This was great! I love the editing. I can appreciate the time it takes to make the final cut look that good. First time your channel showed up on my homepage so I’m looking forward to watching your past adventures!
We took a small travel size can of Lysol and a roll of paper towels with us and used it (sparingly) to clean up the room a bit. It wasn't that bad but it made us feel better...
Great Video! Dig The Music. I'm Taking That Train Round Trip from Chicago to New York, and Back, in A Roomette July 2023. Hope to take The Empire Builder Someday. Glad You had fun in Chicago
Oh my goodness! The rooms are so small 😂. At first I said, no way but this is such a unique experience! I'm cracking up. Love this. To bad you couldn't find Harry Potter outfits 😂. Can't wait for part 2 of this experience!
the "bedroom" is much bigger. 🙂 more expensive though. The cheapest option is to just get a seat in coach, but then you don't have the abilty to lie flat, and you don't have a shower, nor your own little space. Plus, you lose the meals included with the ticket for sleeper cars. 🙂 To go a long distance, (like NYC to Chicago or LA to Seattle) typically coach will be like 150 per person, roommette 300 (300 for the room), bedroom 600+ (for the room), family bedroom 1200+. (for the room). I served on submarines in the USN so for me the roommette was a LOT of space. I felt like an officer (I was enlisted). The longest time I ever spent underwater was 87 days. On a submarine, (this is for the Tridents, the ones that carry ICBMs, I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of a nuclear weapon aboard USS Florida), you get a room the size of an office cubicle, but you share it with eight other people. Your only private space is your rack (bed). Three racks stacked on top of each other amidships, three forward, three aft. Officers also get something the size of an office cubicle, but they only have to share it with one or two officers (depending on how many officers we have aboard). 🙂 Seven of the long distance trains have "traditional dining" where you get assigned a seat in the dining car, and the meals are cooked aboard the train. Three per day, all included in the price, if you get the upgraded space (coach seat doesn't get the dining room included, but if there's room you can pay for a meal in there). There have a cafe car too, where you can buy additional food (for coach also). 🙂
I took a viewliner from New York to Mississippi with my mom last year. We were like two sausages in a hotdog bun, but it was still somehow better than coach 😂. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything, as it made me fall in love with trains. You guys did a great job of illustrating the size to help potential travelers who are none the wiser. Plus, your parents seem like a hoot. P.S: I also watched WWDITS on the trip. LOL. Liked & subscribed. Happy & safe travels!
Thats one word for my parents lol. NY to Mississippi! That must have been long! On the same train? Nadja is my favvvvv! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
There are actually two (2) types of Viewliner sleeper car products. The type featured in this video are the older Viewliner I cars. These have no communal bathrooms. There is a communal shower room. The newer Viewliner II cars have communal bathrooms because the roomettes in those cars have no in-room toilet. Bedrooms on both models of sleepers have an en-suite bathroom/shower combo.
And I would have checked bags to Chicago so they would have been out of your way on the first leg of the trip. There's more space for bags on the Superliner cars from Chicago westward.
great question! I'm now going to add this to the description. :) Departed NY on Oct 31 at 3:40pm and arrived to Chicago at 9:50am on Nov 1. So it was about 18hrs in all.
Fun video! Not the first person taking a Viewliner to assume they'll have extra luggage space to squeeze stuff into. I've seen people use to the Superliner's and Viewliner II's extra space make that mistake too when they get on their first Viewliner I car. If you do a similar trip in the future call in early to book your reservation and check to see if they have a "bag dorm" with open roomettes in the back of the train (usually the highest # car in the train). Those cars' roomettes are better because they're: -newer & fancier. Here's a link to someone else's tour of one. ruclips.net/video/7zkVIS-EQoY/видео.html -typically quieter because ~2/3 of the rooms are the train crew. -the back part of the car is the train's luggage compartment, so luggage situations like yours get sorted pretty easily.
Hi! Just wanted to let you know I went back and checked out our ticket info. We Departed NY on Oct 31 at 3:40pm and arrived to Chicago at 9:50am on Nov 1. So it was about 18hrs in all.
Just a shame how much Amtrak. I've looked many times at traveling with them, but for a fmaily of 4, I can just take a nice 7 day all-inclusive cruise for about the same cost as tickets on Amtrak. lol
Second video I've seen that mistakes the new coach seats as "business class." There's only ONE long distance train in the fleet that has business class and that's the Coast Starlight. Those are normal, regular coach seats - the same that's on the Superliners.
@@SheAndHers I enjoyed those seats in coach on the Southwest Chief a month ago. *Super* comfortable and had a very restful sleep. Then again, I had the set all to myself and could stretch out like a boss. Spent 2 nights on the train from Kansas City to LA and loved every minute of it.
Your choice of music is fabulous ❤
Thank you!!! Takes me a while to find the right ones :)
@@SheAndHers I know. That's why I appreciate it so much.

Great idea!
Here’s A even better idea: use antibacterial wipes especially if you get the older view liner roomette. They’re filthy!
Taking my first train ride from NYC to ATL in January. Booked a roomette and I'm loving this video and all the other reviews I've seen. Can't wait!
So fun! You gotta tell me what you think after your trip! I bet the views will be pretty!

getting excited for your train trip!?
WOW ! Very nice your happy visit…. and good luck to your happy new day

Haha! Definitely small, but worth it for the experience! I wanna try again somewhere more scenic!

Thanks for the info! I definitely prefer the in-room bathroom! When we moved on to the superliner I was soo missing the in room toilet!
I took that same route earlier this year and Kwalmi was on my train also!!! VERY nice gentleman!! He wasn't my attendant by he was helpful.
No way!! So cool. He was soooo nice and funny.
I'm finding booking reservations on the Amtrak site confusing... / Not user friendly. Do you have tips on that? Or should I call to make reservations?
We ended up calling them which was kind of a nightmare. On hold for 2hrs :/
And I would have checked bags to Chicago so they would have been out of your way on the first leg of the trip. There's more space for bags on the Superliner cars from Chicago westward.
Agreed!
I rode Albany to NYC before
Hi! Great video! Is this car 4911? I like the in room toilet. Thanks!
Yes, it is!
How long did the train trip take?

Is the second video of the trip loaded? I haven't seen it. Very informative video.
Thanks! Itll be out tomorrow!
Wish I could go back in time and tell you that there's more room on the Superliner! But you'll find that out in the next video. 🙂
Oh man! We felt the total opposite!

Great Tips!! Thanks so much for watching. Will definitely call ahead next time!
All the videos I've watched on this topic and no one ever mentions departure and arrival times.
oh yah! Good point. Maybe we'll start mentioning that kind of thing

You could have done some research before you even booked your trip. So much whining and complaining.
😂 not our style
Can I come with you 😅
the more the merrier!
