In the US I always go into Costco just showing my membership on my app. In Iceland I tried that, but I had to get out my actual card to be scanned. Not a big deal, but if you are used to using the app in the US make sure you bring the actual card.

We made sure to leave time on the way to the airport to visit Costco. Filled up the rental car with gas, bought some big bags of Icelandic candy and got some socks. Fun going up and down the aisles to see what was different! Just like going to Costco at home except they did want to scan our card instead of just showing it.

So you probably won’t see this post cuz your video is 2 years old. But it was nice to see another Hutchinson! The reason I came across and was watching your video is because my son Shane Hutchinson and his family are stopping over there on their
way back the US (permanently) after being in Sweden for 10 years and all my Hutchinson grandchildren who were born in Sweden are there in Iceland too. Blow away to see a Cosco there. Anyway thanks Hutch!!

My Daughter put together travel snack baggies, for the two of us, before we left for Iceland.
She used some of all of the dried fruits, nuts, seeds, granola & things that I had in the pantry.
A snack for the road she said.
I never touched it driving nor on the flight.
Every morning before we started our day, we ate Skyr with some of her hand blended trail mix on top.
What a great way to start the day.
When in Iceland Skyr is a great breakfast choice.
    Peace.

If you're from the UK it's basically the same. We were staying in hotels during our stay so didn't buy much just some snacks for the car or if we got stuck. Skyr, drinks which we couldn't finish and gave away, chocolate, fruit etc. The fuel was much cheaper. Yes you need a Costco membership to shop there and the card can be used worldwide. If you don't have to go, apart from fuel, I wouldn't bother. It was the novelty for us.

We were just in Iceland in September and I can say that everything she references is 100% accurate. Funny story about the "Alcohol" part of the store. Unlike the US stores you can't by your alcohol at this "Costco". I didn't realize this and went into the '"Alcohol" area (it's a separate room in the store). As I was walking around a lady (employee) comes rushing in asking me for my retail papers (She wanted some kind of a license that proved I was an seller of Alcohol). I told her I just had my membership and I wasn't selling any, I just wanted to purchase for my own consumption and she said "Not allowed", resale only. I asked her if I could at least take a picture of the "area" as it looked quite interesting and different from the "Costco" back home and she said NO....

Food court hot dogs are 100% lamb with no additives. Way better than the US costco. Gas was about US $7.29 a gallon. Over $50 for 1/2 tank on the way back to the airport rental car return. Cheap membership renewal for about $30, but you have to be Iceland resident. Lines were very long, stubborn people won't move to the center cash registers, not enough cashiers, so we opted for the bonus store next door. Definitely buy your alcohol at airport duty free. Won't find it cheaper.

Where do Icelanders store all this bulk meat and other items if the homes and refrigerators are smaller? Do you have freezers with your fridges or are they a separate appliance? And the Heineken was sitting out on the floor...could you not buy that? Or is that off limits too with the rest of the alcoholic drinks? How in the world will you use 60 eggs before they go bad?! So many questions...sorry. 😁😁😁

Hi. Jeanie, this is Tim T. We love to watch your videos about living in Iceland. We are planning a trip to Iceland in end of September, can you give us any advices for prepping our trip. Like weather in September or what kind of season clothing should we be packing during our trip. Thank you
