@@folkwayspodcast It was August the 8th years ago when I moved to Cornwall. I’ll not forget it. The day I landed here my watch stopped dead for no reason and I took it as a rather amusing sign, so I’ve never worn one since. Energies, signs, influences, patterns, sometimes dismissed as coincidences but rarely are. Anyway, I’d been a dowser for some time, again nothing serious, just dabbling with a pendulum but it was when I moved to Cornwall a good few Augusts ago that I could spend a little more time doing it, exploring places and techniques. I was fascinated by myths and legends and folklore (still am..) and I think the very first book I bought on my arrival to the county was The Owlman and Others, much to my girlfriend’s distress at the time - as I began reading it forthwith and point blank refused that year to go to Newlyn Fish Festival 😄 . This was of course because time was of the immediate essence if I were to see ‘Him’ (The Owlman) during one of my late night, witching hour vigils in and around Mawnan church and the woods beyond, before the autumnal equinox swallowed up any trace or impression of him for that year; such was my compulsion (and folly) back then to hunt The Owlman. Intriguingly (or not) I have knowledge of at least one brief, undocumented (as far as I’m aware) ‘encounter’, which I’m happy to share if anyone’s interested? Which reminds me that I am still looking forward to Part 2 of your Owlman ‘Vision From Hell’ videos, as it’s what first brought me to trip over one of those ‘coincidental’ tree roots and stumble right onto the old straight track of Folkways. Of which I’ve certainly enjoyed the July and August’s almanacs. Anyway, I’ll stop waffling now.. Thanks again for your endeavours.
Happy Harvest folks.
