To be clear, I know that the Juno-106 was not used in these original recordings. This video is just an attempt to get closer to the original sounds. Maybe my bad english caused some doubts. Greetings.
Nice reproductions all around. Those learning synth take note: the slider & button settings displayed in the video seem to match what he's playing. I was able to come close to the sounds he's making on the Juno on my JP-08 just by looking at what all the settings were. (Africa horns proves that I really need more than 4 voices!) Thanks!
Hearing these sounds take me back to living in Hayward CA as a kid watching music videos on TV like Video Soul,MTV,Video VH1,Yo MTV RAP! Love the time of fresh new sounds.
I used to have one of these when I was a teenager and YES I played save a prayer from Duran Duran with it! Also played Jump from Van Halen Juno 106 had fantastic crisp sond for the time. This little unit sounded fantastic WIsh I still had it! Thanks for the memories
Actually the main riff that starts Save A Prayer was the Fairlight C.M.I.IIx Towards the end of it the Fairlight was programed to do some very complex pitch changes with the sequence playback. The Arturia V-Collection 8 has the Fairlight as an emulation
After the Fairlight intro the next part is the Jupiter 8 with the Fairlight playing its sequencer in the background. The Fairlight was a very important instrument on the Rio album. The Fairlight is on every song on the album
I don't think a Fairlight was used at all on Rio or very little. Interviews with Nick say he got one ‘halfway through recording Seven and the Ragged Tiger’. (Anyway, it seems that Nick is a Fairlight man, preferring it both to the Emulator, and the Synclavier: "The great thing about the Fairlight is the way it's laid out, not six different boxes like the Synclavier... I got mine halfway through Seven and the Ragged Tiger, and having worked with it for such a long time, I find it very quick to use.”). Of course it doesn’t mean he never used one prior to that but there is a lot of collateral on the synths used on Rio and it’s pretty much all analogue.
@@Radiofred take a look at the video and try to copy the panel, because that's it. remember that it is necessary to add an external triple time delay to the patch.
The title is misleading but he did state that he knew all these weren’t done on a Juno but is showing us how close it can get to some of the major sounds of the period
no, you can believe it's the sound of the Juno-106 itself, recorded live on the video, just added with some reverb or delay. The additional parts I programmed in midi or used the original isolated tracks.

Nice work!
You nailed most of them mate, nice job !!👍
Very close matches in most cases :)
Definitely a Juno on Jump, non?
This instrument made alot of musicians rich and famous.

Thanks for the feedback! You really understood the purpose of this video.
Yes this is already clear if you look at the LED display showing - which means manual mode =
Panel settings are used.

some of the most accurate playing i've seen on here for a while
Great job. Although most of those tracks wasnt made on a 106, your video shows it can come very close
That's the point of the video.
I loved the “We are spirits” part; I’ve never seen anyone play that chord progression before.
thanks for this! I'm making a video comparing Air's new Jura emulation of the Juno's chorus, but I'm not very good with the Juno. This really helped.
✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Shazam identified all tracks correctly ;-) . Nice playing.
Thank you for yours music.
🙌🏻
This is an excellent demo, thank you
Nice Job 👌
Very, very cool! Obrigado.
FANTASTIC!!!!
Sounds great !
I did know this instrument even exist.Love to have this back then.I bet this cost alot of money back then, but now it cost
From what what rock did you crawl underneath from ? :-D
My 2nd Synth. 1st being SH 101. I was 18 and really into Severed Heads and The Art of Noise. Thanks for this .❤
To get the REAL Art of Noise sound, you need to get yourself a Fairlight CMI. ;-)
Severed Heads 🤩

So you mean it wasn't done on the Jupiter 8 that they used elsewhere on the Rio album then?
After the Fairlight intro the next part is the Jupiter 8 with the Fairlight playing its sequencer in the background. The Fairlight was a very important instrument on the Rio album. The Fairlight is on every song on the album
Pretty sure those pitch changes are done by dialing in (too much) portamento so that it doesn't reach the right notes on time
Actually, it wasn’t...Roland SH2 sequenced by CSQ100 or 600. Juno sounds pretty close but it’s not a Fairlight.

Grande macchina! Bel lavoro davvero! Complimenti!
Africa - Yamaha CS 80
Jump was right on
Save A Prayer sounds pretty bang on.
The original recording is on a Jupiter, the Juno's big brother.
@@MarceloPereiraCafeSound it's great work on everything. You wouldn't happen to have the Duran patch?
@@Radiofred take a look at the video and try to copy the panel, because that's it. remember that it is necessary to add an external triple time delay to the patch.
@@MarceloPereiraCafeSound excellent, will do
@@MarceloPereiraCafeSound Roland SH-2 and CSQ-100
Cool
WOW- Save a Prayer was DEAD ON!
❤️
Howcome the patch numbers aren’t showing up?
it's because I created these patches from manual mode, the patch is showing up on the synth panel.
@@MarceloPereiraCafeSound What is "the synth panel"? I only know of the red LED readout that shows the bank and number.
@@FeatherGlow1 the physical panel of the synth, as shown in the video.
@@MarceloPereiraCafeSound Ah. Now I know what you mean - the position of all the slider controls.
@@FeatherGlow1 Yes, aka live mode
Using presets here?
look at the panel settings.
Duran or VH was not played on a 106
Era o preferido do Renato Russo
Jump wasn’t played on a juno it was oberheim
I know, the intention is to emulate some famous sounds in Juno-106.
enviar coro
had one of these for years, the circuit board inside shit the bed so now its' a $1600 door stop..what a waste
This may be recoverable, mine was dead a few years ago and I got someone to get it working.
Bruh
Its a well known fact that the infamous Jump riff was made on an Oberheim, not a Juno.
The title is misleading but he did state that he knew all these weren’t done on a Juno but is showing us how close it can get to some of the major sounds of the period
That is NOT the take on me lead sound - wrong keyboard.
"Take on me" sounds nothing like the original
I just turned on Shazam..... It showed....A-HA Take On Me (Video Version). Try yourself. Anybody else tried it??
why do I think you just play the real song and move your fingers on the keyboard? Who is playing the drums and guitar?
no, you can believe it's the sound of the Juno-106 itself, recorded live on the video, just added with some reverb or delay. The additional parts I programmed in midi or used the original isolated tracks.
