to be honest even though you put a gasket on, it can still leak. A very slim bead of RTV under the gasket works wonders and I have never had a leak. I'm a mechanic as well and I guess we all have different thought processes.
to be honest, properly assembled as they should be without sealant installed dry they rarely leak at all. ever. sealant not neccessary to ensure a leakfree seal. Considering how high quality these machines are, if Yamaha felt that sealant was neccessary they would have sealed them from the factory, nevertheless this EXCESS sealant was EXTREME! this was a leaky mess. period.
I might have dropped one of the clutch cover shaft bearing in the pan .. i might but damn i'm not sleeping at night thinking it might be in there... I'm thinking it's too big to clog the oil passages but i would like to drop the pan and see, do you have the removal video ? that would be so helpful :) thanks
I like good information an i could tell soon as you started talking you know what you're talking about i have a question i just got a 05 r1 the guy said nothing wrong with the bike 2 days into having it i decided to start tinkering with it what i found was the oil fill cap and timing chain window cap where covered in snotty thick cream oil and its all on the inside of the clutch cover case oil you can see in the sight glass doesn't look bad but im in fear of whats going on im assuming oil/water pump
water pump is a possibility on that one. i would repeatedly change the oil and see if it reappears. its possible it could just be condensation due to improper storage.
So I was doing a oil change on my 04 r1 and when I put the drain bolt back on it wouldn’t tighten and when I took it out I seen metal shavings on the bolt from that came from screwing it on when it wouldn’t tighten. What do you suggest I do plsss
Order a new pan and bolt, a new gasket, and do this. After you’ve installed them, pour oil slowly into the filling hole until you don’t see anymore shavings.

Some may reuse them. Gaskets are cheap compared to a repeat failure or an oil leak. You will never look back and say " I wish I hadn't fixed my bike right"
@@patrickscycleshop one fell out when I was replacing the gasket and I didn’t notice so now it’s gone but I guess I’ll bite the bullet and wait a little longer for one to come in from a dealer. Just wanted to get the bike going sooner otherwise I wouldn’t question putting them back in if I had it
You probaly would never see this but i have a 03 speed triple and took it to the dealership because it was leaking oil they said the oil pan is cracked and it would be 900$ to fix, would it be possible to bring the bike home and replace the oil pan my self? or is this to much of a challenge.
That depends on if you can get the pan and the gasket. You might be able to just remove the exaust and swap it out. or you might have to take the radiator out so you can get the exaust off so you can swap it out. In any case it's not super hard it just might take a bit of time.
There is one fairing bolt that goes into the oil pan when i remove it the oil starts leaking fron the bolt hole! Any idea if that is normal or am i missing something here?

If I lost one of the dowel pins. Can I get away with just the one?
The dowel pins are designed to keep the cover from shifting. I would not skip that important part.

oh no! someone put a bolt in too long and broke the oil pan.

If the sleeping dog is not leaking, I would leave it alone. If it looks like this one, I would definitely fix it.
