- A 1970's RAF video showing the role of QRA, Quick Reaction Alert, and how the RAF responded to Soviet intruders. Scenes shot RAFWattisham, involving the Southern QRA. Those same QRA sheds now house the Lightnings of the Lightning Preservation Group at Bruntingthorpe Airfield in Leicestershire.
A lovely aircraft! I can remember this as an ad on TV.
Spot the error. Southern QRA scrable. Yet the track on the tote is clearly in the Northern QRA Area. Looks like tote is at RAF Neatishead in the tempory OP's room. The radar on roof gives it away as RAF Bucahn didnt have this.
The Footage was originally shot from the RAF recruiting film 'Intercept' and it was filmed at a number of locations most of which I have served at in one shape or another. The film covered the whole of the UK Air Defence System and the RAF Branches and Trades that supported it, (namely most of them). I would love to see the whole film as it covers a lot of kit I used to work on.
Some scenes were used in a show about the Avro Shackleton.
Liked that! Always good to see RAF Phantom footage. Would have liked to see that Phantom fire a line of 20mm cannon holes along that Badger fuselage. Followed by a Bloodhound knocking it out of the air! Such action I would guess might be a bit provocative.
the f4 was the plane i always wanted to fly when i grew up. Best looking aircraft ever.
The vietnam era camoflauge was the best looking imho.
Nice! Some memories for me as I served a groundcrew and took part in a few Q launches at WTM during the eighties. Thanks for posting this!
I thought the Q sheds looked familiar!
