You have to consider all the time and effort that goes into design and construction as well. Months if not years. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Sorry to hear that Kristian...if it makes you feel any better the forthcoming vids will be closer to the action that you would have been...so I hope you enjoy them - Dom
+Robert Roth This is designed and built from scratch. Takes a small team of skilled and enthusiastic modellers to do this and keep it running. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Would you ever come to Australia, if you would please let me know. Laverton Victoria Australia would be good, the last place the real Vulcan flew here was Laverton, I know because I was there the Roooar of the VULCAN. We do subscribe and support the on going project for the Vulcan, Doncaster, Robin Hood. But your beautiful model girl would be good to see please come and visit.
It wouldn't be practical to take a model like that to another country Lyn. It's huge. Always great to have appreciation for such a fantastic model though. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Not necessarily - in the Cold War years all of the V-bomber force were painted pure white, to help reflect away the heat/light radiation from a nuclear blast. It was only when they were re-tasked later that they were repainted in camouflage colours.
+bigbadredsox Well...it depends on your definition of toy. It is a model and the owner flies it as a hobby. If a guy had a Ferrari and drove it at the weekends for pleasure I would call that a toy as well. Either way I wouldn't argue about it. Thanks for your comment. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

+Joe Cooper Glad you enjoyed the vid Joe. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Wow! That is amazing. What a fantastic model and so well flown. That was a joy to watch
+eekypoo Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

Absolutely perfect landing for a situation that certainly could have ended in disaster.
Thank goodness you recovered the Vulcan back to terra firma successfully ... I would have been GUTTED if hadn't made it. Nicely flown - hoping to come to this event next year :o)

Excelent cold blood and quick thinking!! My hat's off to the pilot

Would love to see it one day.
Me again. We were at the Lilydale Model Aueroplane show recently and I would love to see one of these guys flying the VULCAN.
Very impressed with the plane and the person controlling it even more so! He must have nerves of steel!
+Jon-Cameron Bates +1 on that. Always a pleasure to watch this fly. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
GREAT STUFF DAVE FROM PERKSY IN THE STATES !!! I AM STILL FLYING OVER HERE !!
that is incredible.top 2 fave plane of all time.up there with concorde.nice flying too.
what a fabulous aircraft, a definite ten out of ten for your effort, it was all worth it.
i love that white red and blue Canadian paint scheme
Absolutely magnificent !
You jet flyers/builders are innovative, can't be that hard to come up with a Co2 cartridge fire suppressant system
Doesn't happen very often, if at all on most RC jets Rick. There is a fire suppressant system for within fuselage but even that isn't used much. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Now more than ever. The last flight of the VULCAN.
Absolutely fabulous! BRAVO!!!!!!
+Lynne Roue (Fruitloop) Yup...bit special this one Lynne. Thanks for your comment. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
This plane is seriously underpowered. It looked like it was on the verge of a stall several times during the video!
+AceNinja2112 It has 4 Wren Supersports if I remember correctly. It's basically all wing so I don't think it actually needs much thrust but with one engine misbehaving I suspect it was hard to keep flying. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
20 feet!?? That's a bloody Cessna! Awesome stuff!
+navnig Thanks. Yup. Wingspan wise it's almost up there with a full size. Thanks for watching. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

Amazing! So graceful.
DavidB1947 Thanks David. Agree with you. I never get tired of seeing this BIG model fly. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Oh my goodness it looks so real yeh.
If I only saw the in air stuff, (apart from knowing there hasnt been a white vulcan in years) I would think it was real.
Flames first visible at 4:17
John R. Yea! Where was the Landing ?
Sunny One At 4:45

Love it to bits, what a buzz. We would love to build a model Vulcan. How can we?
Look on here for kits. tonynijhuisdesigns.co.uk/ Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
That is really cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Mr69ireland Yeah, show stopper this one. Always great to see it fly at a show. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
I SO want one of these!!
Such a graceful beast ;-)
they need to put a camera in that thing....it's definitely big enough to do it
With the flame coming out it reminded me of the Concorde crash!
+AceNinja2112 Yeah, what a tragic event in aviation history that was. Not something any of us want to see again. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
So unhappy I missed this I went on Saturday which all know was a wash out :-(
Sorry to hear that Kristian...if it makes you feel any better the forthcoming vids will be closer to the action that you would have been...so I hope you enjoy them - Dom
Awesome model, aren't you temped to give it the camo paintjob though?
+mickenoss A few years ago it did have a camo paint job so I doubt it would go back to that. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Awwwwww. I love the camoflage concorde look =)
That is extraordinary, how on earth do you make one of those??? I want one.
+Robert Roth This is designed and built from scratch. Takes a small team of skilled and enthusiastic modellers to do this and keep it running. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
nice, why no landing on video
Question - in Australia how could we build a model VULCAN. Help us please.
I hope my reply to your other post helped. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Awesome !
+robotmad Thanks. Appreciate your comment. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
I like it a lot
Nice Vulcan but very under powered!!
Was that a mini howl I heard? :P
+Alexander Poad Let's hope so. After the real XH558 has gone we need to get our Vulcan howl from somewhere. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
The nose profile is wrong. so is the leading edge of the wing.
very cool :)
that must have taken so long to paint
Much bigger than that and you could get in it and fly it yourself.
Would you ever come to Australia, if you would please let me know. no EGT indicator? ( kidding) :)
should be in camo

This is no toy here.
Awesome!!
