For our short 6-hour visit to the bustling birthplace of pizza, we spent the day seeing as many of the iconic sights as we could like Castel dell'Ovo, Galleria Umberto I, and Piazza del Plebiscito; explored the popular streets of Spaccanapoli, Via Toledo, Lungomare Caracciolo, and Via San Gregorio Armeno (AKA Christmas Alley); and of course indulged in some of Naples’ most famous culinary delights like Espresso, Sfogliatella, and Pizza Margherita! 10 out of 10, would recommend a visit to Naples!

We’re Matt & Nat, a part-time, non-remote travel couple based out of Nashville, TN.
We launched in 2021 by visiting all 50 US states & documented our entire journey on our Blog & here on RUclips! After spending a full year focused on such a defined goal, 2022 left us feeling a little lost & wondering "What's next?". During one of our trips, we came across the book “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” & were immediately drawn in by it & knew that it had to be a part of our adventures. Have you ever had "The Best Pizza in The World"? If not, would you? & How would you eat it since the pizza wasn't cut? 🤣🍕
You're supposed eat it with fork and knife 🍴
Literally any other pizza place in naples is better than that tourist trap. As a cost cutting measure they use soybean oil instead of olive oil.
I think Naples is one of the most underrated cities! We stayed in an Airbnb 8 years ago behind the Piazza del Plebiscito and took a walking food tour. Yum! We also went underground on a tour which was amazing. I bought a cameo ring at the top of the incline next to the palace where there are two shops that make cameo jewelry.
Things have changed!! Naples is now full of tourists it's just impossible to walk freely. If you come again you will probably find a different city
Guys just an advice from a local: yes Napolitan pizza is very delicious and we are very proud about it, but it is "Napolitan pizza", no "Da Michele pizza" or "Sorbillo pizza". They are full of people because most of them are tourists, yes the pizza over there it's actually good but the service can be bad for the big amount of people they have to serve. Trust me, you would enjoy some other very good pizzas also in other places!

Had a feeling this was so. It’s called the best cuz it was mentioned in a popular book that became a movie, but as with most things that have tourist hype, it’s usually okay. And then the spots that locals take you to, they’re amazing! Anyway thanks for sharing❤
Where would you recommend?
I'd never queue for 1 hour for pizza, no matter how good it was. And I'm sure there 500 other pizza shops in Napoli that do excellent pizza too.

Before we went to Naples the first time, an Italian friend told us to pack a pair of kitchen scissors if we were going to eat Pizza, Pizza Fritta or Portafoglio on the go. It was a very good piece of advice.
Oh my gosh!!! ABSOLUTELY!! I wish we would’ve done that!! That would’ve been a game changer! Lol 😂👌🏼 we’ll have to add that to our free downloadable packing list for Italy! 🤣🍕✂️

As far as the stained shirt, I dropped chocolate gelato on a pair of shoes in Rome on my way to the Spanish steps and EVERY time I saw the stain on those shoes it reminded me of an amazing day in an amazing city. Napoli has long been my all time favourite city, alongside New York. The two have a very similar vibe to one another.
The “custard” inside sfogliatelle is ricotta flavoured with a little bit of orange.

No it is not. It is semolina, ricotta is inside cannoli…

Il paragone che fai tra Napoli e New York può sembrare singolare, ma ho tanti amici di là che mi dicono lo stesso. Anzi per loro Napoli ricorda la New York di una volta e sarebbe un complimento.
Una mia amica di Washington DC (scrittrice anche alquanto famosa) è completamente travolta da Napoli e dalla sua energia; quando vedo la città coi suoi occhi mi sembra di vedere cose che non vedo (la mia amica, ha ad esempio paragonata Spaccanapoli, ad un vertiginoso grattacielo orizzontale di cui si scorge il principio ma mai la fine).
Anche la presenza del Vesuvio è fortemente e quasi magicamente avvertita (sarà per questo che Andy Wharol gli ha dedicato tante delle sue opere?)

If you never been to any of them then I suggest all 3! Lisbon, Barcelona, and Rome would make for an epic birthday trip!
So sorry we're late to seeing this, but you really can't go wrong with any of those! We just got back from Lisbon and LOVED it! Portugal is the most affordable of the three from our experience. If you did Portugal, you could hit the Algarve, Lisbon, Sintra, and Porto. If you did Italy, the most popular itinerary would be Florence, Rome, and Venice. For Spain, you could do Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville... And maybe throw in Valencia because we LOVED it there! You could combine Spain and Portugal though and visit Lisbon, Sintra, Seville, and Madrid.
Again... I don't think you can go wrong with any of those! It really just depends on your interests and what you want to do on the trip. I hope that helps though! And feel free to reach out with any questions! Thanks so much for watching! -Matt

I really don’t care of anyone’s opinion about the “best of the best” pizza whatever they go but Pizza from Napoli isn’t anywhere in the world.
Once you have a Margherita in Napoli it’s impossible to match the quantity except within the city of Napoli

I’ve been there on a cruise like you when working on ships. Went to the same pizza place. Remembered it was a long wait to sit down but it was worth it. BEST pizza ! So glad you had a great time!! Loved the video guys!

We stayed in Napoli for a week. I was not impressed with their restaurant or street food, so we cooked at home. Thankfully, the ingredients are very fresh and delicious, so our food turned out to be delicious too. Good place to visit, observe the ancient history, listen to their music and specifically opera.
What did you cook? We are going there in March. My friend is vegetarian, and I have no idea what can we eat except pasta and pizza 😓

We were!! We took the scenic route by going to Gran Caffè Gambrinus first, but if you leave directly from the port, it’s a little less than a mile walk one way. Not bad at all! And there’s lots of people watching and site seeing along the way, so it goes by quickly. Hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching!😊

Come on, guys! Only six hours? Naples deserves 4 or 5 days for a visit if you want to have a minimum of its taste! And I am not talking only about food.
We would have loved to spend longer in Naples! Unfortunately, we were on a cruise and didn’t have much control over our schedule. But we think it’s better to see/experience something once (even if only for a short time) than hear about it a thousand times. You’ll miss out on a lot of amazing experiences if you wait till you can spend 4-5 days in every city that you want to visit. Thanks for watching!

I left my girlfriend back at the Excelsioir hotel and went solo on a dive bar tour. Taxi driver took me to a real dump. I had an attempted mugging but once we started talking, the mugger and I became friends. Needless to say it was a long night
