It is short because that's the short version.
Hehe, exactly 😂
O hino mais lindo do mundo obrigado por seres o meu Pais.
Pátria = homeland/native land
The word "Pátria" originates from the Latin "Pater", which gave rise to the Portuguese word "Pai" (father)
Fatherland
És o maior
@@franciscoandre4102 Sim, Andy é o maior!
Fantástica explicação.
Yeah, I know...
Every time i hear A Portuguesa i get goose bumps and feel encouraged, thank you for the respect shown the first time you heard it ,you are a true gentleman 👌👍👏
Thank you so much for this! I'm a US citizen who retired in Portugal and I very much appreciate this video.
Now you can understand our “hino”
Fun fact the original letter said in the last line “against the British, march, march!” following the British ultimatum of 1890
True
Fatherland, or motherland, both in portughese.
Anyway it was portughese man, the grandfathers, even before the modern nation, went to war agains iberians, romans, barbarians, vikings, arabes, maroca, argelians, spaniards, french, deutch, otomans, venitians, genovese, indians, chinese, africans, japonese, indonesian, etc,
they went alone, leave rhe wife in the motherland, they were the founders of many countries, and win wars always in great disvantage, and with honor in vitory or defeat.
E basta!!Está lá tudo o que tem a dizer!!
It is a catchy tune which, despite being a march, foes have a unique melody to it that makes it easily revognizable.
The lyrics are outdated to thecpoint i often think it should be played without lyrics. The lyrics are an adaptation from the original version which began as a call of arms against, of all people, the british, during a political crisis in regard to the british impositiins in regard to the pink map. Later the words "against the britons" was changed to "against the cannons" as that rhymes in portuguese and was afopted as the republic's anthem.
Goosebumps
Fatherland is basically Motherland, and it's short cuz that's the short version. That's the version that is usually sung in events. There's a MUCH longer version.
The most interesting bit is how this song came to be... Leave u to search it... But the original lyrics was not this one...

@foreign reacts , reacts to the full version
nice war hymn
Why war?...
Short version
Fatherland is common. Germany calls itself the fatherland, and most Latin countries as well.
This is the short version , unfortunately the king version doesn’t have translation in English 😢
There are further lyrics, but they are seldom sung.
Originally the last words of the lyrics were: "against the Britons lets march"
Afterwards it was changed to " against the cannons lets march...", which is ridiculos, as a matter of fact
why it's Fatherland "of or relating to a patriarch, the male head of a family, tribe, community, church, order, etc."
The term "Pátria" is actually a feminine word. And any reference to it is always in the feminine. We refer to the "Pátria" as "she". Also, Republic is also a feminine word. So that comment about the "patriarchy" is just stupid.
That is only 1/3 of the Nacional Anthem
fatherland because Portugal was the father ok many other countries.
Okay
Errado, a tradução foi toda mal feita, devem ter utilizado o Google. Pátria é feminino - logo motherland
@@carlosvalentim7130 It would be better translated as homeland but the word patria comes from latin for fatherland, coming from pater for father.
@@carlosvalentim7130 Errado, mas quem és tu o pentelho?
Pateta e BURRRO
Hello!! About that motherland.. Fatherland... Thing... Y believe it's just a more literal translation too English.. In Portuguese many times (O) is male "Ó Pátria" And (A) female"À Pátria " So they used that in the translation..in PT we don't really have translation too fatherland that would make sense "Terra Pai" ❌.. Only motherland "Terra Mãe"✅or Pátria for short lol 😂 PT as a lot of words..double a lot male/female..
não sei se reparou, mas a palavra 'pátria' deriva da palavra 'pai'...
@@silveriorebelo2920 a palavra pátria é de origem latina (latim) e não se traduz por Pai.
About Fatherland i think that was an automatic translation because it was bad. "Pátria" in portuguese is feminine so it should be mother land. The problem was the articale "o" in portuguese is use for male words but is also the english interjection oh.
Its motherland
This is not the all anthem and it´s not father land but mother land please inform yoursrl better, be a better average american, a average portuguese
Looks like it was translated by kid in a rush to be somewhere else. It's to literally translated...
This version is a bit stylized. I learned this anthem as a child and it sounds a bit different.
“Fatherland” because Portugal is a patriarchal, conservative country.
Interesting that you did this video.
Clearly inspired by "La Marseillaise" (the French anthem), just like many other European and Latin American anthems. Everything starts with the French revolution.
Im portuguese and have no relation with marsellaise
Nope
O Nosso hino é lindo !Aprendi o na escola,tínhamos de o cantar em pé ao lado da mesa e só depois sentávamos e começava a aula.
Quando fui para a tropa era dos poucos que sabia o hino de cor.Ainda me emociono quando o oiço nos jogos da seleção!
O de França,da Inglaterra e dos Estados Unidos também são muito bonitos!
I ve learned the Portuguese 4:54 hymn at school
We were standing singing and only after we get seated and the class would begin.
When I went to the Army some guys didn’t kwew how to sing it Properly
I still have goose bumps when I ear “A Portuguesa” on the beginning of the games of soccer with national Portugal s team!❤🇵🇹
Actually no, the anthem was even inspired during the war with Great Britain
FHATERLAND...PATRIA...THE LAND OF OUR FATHERS...OUR ANCESTORS,,,THIS IS A REPLUBLIC ANTHEM...WHEN PORTUGAL WAS A MONARCHY,,IT WAS A DIFERRENT ANTHEM..
