Thank you for this excellent review! You provided very helpful information and demonstrations!
Another awesome, well thought out video! Thanks Dustin! Just ordered mine this morning and can't wait to get it!
WOW. Good information. Thank you for taking the time to do a comprehensive , honest review.
Amazing job; thanks for this very useful tutorial!
Thank you Dustin for an excellent video. You are a tremendous teacher. I have a DJI Spark for some time now and a friend flies it because I don't dare to do it. But with your good videos I am learning a lot.
This is a super helpful video. Really helps.
Another great review. I am looking forward to getting this little giant, thanks to your in depth reviews.
+William Mjema Right on William. I think it will do even better with that OTG cable connecting controller to phone 😉✌
You make me want to move to Hawaii mate, every video shows the beauty of the island thanks
Thanks, I just got one , finally!!
Awesome. I've been waiting for this and obsessively checking youtube! :)
+Scott Rose it was a good test. I also touched base on some of the features I missed or had issues with in part 1 🍻😁
Looking forward to the range test. Another great review!
+Mike Brooks ✌
awesome like always, hope you and family had a great 4th:)
+Ron Higginbotham Thanks Ron. Same to you 👍
Just got a spark these are helpful
Love your vids man keep up the good work
+Jack Riordan Thank you Jack. I will try my best 🙂✌
lovely this drone😍 hope soon... i hope i can buy that drone.. its my favorite drone
4:35 the butterfly recovered!
Another great review. Nice.. keep it up 👍
+SIGORIS 🙂✌
getting mine on Friday. thanks for all the great videos. aloha from oahu.
+patrick kim right on Patrick. Keep it close around that 10% battery mark 🤙
tripod mode is the best for video & fotos very cinema looking footage, wish you had shown that more !
love it!
Thanks for the useful information.👍🏼
+Marble Falls Roundup 👍🙂
Every time I watch your vids.. I kinda like crying....because of jealous...that you have a drone like that..I really really love DJI spark Tho..BTW KEEP IT UP SIR...WISH ME LUCK...❤️❤️😔😞❤️❤️
Thank you for the in-depth pt 2 review Dustin you are easy to follow unlike some others, I did subb last year, and have bought the Spark but a bit reluctant to fly too far as I'm waiting for the rc controller from the Flymore package! 😡 Will look forward to more of your vids! All the best to you and your family, regards, Pete in the UK.
+Pete G Thanks Pete. 👍. More to come 😀🍹
Great video brother, looking forward to getting mine soon.
One question, how come you never fix your lens correction for your action camera?
That's some darn good range for what's considered a selfie drone...and nice stable video despite the wind....now if the battery lasted a bit longer...it would be perfect!
I enjoyed that review, not really good conditions for a small drone but it handled quite well.
+gareth5000 It does hold its own I'm some wind 🙂
Hey Braddah, mahalo iā ʻoe. I bought a DJI Mavic Pro based on your review. Keep up the great videos.
+russ Right on Russ. Thanks for finding my vids useful 🤙
G'day Dustin, the spark certainly handled the windy conditions reasonably well. Thanks for that, I was wondering how it would cope.
Cheers.
+Moz 42 👍🙂
Hey! Great video the reason why the drone wasn't going up was that you entered a class echo airspace. Which means planes fly there at low altitudes.
Sweet review! ! For the money its a cool lil camera drone! ! :-)
Cheers! ! !
+Carpenter RickM 😁👍
Nice review. You can be forgiven for not being aware of the quite publicized problems with the Dronie, Helix, etc. modes, but you showed what folks will have to deal with their Sparks. One of the main takeaways for me was how easy it is to switch between controller and WiFi modes once you get the hang of it. I mostly fly with the controller, but not always and your video made switching very clear and understandable. Thank you, Dustin. Oh, and the part about the Mavic sun shield working was the first time I've seen that.
+Hugh Dinwiddie Thanks Hugh. I'll be seeing if I can fiddle with settings for the quick shot functions and touch on that in the upcoming long range test if I can 😀✌
I think we're going to have to wait for a firmware update to fix the Dronie/Helix problems. I think in future videos you could explore the use of the DJI Go 4 app as I'm sure it's confusing so folks new to DJI. Even knowing what to do with your photos and videos will be a benefit. Should you bother with the DJI editor or just pull 'em off the SD card and handle them they way you do from other cameras? How about the panorama modes? Vertical/Horizontal? What can you do with them after they're taken? Can you keep them for yourself? Just some examples that nobody else seems to be doing.
I'm totally considering getting a Spark with controller for $399 (with Amazon gift cards about 200-something)
I think this would be a solid starter drone for myself. Your video is making me miss my 2 weeks in Hawaii. We were on Oahu and Kauai though :) Next time, maybe Maui
Very helpful. It actually displayed one of my curiosities, and that was how the video looks when banking a turn. Would like to see another video kind of dedicated to gimbal controll while banking in sport and regular fly mode. You didn't really comment on how helpful the visor was and if you felt that impacted the antenna range since it slipped over them. This is a big negative if you want to use the parabolic's. The visor also obscured your hands on the controllers. I do not have a drone yet, so I am wanting to see how the interaction with the controller is in relation to holding it (if that makes sense). Do you ever use your screen recorder as a backup in case you loose the video recorded with the drones internal memory or SD card? How much decrease in battery do you see on your phone after each flight? I saw a video that touched on being able to use an external battery in conjunction with the phone while connected to the controller.
Thanks
I really want the spark. You should do a giveaway
great video. I notice it say "poor radio channel quality" does that affect anything? Mine sometimes says that when I'm flying and I get freak out. I always do recalibrate in a new location but sometimes the warning stills pop up once in a while during flight.
Could you do a comparison of the spark and the bebop 2? I'm deciding between them and I find your reviews the most useful.
Which would you say is better out of the spark and bebop 2?
You should review the DJI Tello! 😄👍
i have a tello its actually really good
Hi. Great review. So when the phone is connected to the RC wifi, cell data isn't working? No whatsapp message, emails alerts? Thanks.
Great video review! I've had the same problem with the Dronie intelligent flight mode. It doesn't fly upward, but straight back and will just keep going until i tell it to stop. Probably a bug. The Rocket one went up and then way past my location and lost me, lol
+Fit By Kevin le Lol.. I know. Hope they update soon.
Did they ever fix this? Mine is working just fine, I wonder if you are still having issues?
Is it possible to charge with the mini usb with you are doing flight setup on the ground? I was thinking you could avoid using on broad battery life by doing that.
How many megapixels is the camera when you take a picture opposed to the 1080p video?
So from the first video , you saying the avoiding objects is working like suppose to ? or the only features of that is in the Mavic ,Mavic air etc . Thank You man
Great review. Best I have seen till now.
+Roma Maastricht Thanks Roma! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
+Roma Maastricht 😂🤗
Roma Maastricht till now ? Where did you find better one ?
Take a look at Jason'Payne's channel (Luxury Tech and Travel). He did some great one's about this drone too.
Hi Justin would you please let me know the make and model of camera that you use in your cap to allow you to film hands free in your reviews,. Love the channel - regards Tony West (UK)
Could your WAVING at the camera confuse it (gesture mode?)
Great videos. I own a 3DR Solo and love it. But I ordered a Spark for just travel and playing around, should arrive tomorrow. Quick question on the Quick Shots. If you press and hold the quick shot icons, like Dronie, Rocket, etc... are you able to adjust the settings on each shot? I thought I saw that somewhere or maybe I made it up.
+Awakened Sleeper Right on Congrats 😀. I'm not sure but I will try that and also demonstrate it in my next video if it works ✌🍻
I tested it and yes. Once you launch in the quick shot tap the icon and you can adjust distance for Dronie and height for Rocket. Loving it so far.
Thanks for the video! Really helpful! I also have the Fly more combo but still feel like it's not enough flight time for me :( 15 mins is really about 10 mins as at 30% you'll already have the low battery warning which would force you to start bringing back the drone or risk crashing or losing it. Still very happy with my Spark, maybe a 3rd battery will make it enough flight time.
+rrbarcarse Good points there. Yes, The elusive flight time dream... When will we ever get there? 😂 I got my 3rd battery and OTG cable in so it's time for a range test and so.e coastal spark journeys ✌🍹
Great reviews Dustin! I really enjoy them and use your vids for references. I have a question, I was wondering what you recommend, a cell phone or a tablet? As well as the Spark I also have a Phanton 3 standard. I used a Samsung Tab A and bought these big honking range extender antennas but the tablet seems to lose connection with the drone. I bout lost it twice! Thankfully the return to home still worked when connection was lost.
Thanks
Thanks Billy. Get a controller if you don't have one and range will drastically increase. Tablet is best for your eyes but gets bulky so that's up to you 👍
How far away can you go with just a phone and controller setup and still have video feed?
do rocket from in-front of you and actually give it some space. you will get a cool effect.
nice one Dustin
+Big drone flyer77 ✌😉
Hi,
I've not managed to work out from the Spark videos I've seen, if seeing the map is dependant on having data to your phone? I'm planning on using it in an area where there is no data, and not even a phone signal (in the middle of Sierra Leone), and I may have to cross a large river with it! If no map, I'll be relying on the view from the camera, which should work as long as I have another device handy to access my offline maps. I'm hoping I'll get a decent range in open country, and across water.
+William Bickers-Jones hey William. You can cache the background map. Turn it on with data then scroll around/zoom in and out so it saves the area you will be flying in. It should still be there when there is no data for a few days atleast. 😀✌
Hi Dustin ftom the uk. qick question. Can it be flown JUST using the controller and no phone?? great video as always
+Jay Spiers Yes it can Jay. I've tried it. Just arm with sticks and fly line of site if you want 🙂✌
like to see that range test with the cable hardwired :)
+nev Tk 1100 I know..lol. OTG cable and extra battery should be here any day and we can compare in this park also as well as range test out of town 😉✌
Dustin Dunnill where did you Order your cable and battery?
+Georgencolleen1 I have the link in description below video
With the OTG cable in use will that eliminate needing to toggle between networks to download and install firmware updates?
+Thomas Gehrdes Jr From what I'm hearing, yes Thomas. I have not received my cable yet.
Excellent review, great information makes me want to buy one. Still not sure which route to go either full on racing quads or camera quads. My replacement kingkong tiny 6 finally arrived and it fly's much better straight out the box. My skills are improving but not quiet ready for acro level yet. I keep getting a strange drift to the back and left/right which I can get rid of eventually by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Have you experienced this? I have not played around with beta flight yet as most of the time its fine, just make it a lot more difficult when trying to thread the needle.
cheers
ian
+Ian Adamson Hey Ian. Sounds like your having fun. May just be the accelerometer getting out of wack a bit as it flys from vibration. I didn't notice it in mine but if your inconstant forward motion you won't notice it or you could always try to trim a bit to compensate... Or hook it up to betaflight and do a Accel reset on perfectly level surface 😉✌
Dustin Dunnill hi thanks for the advice I will give it a go. I have already followed your video to set acro and horizon mode haven't attempted to fly in those modes yet and yes having a lot of fun. What an amazing little quad!👍
+Ian Adamson ✌😂✌🍻
would you post a link for the OTG cable? thanks!! great review BTW. i'm so torn between the spark and mavic. i'm in the process of sellin my phantom 4. i never take it out anymore. want something small. :)
+mel rolleri It's on the DJI site I linked or you can just get one from another store
If you adjust all your settings in the app it will work amazingly well.
There has been many updates since you made this video.
Hey DD, any thoughts on reviewing the Sunly Tech Alpha Cam Drone...seems like an inexpensive alternative and supposedly has a 20 min battery....keep up the good work with all of your reviews!....JB
+JB I'll try to get one in for review. I may have just found a solid Spark competitor which I'm currently in review of... Stay tuned 😉🍻
sounds good....mahalo..
C'mon DD, I'm really intrigued about a legit Spark competitor... hopefully a review soon, please...
Noice
Have you used “waypoints” in any of your spark videos yet? If so which one? It’s going to make or break my purchasing the spark. Thanks. Btw your videos are all great.
You'll need to get the litchi app to do waypoints as DJI has eliminated them from their app
Being so, what do you think about my decision to buy either the spark or the bebop? Is the spark a stronger unit even though the waypoints have been deleted? The waypoints on the bebop 2 power seem to be very customizable and flat out cool, but I don’t want to waste my money on something “cool”. I’m 54. Lol. Oh and btw thanks for such a quick reply. I’m sure you’re busy and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. You’re very respected from here. I value your opinion and judgement. Also btw this will be my first drone. I can’t seem to jump in and buy one when the market changes constantly. I hope to jump in by the end of the month as a birthday present to myself. Thanks again. Tommy
You've got to break down what's important to you and no one else. Are waypoints really needed? Flight time on Bebop2 is far superior. Front obstacle avoidance important to you? I think you get what I mean 👍
Another great review, Dustin. The DIJI Spark's a neat little machine, although it honestly doesn't look too reliable.. That makes me nervous..I have a question regarding my Visuo XS809HW. Charging times are supposed to be 60 to 70 minutes, and then the red LED on the charger goes out. But mine doesn't. I've had it charge for two hours and a half, and the light still doesn't go out. But if I unplug the charger and plug it back in, suddenly it does. Because of this confusion, I'm afraid I've ruined the battery. The last time I flew it, it only lasted for five minutes. What do I do? Do I need a new battery? New charger?
Thanks. Yes the had gesture functions are not very reliable. Hope dji can update to make it better. Sounds like you may have a bad lipo I'd order a new one and just try to leave your old one on charge for a few hours but monitor it doesn't burn.
Hopefully they can..But as it stands now, I think I'll stick to flying manually. I do not trust these "autonomous" features. On three occassions, it seemed to just do its own thing..First two times were when you enabled rocket, and the helix, I believe..Third time was when it pitched dangerously close to you. But thanks, Dustin. I'll see about buying some new batteries. There's a good six pack for $11.
+Wolfie apparently you can change the quick shot distances by holding down the button which would make it less sketchy. I'll try to touch on this in the next Spark video.
what app do you use to capture your phone screen?
Great videos, and made in Maui makes them even better
AZ recorder for Android
38:20 you're talking about overdischarging batteries, which can be a big problem with lithiums. But I have actually heard the opposite ever since loe voltage protection has been standard. Im assuming the pack is both lithium and has voltage protection, so correct me if Im wrong, but Ive been told that getting a pack to zero and giving it a oroper 0-100% charge every once in a while actually HELPS the lifespan of that battery.
The last time I fried a lithium cell with negligence was when I put a micro quadcopter battery in one of my rc cars for a boost in range, but I did not solder in a low voltage cut-off.
Great review as always ;) Hmmm ... I am not really impressed by the Spark, ....guess I will stay with the Bebop2 :) Thx for all your reviews.... really appreciated :)
+Hans S. 👍
What was the wind speed?
Thanks for ur videos. I got mine I. Today and was just setting it up but noticed that the body of the drone got really hot. Is that normal?
+MrPicoSun Yes it gets hot. I'd try to put a fan or breeze on it when your updating for good measure.
Dustin Dunnill Wow! Thanks for the reply. It was 100F when I was syncing everything.
Loose the sun shade for demos. Can't always see what's happening. All else is great!
Love your reviews!!!! Question for you. I f money is tight do you think someone could pull off doing weddings with the Spark? I would want to upgrade as time goes on. Just wanted your honest opinion. Thanks so much😀
Yes, just not in much wind 👍
@@DustinDunnill Thank you for your reply. I really enjoy watching your reviews!!! You always have an honest opinion. Which has been very helpful. My wife bought me the collectors Swing fighter in the rechargeable case due to you review so Thank you!!!!
Right on Michael 👍. Those propel starwars drones are awesome.
what is its max. distance ?
Thanks for that. Looks like it has some issues with fast live video while in sport.
+Son Ero Yes, the 2 axis gimbal has it's limitations 🙂
Is there any way to fly it pure fpv without any gimbal compensation ?
+Son Ero Yes, there is an FPV mode in gimbal settings within the DJI go 4 app
Thanks man ! .... waiting for someone to post some fpv fast proximity flying before I pull the pin ... :) I've read it responds well when connected to OTG cable.
I have my Spark connected with an OTG adapter to my iPhone 7plus. Works fine
With a 3d battery purchased, the cost difference with the Mavic gets smaller, and the total flight time only slightly surpasses the autonomy of one Mavic battery...add to that the limited range and connection hiccups, and so I'm more and more inclined to pass on this one.
+Staf VH The line between the two does start to get close the more accessories you buy. I wish they made the arms foldable as it would make it much more small and portable and fit in your pocket separating it self a bit more from the Mavic.
Can the remote controller be used as standalone, totally without the phone? greetings from Sweden, Levi
Sure ya can but if ya can see the drone over 20m away ya pretty good...
Yes, but you may sacrifice many features and nearly all ability to change settings. It's always good to fly with a phone.
To what % should you take the spark to for a healthy battery life?
+Sma Das 20% then land for best battery maintenance 👍
How do you like ti compared to the Mavic, in terms of value. Is the Mavic worth 2x the price?
+SnowbirdSteeze If you need 4K video, more range and around 10 more minutes flight time while still fitting in the same size carry bag... then yes it is worth it if you can afford the Mavic over the spark 👍🍻
My concern is that the Mavic 2 is this fall, so I think that the Spark is the ideal travel drone.
Is the size difference that marginal?
+SnowbirdSteeze Yes, when the Mavic is folded up they are close
Hey i have my spark 1 week ago the signal transmission is really weak i can't fly to far away i don't know if because my area do you think if i use an otg cable do you think thats gonna be helpful for me bro let me know if that going to be fixed if I'm using it thx
Try it away from interference/town 👍
What about if i use an otg cable do i still need to try it out from town?
I think the drone quick shot is broke. Mine does the same thing, hardly any height and seemingly keeps going straight back. If you notice theres a % under the record button that never goes over 4%. Somethings off about it, I think it might be the latest updates. When I first got mine it worked just fine, but not anymore.
+SirPasta117 Thanks for sharing the info. Does seem like it needs improvement. DJI needs to fix this quick or the will have a huge amount of new flyers crashing into things from behind and the sides because it does not ascend higher during the auto quick shots.
Can i use two phones. Like i forget my main phone and i just have the other phone can i still used that phone?. Just download dji go 4 and i'm good?
Yes and log into your account
Are flying modes like dronie, circle & others, only work when drone are controlled using a smartphone?
my english not good, but i hope u know what i mean :p
+Zahran Al-Qowwiy Yes, you can also use them with controller 🙂👍
Thanks for the answer, very helpful :)
on next video, please review about dji spark range test with remote controller
+Zahran Al-Qowwiy Yes, it will be the next Spark video.
then what is 3 beeps?
Hi, i have a question. Do you have a drone you don't need anymore.
I am super excited to own a drone but the price is high for me.
Thanks in advance.
there should be dji spark races lol
+george aura 🤗
That's a great idea!
Formula Spark
Filmed by mavics
They do races with drones I’ve seen it on tv and one guy had a spark so that counts
So could the fact that in can track a person mean it could track an object? Say a ball?
Do you need to insert a sd card on the drone if you're gonna press video on your phone?
Yes
URGENT QUESTION: I'm going to Cuba and there is not Internet connection, Can I fly it without Internet ??
+Karla Cetina ,Yes 😀👍
Thanks!! =D
When you saved those videos taken by the spark does it have audio?
No audio
Dustin Dunnill ok thanks for the reply. Really helps me. Buying a spark soon :)
thinking about getting this for my vacation coming up.Do you think i should pick up the controller. I don't feel like i need it. but im worried about touch screen malfunctions.
+Rsay Ray Get the Controller or the flymore combo also if you can afford to. It's very limited in range and less precise with phone only. I would want to miss a killer shot because I didn't have a controller to get out far 🤗✌
How did cancel the outa the quick shot so don't hit anything behind you
Press stop on screen
how do you get the on screen footage?
see above where he says it's an app called AZ recorder
15 min flight time and it says 2 klm distance? i bet it takes longer to go and return 2klms i have the phantom2
I've got it out 1.5miles with more than 60% battery left so I think it is capable.
First comment. (big achievement for me)
Range test almost seems silly when the battery only give 10-12 minutes of flight time, you only have a 5-6 minute range of flight to play with.
Does the app still crash?
+The Purple Flash not as badly any more. Very rarely
Dustin Dunnill thanks!
Lifts camera while landing.
I had the same experience, it did not going up during dronie only backward, that's why I ended up returning it
+kn Chang I hope DJI adjusts it quickly with an update for their sake.
If a person needs a smaller drone, i would say spend or save for the Mavic. The Spark is ok with the controller but to me it just doesnt justify the price point.
Yes, the Mavic is better but your comparing something that is twice the price for fly more combos compared. If you have that then yes the Mavic is the way to go over this.
Dustin Dunnill I was more comparing the Mavic which comes with controller versus the spark and purchased with the controller. I still think someone should save their money and drop a few more hundred dollars on the Mavic. The price difference isn't massive.
❤🎉😮😊ไฟไฟไฟ แอดพ์
3-5 racing drones Vs One of These... gg. The price of 4k and stabilization... rest in pepperoni technology... I'll wait 10 more years LOL!
+Devastating Chow lol.. I have a surprise 4k 2 axis mechanically stabilized Spark competitor in review now... We shall see how it does 😀🍹
Dustin Dunnill oh I'm interested in seeing that... if it's cheaper that'd be insane
livevideo is lag and bad desapointed
Put it in sport mode and fly the hell out of. it
