  • How to build a simple but very handy motorized camera slider based on the Openbuilds/Vslot system. Just four 3D printed parts are needed to get this very useful camera equipment.

Amazing idea and great job making it so smooth! Thanks for the video! I wonder what kind of rig you are using for your soldering iron when pressing those inserts? Tried to look for something like that on Thingverse, but found only the one that uses aluminum extrusion rail and it looks more unstable then yours.

While I think the is a great design, the thing I was most impressed with is how well you applied the solder paste! A robotic arm could not have done a better job ;)

Your video is amazing. I am so impressed with your demonstration I subscribed! I certainly appreciate all the information you have provided. Thank you so much! I want to build your slider. My biggest concern is the code for the for the interface and stepper motor you used. I am by no means a programmer. Is the code available for download? It would be a great help for me (a non-programmer) to have. Thanks Again!

Did you ever test the repeatability of this rig? I want to know if you could use it for special effects/animation.
If you just take the exact same shot twice, say of the ducks and overlay the two piece of footage with 50% opacity or side by side and they match up well enough you could use this to create special effects with moving cameras, which are notoriously difficult as they require camera tracking and reprojecting scenes in 3D, like have the same person in a shot twice but have the camera orbiting around them.

Since it's using an ESP32, can you enable a BLE feature? I could make a web client that connects to it and enables phone control of the device, which should be a little more user friendly. As well as letting you save profiles for movement.

Anyone operated this project? Is the illustrated 2060 profile extrusion giving smoother / steadier video than 2040?
I ask because I want to convert my slider from 2 x 8mm chrome rods to a single V-slot extrusion. Mostly I see commercial and hobbyists use 2040 profile.
