If this was the autopilot of an aircraft, this aircraft would be grounded immediately and the manufacturer would have a very serious talk with the FAA.
thank you for doing an actually honest review. going to keep this one in mind if my friends ever talk about self driving cars. i want my friends staying safe
Cool to see someone testing FSD that's not a big account (That tesla tracks and optmize for) and not in a big US city .. FSD is not even close to be robot-taxi anywhere else then Calif.
FSD is amazing except when it isn’t.😂 I have v12.5.2.1 with HW3. In many ways v12.5.x have been regressions IMHO. 12.3 was actually more stable. Thanks for your video.
I pretty much have flawless drives with it. it’s crazy see how it is so bad in some cars. I’m in the Cleveland area. Lane decision is bad sometimes but other than that and not pulling over for emergency vehicles . 😊No problems for me and I just got 12.5 this morning and have only done one drive. I have a hw3 m3.
@@TheTeslapack I’ve had a few drives now with 12.5.2 and mainly I just noticed smoother stop and go. Still makes weird lane decisions in the same spots. I’m guess it more the maps and planner, then what FSD its self is doing but not sure how they work together. It did maneuver around a storm drain in the parking lot tho. I don’t think it’s ever done that before. Like I said I’ve had great drives with it haven’t noticed any regressions only minor improvements.
Mine does stupid stuff once in a blue moon. Sounds like your anxiety level is too high for this lol i think you are just a very defensive driver. I am a little reckless. My biggest complaint is where the is a MIN speed of 40mph sign.... It sees that as the speed limit and slows all the way down.
I really like his videos and his commentary is clear and informative, and I like seeing Toronto driving, but you are correct, watch some of his other videos, even when FSD isn't making any mistakes the dude is SUPER anxious, you'd think the car was about to kill him or something. Even in the beginning of his video when the car is going to run that red, it was doing it while trying to get through a yellow. I get it, it shouldn't run red lights, period, because that's what we expect of robots, however, the AI needs to sometimes break traffic laws in certain contexts (I can go on for a long time on that topic but I'll spare you that right now). For me the jump in performance from 12.3.6 to 12.5.X on HW4 cars makes me really excited for what other jumps in performance might be coming in the next year. I think if they solve lane selection and speed selection (and yes, more caution at yellow-turning-red lights) that we are gong to start seeing people say they haven't disengaged or intervened for weeks or even months at a time. However, these cars need to not make any mistakes that cause an accident for hundreds of thousands of miles so.... that does make me nervous.
@paulhamrick3943 Yea you are watching a FSD newb who is definitely extra anxious! I know im too hard on FSD, one day I hope it's a better driver than all of us! Until then I will be overly defensive when it's activated for all of our safety.
Good documentation. I can see that the planning and lane selection still need improvement. If FSD doesn’t plan correctly, can you signal into the correct lane while keeping FSD engaged to compensate until this behavior improves? This wouldn’t be a full disengagement, so I wonder if that data is logged and contributes to training.
Thanks! Yes you can signal early and even add a bit of accelerator to influence FSD which is great. Definitely FSD needs improvement and honestly I don't think it's worth a subscription at this point
He intervened when it wasn't necessary, it was creeping forward after those pedestrians had passed so that it could get ready to make the right turn once the busses had passed.
If you're having a lot of problems with lane selection, there's a very good chance that your maps are not good. Tesla uses tom tom maps and that's possibly why you don't see big youtubers having issues. In American cities, the maps are probably much more accurate. Tesla might also watch some of the videos and make their own mapping corrections. At 0:41 that is the worst red light running I have seen from the car. My suspicion is that tesla smoothed out FSD and as a way to reduce hard braking, tesla does not slow down for yellow lights that it thinks it can beat. That was nearly 5 seconds in a 50km/h zone which is unnacceptable to try and beat it.
It's a sh!t show for most folks as soon as conditions are a little out of the ordinary. But Elon's fanboys are cherry picking the videos they post (easy drives with no edge cases).
@@TheTeslapack FSD is impressive but nowhere near being ready! Based on the current state of improvement it could be centuries away from regulatory approval
I watched this video and another of your videos and there's a degree of... well, you seem like you have a massively glass-half-empty attitude regarding this technology. That said, you are correct that FSD has not reached full autonomy, but personally after the progress I've seen over the past 9 months, I have no doubt they will achieve full autonomy by... I think the end of 2025. I also think that by the end of this year you'll likely be experiencing perfect drives 95% of the time. They are building out their supercomputers that they train the AI on and they are continuing to improve their training methods, learning as they go because as with many problems that Musk gravitates towards, this has never been done before.

That's the thing. We have to be harsh on FSD because if it's not flawless, it can make us and others un-alive
Dude this is terrifying. Tesla’s promoting it like they are super safe… wtf is going on
Yea right, big reason I bought it was for self driving 😂
Instead of listening to Elon’s Snake Oil salesman promises for FSD, you should better have listened to competent engineers. 🤫
