Took me 5 min to get a better sound from this plugin than months with my AX8... probably says a lot about me, but hopefully it says a lot about the plugin.
"Volume compensation for the second impulse response" as you say it, should be an urgent update to all Neural DSP products. Its the only thing i don't like in the previous releases.
i actually thought the same thing. the volume compensates when you add a second, but then there's no mix control and it's a constant game of trying to get back to unity gain
Not sure if it’s that big a deal tbh. Assuming all the IRs are normalized/auto-normalized to full-scale, just cut both IRs by 6dB. If they are coherent, they’ll sum back up to full-scale.
@@DroneCorpse That's exactly what it does. But if your mic gains are set differently there's still a volume difference switching the second mic on/off.
Great video. The User manual was very vague with how each component worked. It didn't even explain that the Crunch Amp was like a Marshall where adjusting the Master adds some compressed mids. They need to make the guide more like Waves plug ins which properly explain what each knob is actually doing.
I know it might be me who is not a skilled mixer, but I still struggle to get a decent tone in a mix with this. I feel it’s either to muddy and muffled when using the high gain amp, or du grainy (not clear sounding) when using the crunch amp. I’ve tried a bunch of things like using the EQ like the pros tell you, tried checkinh my DI. There is nothing wrong with my interface. I think I might need a new drum plugin, I have this conviction that you need good drums to make the guitars sound decent. At least for distorted guitars.
What a great sound design monster plugin. Thank you for making such passionated things possible. Feel the urge to throw it on every group channel track in my current mixing project as efx send-returns. So amazing :) A overall plugin mixknob - dry / wet would be great for audio engineers. Keep it up guys and skip the iLok crap some day ;)
It looks like it. I have the Henson and Wong plug ins and looking for another one. I want the Gojira for the pitch effects but I just know Nolly’s is going to sound better overall.
Hey! Not OP but I find the key to that chimey and cutting single coil high gain tone is wiring of your pickups, you want the inner coils of your humbuckers to be wired in parallel. On top of that a British style high gain amp helps, and picking the right cab/IR is important too.
@@Tangalang22 You can check out the Tesseract cover on my channel for a 5150 Tesseract tone. The key is long enough scale length on the low A string (to use a thin enough string), and a neck pickup in coil split/single coil mode. I have a danelectro baritone (30") which sounds even glassier/crunchier/more aggressive than the record, which afaik uses a 27" baritone vs the 26.5" on the strandberg
Well, I have no doubt about Archetype Nolly, the only thing I'm always curious when I watch these videos on RUclips is, these guitar riffs sounds I'm hearing while watching your video, where does it come from? is it recorded directly through your audio interface and then save that video as MP4 or mp3?
Turn down your input or the volume on the track your levels should be only around halfway up the meter, turn the speakers up if you want more volume. Check cables too.
Does each preset save settings for all amps and cabs? If delay is active in the preset is it active for all amps or can you have different stomp and post fx settings per amp?
So far this has been the most amp like pluggins that I have tried from your company. It would be nice in future pluggins to have stereo delay with separate parameters and/or a delay in which can one dictate the tempo. I am currently experimenting with the trial, which amp would you say comes closer to Holdsworth type lead sound?
Are there any known bugs in the trial version? Mine seems unusually noisy. Have to turn the Gate up way too high to sort of tame it. Thought that maybe my interface was malfunctioning, but my other Neural DSP and STL plug-ins sound perfectly fine.
I used to have the same problem with some plugins. Some would sound fine while others were very noisy. I started running my guitar through a Zoom MS-50G into the audio interface. On the interface I turned Pads off, Switched to Line and everything sounded clearer and better than ever. The Zoom is a multi effects stomp box but I'm not running anything on it, It's just turned on and in between my guitar and audio interface. If I remove it, then all the noise comes back. The trial version I'm using for the Nolly Archetype runs fine on my Mac though, and I never even tweaked the noise gate from default setting. Maybe try a DI Box or a pedal like a Tuner in between your signal to the audio interface.
Check if the power supply works correctly. I know by myself that some suppliers can introduce unwanted noise, as it is the case with my MacBook 😂. The reason behind this, could be that the audio interface I'm using does not share the same GND reference as the wall-plug-supplier, hence if I don't touch the MacBook chassis to relate those device to the same voltage reference, i would hear some tiny but annoying hum.
@@Driven2Beats Depends on what sort of setup you want. If you have two DI's routed to a bus(each DI is set hard L and R before the bus), click on stereo mode so the plugin will affect L and R independently. If your plugin is in stereo mode, you can't pan the IR's internally. Probably would cause phasing issues between the left and right guitar. If you want to get creative with IR panning, you'll need to set up an instance of nolly on the individual DI tracks with a stereo output so it'll pan the IR's properly.
This plugin is surprisingly versatile, rock, metal, lead, djent, chugg, even shoegaze and post rock thanks to that delay pedal in front of the gain stages. So well done.
When I first tried the demo, I was like what a piece of crap, sounds like cardboard. Realised my latency was selected at nearly 9 seconds! Changed to 0.7 seconds and was like wow, this is amazing hahaha
The playing, the pickups, the state of strings, there are a lot of things involved. A Fretless bass tends to be slightly less aggressive, especially if you use flatwounds.
The only thing i don't like is GATE - it's either not enough or cuts the real notes too early, totally unusable. In the demo the parts between the notes are cuted from the tracks, so there is no noise.
Great! Would love to get a free license...but everybody can dream of something right haha.... I will download the trial right after I come back from Holidays ...maybe I’ll do a review on my IG channel 😁💪

Love the Adam Jones tones Nolly has. My favourite Archetype.

Fantastic plugin and breakdown... and many thanks for the presets, Steve!
Yo, how about that update for the Nolly? It needs a tuner and updated midi functionality
Thank You
Can you run that cello in the back through the Archetype: Nolly?
I'm working on a cello cover right now so definitely!
the fortin sounds amazing
Great job Steven once again! Thank you Neural for changing the game! Aloha!
Thanks, zach! Cheers! 🤘😁🤘

How come my Archetype Nolly sounds so fizzy and digital compared to this?? Ive tried everything, even a DI box and emg pickups

When turning on the 2nd IR in stereo mode, does it send 1 to L and 2 to R? How does that work when recording?
Not automatically. There are pan knobs in the IR section so you can pan one left and one right.
