I love Asa's solos, especially with the slapping. I would also like to hear more from him in the vocals. It's magical to go to a concert and see a power trio and a traditional ensemble trading off and coming together.
I understand the strings on a Shamisen are made from silk. I recently watched a live vid where it looked like she broke the lower string but never slowed down, just adjusted her fingering to compensate. We've seen here trade Shamisens between songs.
As you say, the west grows fat on mediocrity in music. These opening acts display more talent, musicianship and skill than the likes of the latest discovery by the western 'talent shows' could ever muster.

Weird thing is that no matter what style they play, it sound better than anything what i have hear before. They are another level.
