Spyderco Caribbean Sheepsfoot. The LC200N steel is maybe only a little tougher than some other stainless steels are, but it is super rust-resistant and the Compression Lock is very strong.
Hey Dave. Have you ever seen a knife branding of a standing lion in a chevron emblem I'd guess you'd call it. Looks a lot like the English royal family's crest. No writing on it except the emblem. For whatever reason I can't find a way to take and send you a Pic. Been trying to figure it out for years. Love the show and thanks
I have recently started carrying fixed blades and as a stage hand this is more than acceptable, however I also like to wear a suit so what would be a good gentleman's fixed blade?
I didn't see last week's on the knife for snow scraping or I would have suggested looking at diver's knives, particularly with blunt tip, titanium fixed blade. Since these are made to be under water, and able to stand up to cold water when diving to 100 feet or more, the wet snow environment would not be a problem. Being a skier and a diver, myself, a folding knife could easily bind up due to the wet and cold right when you need it the most, especially if you are skiing in snow like California's "Sierra Cement", but the Spyderco Pacific Salt 2 and Aqua Lung Big Squeeze Knife are folders specifically made for divers and a wet, cold environment. Scubapro Mako would be a good example of what I would suggest for a fixed-blade knife and I would use it with a cross-draw sheath. There are many diver's knives that would do the job. I bought mine over 20 years ago, so I couldn't even find the ones I have, but maybe your knife suppliers can suggest others.
Greetings DCA and the good folk of KnifeCenter (regards to Thomas behind the camera). I really enjoy KniFAQ, particularly the segments in which you suggest blades to fit various parameters. My favorite blade shape is the spear point (Kephart style in fixed blades). Some of my favorite edc folders in circulation at the moment are the Kabar Dozier, and the QSP Parrot. The so-called “drop point” on the Boker+ Atlas Backlock has just about the perfect profile. Would love to hear recommendations for other edc folders in this vein. Locking blade (any lock mechanism except framelock), 3” - 4” blade length, pocket clip is a bonus, price point sweet-spot between $40 - $80, but don’t mind paying more for something special. I recall Seth mentioning spear points are his favorite blade shape (I believe he was wielding an actual spear at the time) so perhaps he may have some insight as well.
Hi! I have a blue WE Elementum, and I love its simple lines, rock-solid blade and especially the smoothness of the titanium to the touch. I really like the WE Seer, as a larger option to the Elementum, but I wanted to know if the feel in hand is similar to the Elementum, especially the smoothness of the handle. Thank you very much!
FAQ Question: If you could cover the backdrop of the set with edged tool's from Knife Center's inventory, which items would you chose? And why haven't you done it yet? Give us some eye candy on that bland wall! We all know the Carcass Splitter needs a home.
For the ski instructor, my mind went to the SOG Flash AT. Affordable, assisted opening, and with a safety, all with an Axis-esque crossbar. I feel like the new SOG lineup is so underrated.
For me its the Artisan Cutlery Small Archaeo. Its got a very pokey blade tip and with my large hands and the double detent action, I've launched the tip into my misplaced fingers one too many times. One time I got the tip wedged into my finger in a way that I couldn't get the knife to open to get it out of my finger without stabbing it deeper into myself. Sucked lol.
I have worked on tugboat for over 40 yrs. A knife is an essential tool and "must carry" for all of my crew. My preferences are all knives with little to no "pointy bit". Pointy tip = stabbed off-hand when cutting rope in rough seas. My late 80s Buck 315, my 90s vintage Grohman #3 yachtsman (with separate marlin spike), various serrated edge Spyderco folders, cheap Dexter Russel and Victorinox serrated knives for lifejacket. And on my tool belt... a cheap double side (one edge serrated) chisel tip divers knife. Any new suggestions in non-pointy tipped marine environment work knives?
I'm a compulsive fidget, so I'm aware of how annoying it can be for people around me. Recently, I started using a small fixed blade that satisfies my needs, yet seems to go unnoticed by everyone because it's silent and simple.
Wait a second, so are you breaking our balls or are you being serious? lol A fixed blade with zero opening mechanisms doesn't seem like it'd be overly satisfying for a "compulsive fidgeter" such as yourself.
@@wes.killed.it.5511 I know right! The thing that surprised me the most is how little people react when I pull out the fixed blade. I've had security follow me around the ferry for opening my salad with a CEO Compact. I've been given dagger eyes for using my spinner on transit or flipping my small balisong trainer in my car, but the fixed blade is somehow ok. Go figure.
Hey DCA, what knife under $100 would you recommend for a first EDC fixed blade? I've been looking for my first fixed blade to try to EDC but I can't decide. The Artisan Cutlery Sea Snake is currently winning, but I would love to see your recommendations. Thanks!

Hey DCA, you being the fixed blade guy you are, thought this would be a good place to ask about an old hunting knife I found in my Grandfather's garage. It is stamped on the blade Western USA W36 D from what I found it is an original Western Cutlery from before Coleman bought them. It has the original leather sheath with the brass snap stamped with Western Cutlery. Any other information about the knife would be cool. Also any tips on how to clean up and do a mild restoration on the blade and brass parts. What angle would you sharpen the edge to? I would love to continue using it as a hunting knife, as I'm sure my grandfather did when he was alive.
Very cool! As for any restoration, hard to say without seeing it (and even then I may not have a lot of great info for you), but as for angle, 20 degrees per side will almost never do you wrong. -DCA
Every year we get new knives, new designs, new steels, but one thing we dont get? Folding cheese knives!! So out of all these new fangled knives coming out, which would make the best folding cheese knife I can take with me to work? Hey DCA, is the Civivi Hadros the folding-/pocketknife version of the CJRB Silax? I have the Silax and love it and now locking for pocketknife. Thanks for your work!! Greetings from Norway.
Hey DCA, I love your KniFAQ videos. I'm wondering what your take is on affordable bushcraft fixed blade knives. Everybody seems to love the Mora knives. Do you know much about BPS Knives out of Ukraine? Any other quality budget bushcraft/camping knives?
Mr. Andersen, to your knowledge, is Cold Steel open to exclusives? If they are, would Knife Center be open to working with them on some? If there were a hollow-ground, drop point AD-10 in 14C28N, I would buy a few. If the entire Voyager series were redone with 14C28N and smoother G-10 (or even better, micarta), I'd treat them like Pokemons!
DCA and Thomas sirs, steel question for you: I got a base model Para3 lightweight from you guys that I love, I'm thinking about giving it to my dad and upgrading myself to one of the fancier versions, but I'm lost in the alphabet soup of CTS-BD1N vs CPM-SPY27 vs S45VN vs S110V vs Maxamet, can you please help shed some light on the pro cons (instead of me assuming the more expensive one must be better :D) or even an overall breakdown of commonish steels might be nice! Thanks and always looking forward to your videos, they are both informative and very soothing / calming to listen to!
Reply for Bryan S.: The CRKT folding Razel GT or CRKT folding Razel might be good options for you. And they are only about $50. The Spyderco Autonomy might also be a good option. If you do not necessarily need a knife I do think a pry bar would be the best option, or a combination of a knife and a pry bar.

Hey Guys- I’m looking for recommendations for small (ideally pocketable) fixed blade to EDC. Classy carry/leather sheath/pouch would be preferred. I like the looks of the Tops Mini Tanimboca but this niche may be too small for much variety. Thoughts welcome. Thank you!
I'm interested in traditionally-styled knives with modern function. The Boker Magnum Bonfire or the CKRT Bamboozled, for example. There must be others. Can you show me DCA?
I'm looking for a good convex knife for camping and bushcraft. I found the Fallkniven F1, the Real Steel Bushcraft 3/plus, and maybe the Svord Mega EDC but not too many others (I wish I could filter using knife grind on your website). What else is out there? I know a lot of people prefer a scandi grind for this application, but I want a convex grind. Thank you for the videos. I find them enlightening, entertaining, and educational.
Feel like you missed one here. I just purchased the SOG Altair XR. Super fidgety. Can’t put the thing down. Such smooth action. Would love to see you review it.
DCA you read every comment🤔😳 maybe you need to read mine @ 1.75 speed like I play this video , and you’re still quite understandable and have a about normal cadence… Thomas on the other is somewhat a blur. So for Thomas’ dialog do you think a compression lock would help? Maybe a reverse tanto? Thanks for enduring my comments.
Using a knife to clear out snow is inefficient and risky. A shoe- or small brush with stiff plastic bristles works excellent on shoes and ski binders. Now ice on the other hand, you just use the ski poles. But if a knife is a must, fixed blades. Or a slipdown/pouch would keep a folder from opening. An interesting gentleman would give you one of two kind of answers on his knife. 1. Is a short "its a knife", "it looked cool", "it cuts things" kind of answer. 2. a longer answer on his considerations of the knife. Like blade shape, steel, carry method, etc. But here it doesn't matter if its a $30, $300 or $3000 knife, his "why" is the interesting part. So as was mentioned, the man makes the knife interesting, not the other way around.
Not a question for the FAQ! But, why is 'made in "your own" country' important? The materials are getting importet after all. Some producers even export the stuff to just assemble it abroad. It's really not much of an indicator, this 'made in so and so'.
Hi DCA, I would like to offer a knife to my grandpa. So I'm looking for a traditional knife, no pocket clip, pin constructed and with wood scales. He got big hands so choose a big and robust knife. Thanks and hi from France 🇨🇵
I wish Benchmade dared to step out of their "box" a little, more often with their folders. I get it the Axis lock is their bread and butter, but other companies starting to and even surpass them with their crossbar locks. Would be nice to see them do more frame locks, liner locks (and even back locks), take some inspiration from the 830, 880, and more recent models. And not just release a $600 model that might be offered for a year. Benchmade is one of the companies that can push the US knife market forward at a "reasonable" price, with premium knife steels and basic scales (and offer variations in more premium handle materials, or even something like aluminum). Just would be nice to see some models with different locks than the Axis lock.
What does the term "fidget" have to do with a knife. I've seen that used a few times on videos. I use my knives for cutting tasks and always keep them sharp. The fidgeting term seems to originates from city folks who don't have many cutting tasks to use their knives. So they still spend lots of money buying folders just open and close them. I use my edc 10 to 20 times a day as needed for cutting. I only purchase 4" blades or longer and don't have any satisfaction just deploying the blade. If i have an urge to fidget with something I'll pull out one of my Colt single action army .45s. They are more fun to play with than my pocket knife.
My son bought me a benchmade Osborn (sp?) that I loved and lost. I really liked the finger flick. And also whatever edge it had. Is there anything comparable for less money? My son was willing to cover the cost for both he and I, and then we both lost our knives. Bummer.
Talking about high end stones or sharing tools, what would you recommend. I've had a Civivi front flipper D2 steel and I've never come to sharpen it. Just take off some metal from the blade. So please please, what would be a good tool to shapen D2

"Fidget EDC friendly" is just a term for "I don't wanna scare anyone" but definitely are nice because typically ball bearings. But they have no leverage and can get u in trouble just as easy
I'd say get a knife center exclusive carbon fiber vision fg, it's got the super lock which is similar to the shark lock and is a bit smaller and classier
For the ski instructor: I know this is a silly suggestion, but maybe it's your style? Perhaps a trainer ballisong - nothing to stab you, stout metal for scraping and you look like a G doing your job..
Swiss Skier here. Why do you need a knife to get snow of your boots? Either whack them together until the snow falls of or (if that didn't work) use the edge on the Skis to scrape of the snow. Using a sharp blade with gloves or snow cold hands really doesn't sound like good advice!😅
What’s the difference between a Wharncliffe pattern blade and a seax style blade? Is it possible to get a seax in a folding knife? (Asking because I’m a huge fan of the good old seax.)

Doesn't ring a bell, sorry! -DCA
I have recently started carrying fixed blades and as a stage hand this is more than acceptable, however I also like to wear a suit so what would be a good gentleman's fixed blade?
MKM Makro
Thomas, that Case pun was the salvaging moment of this week's FAQ. Not sure how the weeds graphic wasn't up for the majority of this one.
Come on too much time pn tje first question.
Not the Knife center Wal Mart Tea Kettle 😂
Hi dca! Important question! What are the sliciest knives you have to harvest ears?
I love the opening animation inspired (must be, right?) by the old Monty Python’s Flying Circus! Well done, Python fan.
Here is a question. What would you consider to be the most dangerous knife you have ever handled? And is there a knife style you just can't stand?
For me its the Artisan Cutlery Small Archaeo. Its got a very pokey blade tip and with my large hands and the double detent action, I've launched the tip into my misplaced fingers one too many times. One time I got the tip wedged into my finger in a way that I couldn't get the knife to open to get it out of my finger without stabbing it deeper into myself. Sucked lol.
that Gerber is a nice knife.
great vid, lots of nice knives thank you.
Love the Spyderco Salt series for work carry.
@@garthmckeil9539 Specifically I'd suggest the Spyderco Caribbean. It comes in a sheeps foot variant with plain or serrated edges
I'm a compulsive fidget, so I'm aware of how annoying it can be for people around me. Recently, I started using a small fixed blade that satisfies my needs, yet seems to go unnoticed by everyone because it's silent and simple.
Wait a second, so are you breaking our balls or are you being serious? lol
A fixed blade with zero opening mechanisms doesn't seem like it'd be overly satisfying for a "compulsive fidgeter" such as yourself.
Thanks!
Sea Snake would be a good one. The designer, Mike Emler, has a youtube channel with some vids on it if you'd like to know more.
@@arrowheadguys7637 thanks for the adviced! Yeah, I've been on his channel and I've watched several of his videos. Cool dude and the Sea Snake is gorgeous
-DCA
All questions answered expertly but especially the last one. Nicely done.
Every year we get new knives, new designs, new steels, but one thing we dont get? Folding cheese knives!! So out of all these new fangled knives coming out, which would make the best folding cheese knife I can take with me to work? Im tired of eating my brick of cheese with half a plastic butter knife stuck in it!
Awesome video 🤘
I would have thought the CRKT CEO flipper would have made the list. 🤷🏻♂️
Reply for Bryan S.:
The CRKT folding Razel GT or CRKT folding Razel might be good options for you. And they are only about $50. The Spyderco Autonomy might also be a good option. If you do not necessarily need a knife I do think a pry bar would be the best option, or a combination of a knife and a pry bar.
Found a rather interesting swedish hand made folder - one hand opening, but non-locking - with a lovely brass handle: Andersson & Copra
Urban Husky. Would love to see DCA take a closer look at it. :)
Hi DCA, i would like to know your opinion on the "Gerber: Zilch"? I like it, but i am looking for a knife with better knife steel, apr. 30 - 40 dollars, max 50. Preferably similar look/design as the Zilch, also similar functionality.
My picks that I know are fun to just play with when you wait for email and drink coffee and pretend to do work in office
Boker Urban Traper
CRKT Helical
Civivi mini elementum(I never liked elementum but mini is cute)
Kizer Clairvoyant
Sencut Citus, but in black as it look sleek and nice.
Civivi voltaic
Spyderco Ikuchi
Petrified Fish PFP01 Beluga
I am just starting my collection and like sub 3" blades. Have you any recommendations for a newbie like me?
To give you an idea of style, so far I have,
Civivi Baby Banter, green micarta.
Fox Core mini.
Civvivi Elementum, ebony scales.
Spyderco Ambitious, with lynch deep carry clip.
Benchmade mini bugout.
Victorinox Bantum.
Sorry...I don't get "fidget friendly" knives. I like knives that cut well. Maybe you can do a video on "fidget friendly pew-pews" next!
i think that a good fidgety gentleman's pocket knife would be a GerBer sedulo. $130.00 Dollars.
Feel like you missed one here. I just purchased the SOG Altair XR. Super fidgety. Can’t put the thing down. Such smooth action. Would love to see you review it.
Anyone know of some gentlemen *self-defense* folding knives? Cannot be a side-opening automatic or an OTF.
I love your Videos! My question is, WHY DON'T YOU SEND TO ICELAND?? Ty, An angry Icelander
Love spidy s 😊
Not a question for the FAQ!
But, why is 'made in "your own" country' important? The materials are getting importet after all. Some producers even export the stuff to just assemble it abroad. It's really not much of an indicator, this 'made in so and so'.
What’s a fun pocketknife that’s roughly a 2 inch blade for opening packages (cleaver) style blade
Love the end card outtakes. I was hoping you would pick knife from a Spanish speaking country, but I like Thomas’s answer more.
I think "gents knife" is code for "expensive". A higher end 20.5 would suffice. Otherwise, a Chris Reeves.
Bummer.
I’m looking to buy a knife for a friend of mine who is about to graduate. Preferably around $175ish. Any suggestions?
Talking about high end stones or sharing tools, what would you recommend. I've had a Civivi front flipper D2 steel and I've never come to sharpen it. Just take off some metal from the blade. So please please, what would be a good tool to shapen D2
Nice folders
The only time I will get mad about someone striking a ferro rod w their knife is when the leave the striker attached to the rod. MAKE UP YOUR MIND
"Italy, always fine things".

Hey dca I'm looking for a warncliffe blade that's similar in action, price and feel comparable the a civivi elementum ( liner lock version) I use my elementum and my tuff lite every day at work and would like to combined the 2 for one perfect work knife. Thanks for any insight and as always love the videos
I’d consider the Benchmade Valet more of gentleman’s knife than the Bugout. My father carries his in the office everyday.
Have a collectid,on of gentleman's knives from around 1925 back to the revolution a few older from Europe all are small carved ,etched made of everything from gold silver ivory steel bone to iaintgotta
LOL For the Ski guy i recommend a small folding shovel. Otherwise, any knife with a secure, sturdy, protective sheath, regardless of fixed blade or folder.
Not exactly a knife, but I love playing with my Milwaukee fastback...
Gerber covert auto, locks shut and open, for no tip, microtech just made a hellrazor, I believe though s&w first assit would be perfect for the snow guy
First
Very good channel and I like they way, how you present the products. Greetings from the Black Forest in Germany to you
Hey..David C.Anderson, How the Heck are You,,
David i Luv Knives.., but,
As U Know they Keep on going Up, Up, & Away,, i just Affrord them Anymore, it's Sad because, Alot of Us Older Viewers are On Tight Budgets...i guess it's A Young Man's Game Nowadays...i miss buying Kives, & i sadly had to Sell All mine, thank You Sir for these Videos...
Do y’all make sure the knives you show on your show work right before your show? because I bought a lot of Civivi and their flipper tabs don’t open the knives
The Boker Kwaiken button lock flipper in S35VN fits the bill pretty well.
Question!!! Why some steel are so expensive? M390, s35vn, etc..
I strongly recommend the böker plus ovalmoon swivel knife .
So I kayak fish and a knife is a must. It has to be one handed open , light and rust resistant. I'm sick of losing knives that fall out of my pocket due to bad pocket clips. Can you recommend knives that are factory or have an easily available aftermarket pocket clip that really holds onto the pocket of expedition style shorts?
