This is similar to my Skoda Karoq and was an absolute nightmare to try and get back into place. A trick I found was instead of angling towards the windscreen to see what you are doing. Push it down and make sure it pops inside the part of the dash near your car door as if not it won’t be down quite far enough and won’t line up properly. So if you fit the part closest to you at the bottom right (when working on drivers side of a U.K. right hand drive car) where the dash meets the door opening (it should slot inside the side of the dash) then angle around towards the windscreen it pops back in with no problems. It’s hard to explain but mine was pushed downwards down the side of the dash but was caught on the piece of dash nearest the door and so wasn’t quite going down enough on the side nearest the door. I also found it helpful to open the passenger door and remind myself exactly how the mirror image trim fits on that side.

Advice to put this piece back perfectly:
When roughly in position, get your fingers though the gaps and poke the 3 plastic nubs in an upwards position (they're very loose and will fall back down with a slight knock so be gentle) once theyre facing upwards, get out the car and look through the window though the gap to ensure all 3 of them are directly infront of the holes they go in to, once they're in position, give the piece a firm tap with the bottom of your fist all along the length of it, screw it in and you're done.
I'd recommend having the negative battery terminal disconnected for 15 minutes before hammer fisting this though if you have air bags.

And yet the damn thing still manages to rattle over the slightest imperfection in the tarmac...

heh a good workout :) who needs the gym. Hardest thing about doing these type of videos is placement of camera, often so awkward to show and do. especially with one hand. Your viewers and subs appricate it thank you. I do like the way you present your videos, not over long and show as much as you can in basic steps too. Keep it up.

Not something you want to do more than once, that looks difficult.

These are safety clips, you should slide them off the trim ( that's why slots in pillar are longer ). They need to be replaced with new ones - yours are now broken and should the airbag be deplyed entire pillar trim can breake loose at great speed.

Two of them are ment to keep the trim in place after curtain airbag deploys, the lower one(3th) should
Disengage to permit rupture /or disangagement so airbag can protect driver and rear passanger

The airbag deployment is complex and being simulated manny times by specialist, trim geometry updated even before it makes to production. Just as info to all tech people removing interiortrims out there😊

I couldn't manage to remove the two top clamps. They existed the plastic retainer by plastic/elastic deformation. I plan to replace both top clamps just to make sure i still have the CAIB working

Thank you, this worked for my 06 new beetle convertible. Didn’t have the speaker connected, or anything else so was even easier. Also didn’t have anything to get stuck on while pulling it out; sorry for your struggle on this model.
It doesn’t have the A-pillar airbag similar to this model car.
