Back in 2015 this episode aired the same day as Rose’s Scabbard. So Steven Universe had me crying in the late afternoon, and then Gravity Falls had me shouting with excitement in the evening haha.
The shot of Mabel floating in front of the portal is one of my favorite shots in all of animation. The literal gravity of the situation is so huge, and that look of serenity in the face of almost certain doom always hits me. Huge Mabel W here. Watching this as it aired was mind blowing. I rewatched this one SO many times between this and the next one airing.
Remember back in ''Boss Mabel'', Stan had difficulty saying the word ''Please'' I think that was the deciding factor for Mabel to trust him. And i love it. Really shows consistency in their characters and how Mabel understood he had to be truly honest about this. '' Grunkle Stan... I trust you. '' gives me chills every single time
There were FOUR MONTHS between the premiere of this episode and the next episode. We got the big reveal, and then nothing for four months. I was twelve and convinced the world was going to end, lol.
"Grunkle Stan.. I trust you." is up there with "Zuko, it's time to start asking yourself the big questions; who *are* you, and what do *you* want?" and steven refusing with himself in Change Your Mind as one of THE top moments in all of western animation. The whole lead up to it is SO hesrt-poundingly tense, and then there's just this one *moment* where the audience collectively holds their breath and then the tension breaks This episode is as close to perfect television as it gets. The pacing is so perfect, the way things just ramp up and up til it comes to a head... they should study this episode in writing classes and im not kidding
This was the biggest reveal in the whole series. It was quite the shock for fans. Credits code: THE ORIGINAL MYSTERY TWINS Numbers code: THIRTY YEARS AND NOW HE'S BACK THE MYSTERY IN THE MYSTERY SHACK
they dropped some subtle hints about this actually. remember the carpet diem episode with the electron carpet? when Stan said “just another room i have to clean up”, he said that as he hid a pair of glasses in his pocket and was then wiping them down later in the episode. also, we were able to see a kid reading a book during Stan’s flashback to taking boxing lessons. that was the brother too.
We previously had multiple encoded messages telling us Stan was not what he seems, and one of the giant dogs in Mabel's Smile Dip hallucination in The Inconveniencing spoke the backward message "Must not trust Grunkle"
the smile dip dog connection is a stretch, it doesnt really sound all that much like anything, though all of the other messages sure made this episode all the greater
As a newer Gravity Falls fan myself, I can't imagine the meteoric impact the ending reveal had on the community. And after this episode fans had to wait four months for the next one, which must have been a pretty cruel cliffhanger at the time.
I became a "Grunkle" at 29 or 30. (Although we just said "great-uncle." And there is a big age gap between me and my oldest sister so her oldest child is less than ten years younger than I.)
Wonder what would happen to Gravity Falls if it got hit with whatever hit the Darkwood. They wouldn't last a week. Also, Soos is probably gonna end up being the giant snail.

Thanks for that memory :')

Mine too. As many times as I've watched this show, I always find myself waiting for that shot. Something about it is just so amazing to me.

The REAL reveal is the season finale of Ducktective
Also the comment when the SWAT guy grabbed Waddles-- "He's one of you!" got me XD
Lol no one ever talks about how Wendy's dad was willing to take out a couple of children so easily
"NoOoOoOoOo!"
Why do you think she's so stressed!

I was happy to be spamming STAN IS NOT WHAT HE SEEMS in the comments 😁

This episode surprised me. The ending was shocking. Stan has a twin brother and he's the author of the journals

You should watch inanimate insanity, season 1 is really shitty but it goes from insufferable nonsense to depressing thought-provoking plotlines
