Jazsmine Brown the voice in the begining felt like what she sounded like as her spirit lifted after the crash. Like she was calling to someone. Her voice so pure. Angelic. No wonder it gives chills.
The thing that would've given Aaliyah longevity in music was her constant desire to be ahead of the curb and reinvent her sound from album to album. This album didn't sound like One in a Million and One in a Million didn't sound like the debut. Nothing in R&B sounded like _Aaliyah_ in 2001. While her contemporaries were seeking "immediate" hits from The Neptunes & Darkchild (no shade to them), she trusted her team of relatively unknown (outside of Timbaland) producers to deliver the goods. She was fearless and seemingly not afraid to fail. It's so unfair that her life was taken at such a young age.
Well said dear! I couldn't agree more. I have always believed that she always put the art over record sales. Aaliyah wasn't the artist who was simply looking to put a hit song on the radio, but instead always showcased creativity and innovation in her work, qualities that have certainly distinguished her from her contemporaries. She was a talented and beautiful artist, gone way too soon.

This album was such a classic but so was one in a million. Her, timbaland and missy really were the Holy trinity. Didn't pen her lyrics, but she knew how to bring those lyrics to life!! Aaliyah was a terrific artist!! Understandably why she was a muse to so many, as she was a visionary in all aspects of her #art!! When you listened to this record, she is not glorifying infidelity, as if you listened to her tone throughout the song, that melancholic sound tapers throughout the song, as she would prefer her lover to be her guy and no one else's. Even as she tells him weekends for me would be enough, you can hear the sheer sadness in her voice. It's very transparent that she isn't happy at all with the state of their relationship, yet she is willing to take a chance and see where it goes, and of course decides if this is the type of relationship she wants to be in or the person she wants to be with smh Nice song; excellent delivery!!💙

Aaliyah's entire sound on this album is just far ahead of anything from 2001 and now. She was definitely a game changer.
