For me, this song is about connections we share, the complications that can permeate relationships, and moving through darkness to learn to forgive and love ourselves as if this were our last moment alive. This is her asking her son to go easy on her when he is old enough to ask her why she tore their world apart and the I didn't have time to choose what I chose to do means the actual divorce it must have been something that couldn't wait at least that's how I take it. Her singing and the melisma ad libs are ridiculous. I wasn't sure how I felt about this song but this is now my tenth or so listen and it could be one of her best songs. She is just a stone cold killer.

I think that verse is pertaining to how she didn’t have a chance to really consider marriage, maybe she feel like she got married to young or too soon…she haven’t experienced life yet. Just going by the verses that comes before that: I was still child, didn’t have a chance to feel the world around me. But idk. At least that’s what I get from it
I agree to that also, but it’s what I’ve heard somewhere that she wrote it for her son about their divorce and all her emotions regarding her choices and the decision she had to make. Such a beautiful song anyway you interpret it. I think it’s her most beautiful song ever and “Hello”.

#Easyonme is not about her ex-husband as some have assumed. It is actually for her son, explaining to him why she had to give up and went with a divorce. She simply asking him to be easy on her with her decision for her own happiness despite the consequences her son may come around. It explains well in the 2nd verse.
In the 2nd verse, she says "You can't deny how hard I've tried. I changed who I was to put you both first//But now I give up"
You can not even tell she has had vocal surgery.
This woman is THE BEST vocalist on this planet and to me has no equal , for that matter she is probably one of the top 5 voices of all time the notes she hits the musicality the effortless transitions she went up an octive like it was as easy as breathing , the shear genius song writing the musical arrangements of her songs are just PERFECTION then this video just wow STUNNING .

Due to her vocal surgeries, she has trained to have a darker, heavier tone (which is easier on the vocal chords), rather than the light, open vowels she used to have. You can clock it on the SNL skit she did with her older songs, versus the studio versions. Her vowels are darker. I think it's a good change. It's like her voice getting older as well. Having more gravitas.
