    Like your what I call "Take the time to Smell the Roses" segments you have been adding to your recent videos. Especially refreshing during these challenging times.

    Thank you for the beautiful picture of your walk around the Mississippi. Nature is very therapeutic. I am presently enjoying walking down to the pond in our development and seeing some of the water birds come to me. Mallard ducks and some White and Canada Geese come to me to see what I have for them. Some of them eat from my hand, and I find it very therapeutic to be able to interact with birds. I also have had many struggles in life which, at one time, brought me to a state of depression. I have to say that what brought out of this state, and brought me to a much better place in life was when I established my relationship with Jesus. I found that this is what is real and when you look at nature, you are looking at a miracle. Faith in the reality of Jesus is really what has carried me through many more difficult times and gives me peace in this turbulent world. As far as stamps are concerned, I have been amazed at what I have been able to acquire, mainly from purchasing collections. The last collection I purchased gave me a nice looking US Scott #2, along with some other early stamps. Another collection I purchased completed my Duck Stamps from RW1 to RW59, plus it gave me most of the 1919 US offices in China overprints. One time I purchased an old album for not a lot of money and found a US 467 (5 cent carmine error). It is surprising sometimes what you can find in collections. In your quest for obtaining one of every US stamp, buying collections may be a good way to go.

    I've dabbled with British stamps since I was about 10, mostly used. Never really got close to any kind of completion. Since being rendered basically housebound by COPD I had been looking for something other than video games and You Tube to fill my time. In August this year I decided to "fill a few gaps", and dug out my albums. Things quickly got out of hand as I went shopping. I now have Edward VIII and George VI complete, and Elizabeth II from 1952 to 2006 complete, all unmounted mint. The old albums are exactly as they were when I dug them out. My bank account shrank by close to £2k in three months, and it isn't over yet. But then I look through the three new albums I bought to house it all and it just seems worth it. That 10 year old kid collecting 50-odd years ago could only dream of acquiring such things. But if I'm to continue with unmounted mint back through George V, Edward VII, and Victoria I'm going to need a sizeable lottery win to fund it.
    .

      Thank you for sharing! What I've found is that stamps can bring comfort and solace and that's priceless, to me, and then from there I've found a community of others that see things similarly. Really glad you've reconnected with a meaningful hobby, and then shared your passion for it here!

    Nice sentiments in your monologue, without having to get to deep into the woods. We all know what you meant. And it's a privilege to go to a safe space and chill out for a while. My safe space, like you, is to sit down and look over my stamp collection. Looking forward for your next installment. Always interesting, always fun.

    Another enthusiastic video, who would believe that stamps could provoke such joy apart from all of us subscribers of course. Just think what change could happen if all those disaffected people could just get a similar hobby and concentrate on that that instead of destruction.

    This was a fun video. On something like a Davo album (or a couple), I wouldn't want the seller to take any chances either 👍👍👍 Nice Office clips too 😁 And thank you so much for the starting message. I am not personally affected by these siruations (no family or close friends involved), but yesterday I was REALLY down about the world. Your aside was perfect.

    Your videos have been such a balm this week to distract from the news. It's really fun watching along as you work on the US stamp project! Davo produces a great product, and while I have used other hingeless albums before, I find myself coming back to them over and over; I think it's the beautiful coats of arms on the spine and cover that always catch my eye.

    Dear Mr. Silk, that was a very thoughtful and moving intro. I share your sentiments…terrible, violent news tonight from Israel, from here in Germany, and from other places.
    I‘ll continue watching now to find out what the snag is, while working on my stamp collection.
    I really do appreciate your videos: They are a wonderfully unique mix of uplifting fun, interesting and entertaining topics, and deeper thoughts and reflections. Thank you and best regards, S.

    Just got back from a walk in the woods in the backyard myself and sat down to watch the latest episode.
    Davo albums are the best; I have a (bad?) habit of buying them for various countries because they are just so well done.
    Good luck in your stamping quest!

    Glad you got that sorted and those albums were so securely wrapped. When you first mentioned your Davos project, I thought, “Oh maybe that is what I should do with my Canadian collection” Then I saw the price of the albums and thought, “ I’ll leave that up to Silk!” Thanks for the vid in this tough time. I hope you and those you care for can find comfort (I know stamps help you) somehow.

    I guess all is well that ends well. 🙂 I think you are doing pretty well with your budget so far, including all the expensive Davo albums. It is really fun and interesting to follow your quest for collecting all USA stamps as far as possible. It was also fun to see you working through the layers of packaging. 😆 You handled it pretty well - no fingers lost in the process. 🤣

    Great Video It’s nice to have a great album to keep and protect your stamps. I am the same , I use my stamp collecting to keep my sanity but at the same time learn a lot of history. Our weather here is changing, especially at nights. Currently waiting for stamps coming from different countries in Europe to fill my topical collections. Stay safe and Happy Collecting

    Always fun hearing about your journey. I’ve recently been working on my MNH US collection from 93 to present. Many of them I’ve found at face value. Even with that, it’s been extraordinary how much everything costs with so many being issued by USPS. Best of luck.

    Thanks for the sentiments in the beginning, really appreciate them. To think of such a beautiful planet that we all live on and it gets destroyed by some of us it is just heartbreaking and the wars of destruction and killing of us has to stop one day. I am very sick and tired of the whole situation, something has to intervene....and i wish the aliens would step in and warn us...The United Nations what has it done to heed peace, i don't know. just my 2 cents worth.

    $513.25 just for albums? Or including stamps as well? I'm getting ready to move from stock books to albums and curious what your suggestion would be for someone just starting out instead of Davo. Focusing on dead countries, a lot of British Commonwealth right now

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  9 месяцев назад +2

      Great question! I'll be more clear in the future... it's all in, everything I've spent (stamps and albums). I start off my collections in stockbooks, so that's probably what I'd suggest... then when I get to the point of having a fine collection that I want preserved and presented well I shift to an album. A more cost effective option than Davo is a Scott Specialty and you add the stamps using mounts... a fun part of the hobby, and less pricey... you can find those on Ebay etc too but you've got to be a bit patient, and trust the seller...

    If I hear another old person say "i've worked hard my entire life" I'm gonna pop. That is for other people to judge. The very fact that you've come to that determination is suspect. Its the people who were born with a silver spoon who think they have worked the hardest. Not for you to decide.

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  9 месяцев назад +1

      That's a good point, and I get it... don't let the hairline fool you, I'm not all that old... I, too, feel resentful sometimes to folks whose college was cheaper, cars were cheaper, housing was accessible, and prospects seemed brighter... what I thought about was what to do with it. I chose to work in nonprofits, it ain't an easy choice and far from profitable, but I chose it because I never forgot what it felt like to buy clothes from a pay by the pound store before the first day of 6th grade. From there, I've leaned into gratitude and thanks for what I've got, and that's helped lessen the resentments I still feel sometimes for others that seemed to have an easier path than mine. But I do understand your point and it's a fair one
