You literally are the best!!!! I love history and true crime so them combined has me hooked!! I’ve always been so curious in this case. I was so so excited when I saw his was the video for today yayyyyy😘😘🤓
Amazing, I've heard a lot about Lizzy Borden before but never such an indepth look at the story. Poor Abby, I feel so bad for her. There's something kind of funny about you mysteriously changing clothes with a secret story behind it, and then going on to talk about Lizzy mysteriously changing her clothes haha
We don’t deserve you - I have never liked true crime videos where it’s a RUclipsr talking to the camera most of the time and actively avoid those thumbnails and videos. However - the amount of time, research, and detail you craft into every video makes me feel as if I’m stepping into the skins of the people involved in these stories. I can see everything so clearly! Thank you for all that you do!
Aww thank you!!! The thumbnails are basically there just to catch attention, and some of the videos that have eye catching thumbs are more than click bait! I appreciate you being here!
SUNBURST I love you said we don’t deserve her❤️people tend to forget how hard this stuff is- if anyone just clicks around, they can see tons of people attempting to do what comes naturally to Stephanie/ she’s personable- back in the day when there were true reporters- Stephanie could have been an anchorwoman on any news channel- she’s beautiful, and so engaging. I can’t believe I just found her channel
Fun fact, Lizzie was the second weird murder situation in her family tree. In 1673 one of her ancestors named Rebecca Cornell was found burned to death in her room, while her son and his family were allegedly downstairs. Eventually the son, Thomas, was found guilty of murder, mostly bc of the spectral evidence provided by Rebecca’s brother. Very weird, interesting case that helped shape Rhode Island law.
I love the parts where you forget to jump cut (or maybe you leave it in on purpose) and you're just sitting there reading your notes. Makes it feel like I'm sitting across from you and you're reading a story! 😂🥰
lol, you're right women were always feeling faint or fainting in old stories. Maybe because of all of the undergarments and corsets? I tried to wear two layers of spanxx once and it was a really bad idea
Kendall G yea, back then they even had a fainting room. Women had ro wear like 3-4 things under to ‘be respected’. And our corests now are so much different. We are more fitted, and not trying to force having a small waist, where as they had been trying to look smaller, and some were made of whale ribs. Its actually where the first viberator was made, a doctor made it to ‘relax’ his paitence in the fainting room. Im so happy we can just wear a tee shirt and some shorts.
By all historical accounts, corsets weren't that bad actually. Most women didn't wear them that tight since the boning would naturally shape the silhouette so there was no need to pull it tight.
@@glitterlover3244 "Whale bone" corsets weren't made with whale bones, let alone ribs. They were made with baleen, which the whales use to strain out krill and other edibles.
I will say Lizzie correcting police on Abby not being her mother doesn’t seem out of the ordinary to me. I have a horrible stepmother and it triggers me when people call her my mother
I agree with you on this one. My father died when I was 8 and a half years old and I have the most wonderful stepfather. We get along reall well and since he's been my stepfather for over 20 years now, he has been longer in my life than my dad. But I call him by his name and I make it clear he is my stepfather if people get it wrong. It has nothing to do with how I feel about him (because I love him very much), but I feel it's disrespectful to my father to call anyone else "father". I do feel that my stepfather has always been like a father to me and he does feel like a father, but I remember my dad and I want to keep the title "father" as his, if that makes sense :)
Better With The Irish, I completely agree with you!! I was only 5 when Mom died. My sister was only 9 months old. Dad claims he went into a deep depression that lasted 30 years, yeah right. He remarried when I was 7. She was the most vile person. My sis and I were subjected to physical, emotional and verbal abuse. I remember being beat with the heel of her high heels once because I refused to call her mom. Keep in mind that her 2 kids were treated very well. Happy ending when his mom and dad took us with them. Praise God they did!
For what it's worth, a shitty bio-parent sometimes doesn't deserve the name either. If my abusive "father" were murdered tomorrow I'd still refer to him as The Sperm Donor, and I'd be breaking out the champagne because the world was less one vile, woman-abusing predator. My step-dad's been a far better parent than that creature ever was. Blood isn't always thicker than bullshit.
neuralmute This is very true. My husband doesn’t speak to his mother because she’s an abusive, mentally unstable alcoholic. As far as we’re concerned, his stepmom is my real mother-in-law and my daughter’s real grandmother. She doesn’t even care enough about her only grandchild to try and mend fences.
When I was young my Nanna did ancestry and found out I was related to Lizzie Borden on my mothers side. Now me and my boyfriend joke around about keeping hatchets away from me. Lol
Ha, wow...I am related to her too, so does that mean you and I are related to each other? Oh, and the movie made in the '70s about Lizzie Borden starring Elizabeth Montgomery (really good movie btw) : after Ms. Montgomery passed away, it was discovered that she was actually related to Lizzie Borden. Sidenote: Elizabeth Montgomery started in the very popular TV series "Bewitched".
My wife and I listened to this case a bunch of times with various RUclipsrs. Your video included a lot of details neither of us had heard before. Great job. Eagerly waiting for part 2
I love coming back to these older videos. Stephanie, you continue to be an amazing creator. I will always recommend your channel to anyone who loves history/crime. Your level of research and ethics is unparalleled. Love you girl!
My mom cured me of shoplifting at an early age. I had stolen a packet of lifesavers candy and when my mom found out, she marched my little butt right back to the store and made me go to the shop owner and apologise and pay for what I had stolen. I thought I was gonna die of shame and enbarassment.
"Rosie, you're drinking incredibly loudly." *Me watching this video, drinking my green tea.* WELL I NEVER (My name is Rosalie/Rose/Rosie. Just realised it doesn't show up... haha)
I was born and raised in Fall River, right down the street from Lizzie Borden's house. I remember when I was in high school, we had a mock trial of this case in our law class, and because I was so adamant she was guilty, I got to be her defense attorney. As I researched the case, I don't believe she did it, but I believe she knows who did. I am so glad you decided to choose this case!
I don't want to ruin anything if it's mentioned in Part 2, but Lizzie and Emma had a half-brother who Andrew had written out of the will - someone who would be angry enough to murder if Lizzie might have offered part of the inheritance....
@Lily Slipcast She stood to inherit NOTHING. Their father hadn't provided for them, if Andrew had died first everything would have gone to Abbie's family.
My boyfriend and I have been to the house numerous times as it’s just a few minutes from us in Fall River. The house itself is demonic. It has such a heavy, ominous feel (especially in the attic.) The land and the home have a lot of dark history prior to the deaths at the Borden home. If you’re ever in the area it’s worth stopping by, the tour guides are so dedicated to their job. And if you have the time and money you can spend the night since it’s a bed and breakfast. The owners of the home have worked hard to keep the house looking almost identical to when the murders took place.
Another thought: marriages of convenience rather than love were so common back then. Andrew probably remarried simply to have someone to take care of the children and home. I'm sure Abbie was part of that decision making process. My great grandmother passed away giving birth to my grandfather and his twin brother on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic. My great grandfather married her sister after they got to the U.S. because he knew he couldn't take care of his boys by himself. She took good care of the family and homestead, but it was common knowledge that their relationship was a business relationship rather than romantic.
I think sleeping with dead bodies in the house would not shock them in those days in the way it shocks us now. I think it was common to leave a dead person in the house till funeral. I might be wrong though. Same about sleeping in a bed that belonged to a dead couple. People used to inherit beds, so a few generations would be born and would die in the same bed.
Yes, you are correct. The bodies would be placed in the casket in the sitting room and visitors would come to pay their respects. Typically, in many families, someone would sit with the body throughout the night and pray. The body was never "left alone" up until the time of the funeral. Some counties/towns still allow this practice, especially if the burial will take place in the family cemetery (typically farms or places in the country).
@@NageelaMom yes, my father stayed with the body of his friend for the night until the funeral the next day. My cousin is a mortician and makes certain that anytime he has a Jewish client, there is always someone available to remain with the family overnight until the funeral the next day (he also does not charge them extra for this service. My father made sure my cousin understood this custom since my father's friend had been a Rabbi and even though we are Christian we respect and recognize the Jewish customs and holidays).
I know this is a little different than your normal murder mysteries, but have you ever thought about covering Bonnie and Clyde ?? I LOVE all things historical as well, and just would love to hear your take and perspective on a case like that! ❤
I personally subscribe to the theory that Lizzie's sister, Emma, is the killer. Her whereabouts on the morning of the murders (supposedly visiting friends) was never officially verified beyond her friends saying she stayed there. She had cause to want Abby & her father dead. She also had cause to need them to die in the very order they did, even if just by a few minutes. Had Andrew died first, his estate would have passed to Abby and that possibility might actually have entitled her family (that slightly impoverished sister you mentioned) to some money, as her beneficiaries. In order for that not to even be a possibility, she had to pre decease him, which she did. Later in life, Emma was known to keep an axe in a glass case, by a staircase, with a light always shining on it. "One night," she told the maiden sisters she lived with as an elderly woman, "they will come for me." Who could she have been referring to?
If you read how Lizzie was treated you can see how that can cause Lizzie to act out, she wasn’t favored in the family because her father didn’t really treat her right I kinda wonder why mr Borden didn’t treat her nicely and love her like he should’ve like why did Lizzie get left out of things? There’s a reason why but I don’t know what it could be
So the friends she visited were in on it? Knew Emma killed them? Idk bout that. Many theories. Emma did it,the maid and Abby, the uncle,Lizzy herself. The less ppl know the better.
Yeah im not buying that. She had a pretty good alibi. Lizzie has virtually none and had access to both murder victims at time of crimes and so much contradictory answers she gave in testimonies. Lizzie did it
I thought I’d be bored of this story bc I’ve heard it a thousand times. But you reminded me how fascinating this case is!!! And how thorough you were!! Good job!!
I worked in a piercing and tattoo shop for a while when I was in school, and I have the (informal and observational) goods. Dudes act more macho and some girls will show more fear, but overall women complain less and guys whine more. FACTS.
Re: the mysterious behavior of Lizzie in the cellar, I can see one way it could be benign. Playing the devil's advocate: what if she DIDN'T kill her dad and stepmom, and the stuff in the toilet bucket downstairs WAS menstrual rags? How embarrassing for a woman of any time, but perhaps especially of that time, to know that her dirty private things were lying around for a bunch of strange men to see! If I'm having my period and forget to flush the toilet, I'm horrified to think of housemates of guests seeing it. And people in shock DO have a tendency to obsess about the mundane, as a kind of anchor. So if she were innocent, she could have been humiliated by this literal dirty laundry lying around, and she wouldn't want anyone else but her to take care of it. For the record, I don't think she was innocent, but I wouldn't want people to assume that her behavior in that one instance was sure proof of guilt, since I could easily imagine any woman, innocent or guilty, behaving the same.
@@angiebear8727 Me being a woman if I'm on my period I don't wear light blue or pink for fears of a accident and Lizzie used rags I just wouldn't take that chance and I don't think she would either.
@@TheT151 I get what you are saying and yup I do the same. No light colors on my bottom half for about a week a month, lol, but can’t speak for every woman.
Lizzie made have hated cats because she was a bird lover and knew that cats kill birds. Yes, she loved dogs and birds but the stories about her killing cats could be true. A lot of people who love dogs hate cats.
Greed is the number one reason for murder. Lizzie did it. After dear old dad died she lived out her life in one of those houses on the hill that she coveted so much. She tried to set the stage for murder with all the stomach problems. Yes she was close to her dad but it's estimated that 1 in 11 of us are sociopathic. If she wanted it bad enough, I can see her doing it no problem. In the end, it's like Jack The Ripper - we'll never really know. But I strongly believe Lizzie did it. If not her, then who? She and Emma were never really that close anymore because of Lizzie's spending habits with Arthur's money.
It doesn't matter how much I think I know about the content..Nobody tells it like you do! I appreciate the details and the hard work that you put into our stories. Also love how your family life gets peppered into the videos...btw your hair looks amazing today
Speaking as someone with hydrocephalus, who had it brought on as a result of having had a brain tumor, and having scar tissue building up in my brain, I hate hearing about any child dealing with hydrocephalus!!! I haven’t had a headache-free day in what will be 10 years in November, and I have a shunt, which helps with the pressure. I can’t imagine what that poor baby went through, most likely without a shunt!
The shoplifting triggered a memory, I was about 8 years old and took a pack of Hostess cupcakes from the corner store, my mum found out WELL LET ME TELL YOU she didn’t pay for them she took me to the store and I had to confess to the owner and pay for them. I never took anything again, I’m 70 years old and still never took anything
That's how my mom is..she is definitely old school. She would make me do the same thing your mom made you do. She is close to your age...just 3 years younger.
My mom did something similar, though in my case I took pieces of pretty cloth from a quilt store. I'm only forty, but I am very careful to this day to even avoid LOOKING like I might be taking something!😊
Similar. I took a pack of gum. My gramma found out and took me back to the corner store to confess. She didn’t pay for it, and since I was only 8 and obviously had no money, the store owner had me sweep the back room for and hour to pay my debt. My gramma taught me a valuable lesson on the way home. She told me that when you take something that doesn’t belong to you, it doesn’t make it yours, it just makes it stolen. And for as long as you have it, it will never be yours. It will never be ANYTHING but stolen. 56 and I still think about that.
Fun fact regarding the maids name. It was very common in the Victorian Era for the lady of the house to rename the maid. Either because like Stephanie said she could not be bothered to learn a new name; or because she thought the maid's given name was not appropriate for a domestic to have. For example if you had the given name of Margot, your employer may have thought that sounded "too French" and would have called you Maggie. Margot would just have had to put up with it if she wanted to keep her job.
I also thought it might have been some kind of slight against her being Irish as there was still prejudice toward the Irish at the time. Sort of like if they had a black servant, calling him Toby or something. The Borden sisters seemed like they'd be into bitchy jokes.
"Maggie" was a frequent generic nickname given to female Irish servants particularly in the Boston area. People frequently referred to their Irish servant girls as "our Maggie."
It's little facts like these that make you wonder how we ended up with the society we know today and it's just never going to stop amazing me to find these little tidbits about what craziness people endured. I wonder what the version of our time's weird quirks.
Stephanie, I agree with you that Lizzie was probably just setting the stage, with her eerie feelings about something happening to her father. However, some people do have premonitions and feelings about things. My late sister Pam was like that. Back in the early 80s she lived next door to a married couple. One night, in the middle of the night the police came knocking, waking her and her family up, wanting to know if they'd heard anything, because the man next door had just murdered his wife with what they thought was an axe! They found out later that it was actually the claw end of a hammer. My sister told the cops that this must be why she'd had such bad forebodings all day. But, none of them, her and her family, had heard anything. The officer mentioned they hadn't been able to find the weapon. My sister asked him, "Don't they have a refrigerator in their garage?" When told they did, my sister said for them to look in or around the refrigerator. She just had a "feeling" that that's where he'd hide it. Guess where they found it??? The garage had a drop ceiling, where the ceiling is a bunch of squares, that you can push on and they open up and you can see inside, above the ceiling. Anyway, the square, right above the fridge had the hammer sitting on the inside of it! My mom warned my sister to stop talking to them or they might think she was involved! Lol! Of course, she wasn't! That was just Pam! She was eleven years older than me, and I was always more worried about not being able to fool her than ever I was of my mother! Lol! It was like having two moms! Sorry for the rant, but I thought you might enjoy that story! Great vid, BTW!

This is so weird. Another case that is literally 15mins away from where I live. I have always been so fascinated with this case. I have gone on the tour they turned the house into. Super interesting. What a great case.
What preceded Lizzie not calling Abby mother any more was Andrew let some relative of Abby's live in a house he owned. He apparently would not let his daughters do that. When he allowed that, was when Lizzie stopped calling Abby "Mother."
The thing that keeps coming back to me is how did she have ZERO blood on her? think about these murders and HOW MUCH blood will go like hell everywhere!
I cut away from a video I was in the middle of watching to get over here and check this out! Out of everyone I watch you are the one I look forward most to getting the new video notification. And since I’ve seen so many renditions if the story about Lizzie already, that’s saying something. I really can’t wait to see your take on it!

Quick note on Ring Around the Rosie, or Ring-a Ring-o Roses, it's not about the Great Plague. The theory was put out there in the mid-20th century that it was about the Great Plague of London in the 1660's, but folklore experts have found it to be baseless because it doesn't describe the symptoms of the plague and they've classified it as an urban legend. Like, the line about "they all fall down" the theory states is they all die, but experts say that would have been in reference to curtsying or bowing as part of the dance kids do with it. No need to fear, it's not about death. They think it's just an old silly rhyme that has changed a lot over time, since the tune was first documented in the 18th century and the closest thing to the rhyme we know wasn't penned until a century later. Even then, the rhyme has changed a lot since that first semi-recognizable rhyme.
elmoiswatchingyou See, I’ve heard differently. I took a course which touched largely on flower/herb medicinal uses and lore. We were taught the “Ring around the roses” part was in reference to the flowers and herbs they would pile on/around plague victims, also how they were burned in big piles in the street in hard hit areas (“ashes, ashes”) - both bc of smell but also bc they believed it purified the area. Perfumers would often escape plague effects, led to many of these beliefs. Now we know many of these plants have antiseptic properties. Nor that we’ll ever really know 100% where these rhymes come from, but it’s always interesting to talk about. ☺️
You are right I have been pointing this out to people for years. The Ring a Ring O' Roses / Great Plague story was invented by an Oxford University academic in 1956 in a spoof article for the Oxford magazine. I think the English newspapers picked up on it and printed it as if it was true. Probably during the summer "silly season" when there is a lack of political news thus is an urban legend born. It persists because some Nursery Rhymes do refer to actual events - Goosey Goosey Gander is almost certainly about the persecution of Catholics in 17th century England.
TheDativeCase Right but how much is spoof, making things up - and how much is taking mythology and expounding on it? Turning it into an article? B/c many legends have a kernel of truth. We see that with a lot of the medieval chroniclers repeating stories that were passed down, like the mythos around King Arthur. I’ll dig up some of my old textbooks & see what I can find on this. Interesting stuff.
wasn't he acquitted? that's not the same as not guilty it just means the case was too messed up and had to be let go or thrown out no? do I remember this wrong?
I have only just discovered your channel and I've got to say you're one of the only true crime channels I can watch. I love that you go into so much detail and humanize the victims of the stories you cover x good job!
Anyone else picturing two cops standing next to a violently mutilated corpse, looking scandalized and horrified that period blood had been mentioned? "Good lord, Charles, Ive never been more shocked in my life".
The house is a bed and breakfast, which is so so cool. I have stayed there! The tour is a delight, and it’s really neat to hear what the staff thinks what happened.
Admittedly I opted for a room way upstairs near Bridget’s because it was cheaper, and thus ultimately known for not having any spooks. The barn in the back (unsure if it’s THE pigeon barn or something remodeled) is the gift shop, where I got some hatchet earrings and a magnet of Papa Borden’s autopsy photo. 10/10 At the least, I can confirm you were correct about which staircases led to which bedrooms. 😂 Rachida, you can pay for a guided tour during the day or you can stay overnight and do the guided tour before going to bed. There’s something really cool about doing the tour at night and then inspecting copies of old files in their sitting room after.
MiguelMaxOficial, I don’t want to say it doesn’t feel scary at night just because it wasn’t for me. I imagine it is much scarier for folks sleeping in rooms where people had been killed. The tour guides also talk about sort of other worldly experiences reported by previous guests per room, so that makes laying your head down at night in one of those rooms a little tougher. It was a spooky old house with a notorious history, but I can say I slept really soundly on the third floor away from any reported crime or ghost drama.
You should look at the kidnapping and escape (after 7 years) of Steven Stayner . Then his brother (Cary Stayner) became a serial killer in Yosemite park. Ive always wondered how Steven stayner’s kidnapping had an affect on his brother Cary Stayner. It’s such an interesting case. I remember watching the coverage on tv with my mother when I was young. We watched that famous movie together “ I know my first name is Steven” . She has since passed away but she was always my true crime buddy even when I was young.☺️
I remember that show and than to hear that about his brother was just crazy. The young man ( steven) who was kidnapped died in a car accident in his his early 20's I believe
Andrew feels unwell: comes home early, reads his newspaper, goes for a nap. Bridget feels unwell: Ordered to clean every window in the house, inside and out!
My mother is a tour guide at the Lizzie Borden house! If you and Nev ever want to spend a night at the house or Maplecroft before it’s sold please let us know! We would love to have you.
SO EXCITED about this video!! I'm a huge history buff too. Stephanie, you should totally do a video someday on the Princes in the Tower murder mystery, it's super old (it's medieval!!) and I don't think the main suspect actually did it, but maybe you'll feel differently! It's spooky and fun though, it's almost folklore at this point!
I live about 10 minutes away from the Borden and I’ve done the tour a couple of times. It’s actually pretty cool, they have it set up like it looked the day of the murders with period furniture and the table set up like it would have been for that days lunch. It’s like you’re going back in time.

I loved your take on this mystery. A few things I learned over my 48 years that I always thought were true were that her father wasnt a scrooge matter of fact he was very generous and spent most on daughters to have best boks , tailored clothes , sent lizzie on a very long trip , bought and converted a home for his family and also purchased most of the street they lived on and moved some friends and family into houses he purchased. Anyway I look forward to hearing more of your stories. Your voice is perceived for listening .

I live 20 minutes from the house where the murder happened and my husband and I have toured the house. It definitely has an eerie feel and we are very big Lizzie Borden history buffs and we even have Lizzie Borden memorabilia including a letter post marked from back then that was sent to her with her photo on it. You definitely did this story justice with the amount of knowledge you have told.
This was most well done video on Lizzie Borden I've ever seen! I know so much history about this case, usually videos fall short of my expectations, but you were spot on! I spent a night at the Borden House in 2015 with my husband. We stayed in Lizzie's parents room!
About the maid's name- Brigid is a very common Irish name, and it could have been that there were multiple Brigids in the same family, so some of them were called by other names, such as Maggie or Mary. It doesn't always relate to the base name- I know a woman next door called Peg by her friends and family, but her christened name is May, and another beside my Grandfather called Cora, whose actual name is Aileen.
my grandma was called celine and some people called her barb (which is a regional term in lancashire where she came from) and others called her jill. I have no idea where jill came from at all. I grew up calling her grandma jill xxx
It has been said somewhere that Lizzie and Emma called her Maggie because that was a maid before Briget and they simply were being rude calling her Maggie ...meaning she wasn't even allowed respect of her own name ..only the father and step mother called her Brigid
This is such an interesting case! The reason why the Borden family was so strict with keeping all the doors locked, is because of the "burglary" a couple of years before the murders would eventually happen. That's when they started to keep all their doors locked all the time because Andrew did not want any more things taken frol him.
I just had to come back to this video to comment on how phenomenally you reported this story!!! I recently got going with Audible (ironically after your raving about the sponsor). I just finished the Lizzie Borden chapters in "The Cases That Haunt Us" from author and FBI profiler John Douglas. Your work has again superseded with great accuracy!!! So glad we found your channel!!!

You're incredible, Stephanie!!
You should do the case on Juliet Holme and Pauline Parker. They were two young girls from new zealand who killed one of their mothers. It’s really interesting there’s also a movie on with Kate Winslet called Heavenly Creatures
Carlie Im new to this video but she did do a 3 parter on those girls and it’s to this day my favorite videos I’ve watched of Stephanie’s! I hope you’ve watched or will soon!!!!
yay! A new Mystery Monday! I've been throwing up all night (we're working on diagnosing why I can't stop vomitting) and this is the perfect distraction to help me feel better. Plus I get to see stephanie's beautiful face
Stephanie Harlowe oh no Stephanie!!! Hoping you’re all better soon ♥️Youve got such dedication 💪🔥Yes there seems to be two different bugs going around in my area.🖤 (changed my screen name, i was flea)
I almost didn't watch this segment because I thought I knew most of what there was to know about the Lizzie Borden case. But you proved me wrong. You're one of the best true-crime reporters and storytellers on RUclips. Bravo.
I feel so sad for Abbie. She seems like a kind woman who just wanted to be a good mother, and all her best efforts were crushed. I can’t imagine the pain Abbie must have felt in later years looking back at the good times she had with Lizzie while Emma was away at school. 😓
So I have a couple of questions. When Lizzie discovered her father hacked to death, she calls for the maid, she calls for the doctor and she calls for a friend....but notice who she DOESN'T call. NOT ONCE do I hear you say Lizzie summoned the police (which would seem a logical thing to do, if you found your parents murdered with an ax, no? Call the police to have them investigate the murder and protect YOU, just in case the murderer comes back to finish the job or do a thorough search of the house and property to make sure the killer is gone) Also, they postulate that Abby was murdered first, and it was an hour and a half to two hours later that Lizzie's father was murdered. They keep asking LIZZIE why she didn't hear anything....so if her father was still alive when the murderer killed Abby, why didn't HE hear this and come to investigate? How is it that the maid, Maggie, was also upstairs (resting, but NOT fully asleep) and SHE doesn't hear the parents being murdered or any suspicious noises? Wouldn't Abby have been crying out in pain or screaming when she was hacked to death? Wouldn't she have heard the body fall to the floor?
Hey Stephanie! A man Andre McDonald a Air Force major was just arrested after his wife disappeared on Friday. Police took him into custody after finding evidence that he could of been involved in her disappearance and possibly murder. they found an ax, shovel, heavy duty trash bags and two five-gallon jugs of gasoline inside their Texas home. Police also think he destroyed the receipt I was hoping you could cover the case like the Watts case. This is turning to be really sad and hits hard sense I live in Texas so it hits home. I really enjoy your channel and love true crime thanks!
I just LOVE her demeanor in court. One word answers, answering with questions, limiting information, she hardly ever slipped up and let out something personal. The girl was well trained, or a genius.
We didnt have places for autopsies then. Autopsies were done on location of death or at the individuals home. Lincolns autopsy was actuslly done in the white house.
this also reminded me of the movie " the others " because of the old timey feel and the constant door locking plus the bizarre awkwardness that's always in the atmosphere and the curiousness of never knowing what's really happened.
There are more important things in life than material things. Family and friends are priceless. It’s nice to buy things but you don’t have to just because you can.
I may be wrong but during that time period I think "maggie" was sort of a slang term used for all irish women - the irish weren't well liked in America in the old days lol there was a lot of snobbery going on! Awesome show as usual, keep em coming Stephanie!!!
F is a great idea for a new place to work with you and I miss u so much and I will be in love with you and I miss u so much and I will be in a good way and I am not sure if you remember the best place to go to the next one is a great place to start and then we can go over it and if so how much it will take to see you 😊😀☺😄😉❤😊😀
Does anyone else feel like Bridgette is lying? She was told to clean the windows when she was sick, and she happened to not hear anything while two people were murdered and Lizzie was outside? It’s also super convenient to blame a juvenile who’s already known to steal.
Chills chills chills. Again, I've heard most of these true crime stories multiple times but you are such a great story teller and so detailed! I learn something new every time!
B is a good idea for a new place to work with you and I miss u too baby and I hope you can help me to make the most sense if I am able to get to know each of the United States 🇺🇸🇺🇲😊
Stephanie! You need to come to Fall River! I lived there for nearly 20 years! The bed and breakfast is fascinating, so is the historical society. It's really something to be in the actual rooms the murders too place in. The guides have so much knowledge too. It's great.
....who else is spoiled by stephanie's depth of knowledge, commitment to the facts and length of each video? litterally no one else comes close to the amount of effort she puts in.
Did her mom have miscarriages I ask because it took my parents 4 or 5 years to have me after they married and they started from the word go but they just had dead babies for a while till me?
@@StephanieHarlowe They didn't always record events like miscarriages in the 19th c. because they would have been "improper" to mention, especially in the American middle classes, where propriety was extremely important! But even the description of her cause of death ("congestion of the womb?") sounds like a historical euphamism for death during a miscarriage to me. I'd guess that she had more than just that one.
@@neuralmute I was thinking the same thing. I do believe "congestion of the womb" actually was a reference to a hemorrhage secondary to miscarriage, if I remember correctly. They did not do D&C's after miscarriages in those days, so it was quite common for this to be an issue after multiple miscarriages. So many years between each child has to lead one to wonder.
Stephanie tells these stories so well I literally can picture it in detail in my head , even when it’s in the 1800s . Her breakdowns are what gets me through work . One day I spent majority of my day listening to the Casey Anthony story. And now I’ve watched it about 5 times and I still find out something new each time. She’s the only RUclips I can sit down and watch literally every video whether it’s an like 3 hours long without even having to see pictures and stuff and stuff, usually I have to see pictures to pictures it more . She should really start writing books
T T to the world of America and to the hotel and got love in a hurry for a new job and that is a great place for the world to me is to be able to get a good feel for the way you look for the next two weeks and we are going on vacation to the office today to take care of our house for a few days and
Wow! I’m only a few minutes in but I can tell I am going to love this. I’ve heard and read about Lizzie Borden probably for more years than you’ve been alive (I’m old) but already you have given me so much new and interesting information about this case. A+++ research!!
Guys I am going to be replying to your comments soon, I am just editing Part 2 so it's up by tomorrow!
Stephanie Harlowe thanks for all your hard work ♥️
woohoo! you keep me company during my days of university thesis work :) looking forward to watching part 2!
You literally are the best!!!! I love history and true crime so them combined has me hooked!! I’ve always been so curious in this case. I was so so excited when I saw his was the video for today yayyyyy😘😘🤓
Thank you so much❣️
Amazing, I've heard a lot about Lizzy Borden before but never such an indepth look at the story.
I agree, Stephanie's research is carried out with scrupulous attention to detail, I just enjoy listening and watching her videos.
Totally agree!
I agree her strory telling skills are unmatched from what i have seen. She really takes you to that place and paints a clear picture
OJ and Casey Anthony were found innocent too 🤷🏽♀️
Found not guilty. That's not the same as innocent
Same thing, they weren’t found guilty, so people obviously think they are innocent
Actually not guilty. Innocent is not the same legally.
@bonniewcarlson Agree.
oJ is innocent, not his son though
I love the parts where you forget to jump cut (or maybe you leave it in on purpose) and you're just sitting there reading your notes. Makes it feel like I'm sitting across from you and you're reading a story! 😂🥰
Haha I know right!
I though she was getting emotional. About to cry. But I read these comments to see about that.
@@moongds8269 I thought that too
I really like that too!
I had to turn my phone screen on and see if she was pullin funny faces 😂😂😂
lol, you're right women were always feeling faint or fainting in old stories.
DismalTrix I dont blame them, hell they didnt think we could feel anything during sex. Might as well use those.
By all historical accounts, corsets weren't that bad actually. Most women didn't wear them that tight since the boning would naturally shape the silhouette so there was no need to pull it tight.
😂 amen!! I did that once at a wedding; could barely eat a thing
Better With The Irish if she was just murdered though!!? 😂 girl, you’re savage 😘
Lol
Ooooh, how are you related to her? That is so interesting!
That is AWESOME
Thats pretty cool
I knew some Bordens in a city about 15-20 min away from Fall River, but I never thought to ask if they were related.......
Ha, wow...I am related to her too, so does that mean you and I are related to each other?
Oh, and the movie made in the '70s about Lizzie Borden starring Elizabeth Montgomery (really good
movie btw) : after Ms.
Thanks, Harry!
Women’s corsets were so tight they had trouble breathing.

I am so glad you decided to choose this case!
catadhernandez her Uncle perhaps? Or could she have had help? Either from her Uncle or Bridget
I don't want to ruin anything if it's mentioned in Part 2, but Lizzie and Emma had a half-brother who Andrew had written out of the will - someone who would be angry enough to murder if Lizzie might have offered part of the inheritance....
I don't understand why the maid ( Bridget ) isn't looked at more..
@Lily Slipcast She stood to inherit NOTHING. Their father hadn't provided for them, if Andrew had died first everything would have gone to Abbie's family.
There was absolutely no evidence that anyone else did it...

WOW never thought of it, but your right.
@@Meredith471 Jewish practice is still to never leave the body alone. But not in the home
MK Lonestar Handcrafted in my country we still have this costume.
@@EGMADH I think it is a great tradition. I wish more countries would follow this custom.
I know this is a little different than your normal murder mysteries, but have you ever thought about covering Bonnie and Clyde ?? I LOVE all things historical as well, and just would love to hear your take and perspective on a case like that! ❤
YES!!
I love the Bonnie and Clyde story!
Not sure for how long but at one point my grand father drove for them...well so he told me lol
Clyde Barrow was a cousin of my grandmas lol. It’s interesting to see information about him in our family book.
OMG Yes!!!
Good job!!

Yo fiatsdgg hitdwj
Good point. Never thought of that but it does make sense from a woman’s perspective; which men, especially at that time, wouldn’t have considered.

Lizzie made have hated cats because she was a bird lover and knew that cats kill birds. Yes, she loved dogs and birds but the stories about her killing cats could be true. A lot of people who love dogs hate cats.
Animals are pure & innocent, they do nothing with willful intent to harm innocence w. Premeditation , the only monsters that exist are HUMAN
@@roccocatalano1773 That is correct.
Who's Arther?
No, Lizzie had no motive.
Emma and Lizzie do not fall out over her spending habits until much later in life.

I have the same story from when I was four but I stole pretty buttons

I'm walking to school while listening to this. It's great how you can learn things even when you aren't in history class. Thank you, Stephanie. 😊

What preceded Lizzie not calling Abby mother any more was Andrew let some relative of Abby's live in a house he owned. He apparently would not let his daughters do that. When he allowed that, was when Lizzie stopped calling Abby "Mother."
Police:: ”Miss. Borden, what’s your alibi?...”
Lizzie:: “Eating pears and looking for lead in a barn.”
The thing that keeps coming back to me is how did she have ZERO blood on her? think about these murders and HOW MUCH blood will go like hell everywhere!

Even then, the rhyme has changed a lot since that first semi-recognizable rhyme.
good to know!
elmoiswatchingyou
See, I’ve heard differently.
TheDativeCase
Right but how much is spoof, making things up - and how much is taking mythology and expounding on it? Turning it into an article? B/c many legends have a kernel of truth. We see that with a lot of the medieval chroniclers repeating stories that were passed down, like the mythos around King Arthur. I’ll dig up some of my old textbooks & see what I can find on this. Interesting stuff.
It's about the plague

I have only just discovered your channel and I've got to say you're one of the only true crime channels I can watch. I love that you go into so much detail and humanize the victims of the stories you cover x good job!
Anyone else picturing two cops standing next to a violently mutilated corpse, looking scandalized and horrified that period blood had been mentioned? "Good lord, Charles, Ive never been more shocked in my life".
The house is a bed and breakfast, which is so so cool. I have stayed there! The tour is a delight, and it’s really neat to hear what the staff thinks what happened.
did you see any ghosts?
Admittedly I opted for a room way upstairs near Bridget’s because it was cheaper, and thus ultimately known for not having any spooks. The barn in the back (unsure if it’s THE pigeon barn or something remodeled) is the gift shop, where I got some hatchet earrings and a magnet of Papa Borden’s autopsy photo. 10/10
At the least, I can confirm you were correct about which staircases led to which bedrooms. 😂
Rachida, you can pay for a guided tour during the day or you can stay overnight and do the guided tour before going to bed. There’s something really cool about doing the tour at night and then inspecting copies of old files in their sitting room after.
Does it feel like a scary place at night?
MiguelMaxOficial, I don’t want to say it doesn’t feel scary at night just because it wasn’t for me. I imagine it is much scarier for folks sleeping in rooms where people had been killed. The tour guides also talk about sort of other worldly experiences reported by previous guests per room, so that makes laying your head down at night in one of those rooms a little tougher. It was a spooky old house with a notorious history, but I can say I slept really soundly on the third floor away from any reported crime or ghost drama.
What do the staff think happened?

I feel so sad for Abbie. She seems like a kind woman who just wanted to be a good mother, and all her best efforts were crushed. I can’t imagine the pain Abbie must have felt in later years looking back at the good times she had with Lizzie while Emma was away at school. 😓

Oh hell yes. You keep delivering what we need! Praise be!
Did you ever tell the “long story” about your wardrobe change? I’m so curious 😆

Did her mom have miscarriages I ask because it took my parents 4 or 5 years to have me after they married and they started from the word go but they just had dead babies for a while till me?
I don't know, there is no record of it, but possible
