Basically the music video is about being positive, going at your own pace, and do what you love.
Like how they keep on saying “left and right” but then Joshua pointed the sign up, as if saying that “left and right” is not the only option and you can go wherever you want as long as you are happy.
There is also Jeonghan’s part (the first verse) where he said we are all at the starting line so we should always be alert and keep our head held high.
And there is Vernons part where he says haters are gonna hate so its best to keep quiet, don’t mind them, and do what you want.
Seungkwan’s part is also very interesting because he says “Running is already enough” as if saying its ok to slow down a bit.
I hope this made you understand

The meaning that I got from this MV was that it’s good to always be positive, happy and trying your best. And it is the message we always get from others. But sometimes things won’t always go as planned, you will fail, you will crash and burn and suffer burnout. So at those times, don’t beat yourself up too hard and just keep on going.
You can see this for example in the running scene. Where only Seungkwan ran. For me, I think it signifies the fact that even when you see others ahead of you i.e. having a better life and being more successful, don’t worry. Rather, just go with the flow, dance and relax.
It’s also present in Woozi’s scene. I’m guessing that him lying down might mean you’re tired from everything. So at that time, just do what your heart wants to do. It’s also a good mesage to us that when our friends are suffering or having burnout, one of the best things we could do is just be there. You don’t have to pry things out of their mouth. Rather, just take their mind off it. Like dancing for example.
Then, later on in Seungkwan’s verse, the lyrics really push the mesage they are trying to give. “Even if we run run run / When can we get ahead / Running itself is tough enough.” I take it as meaning there will be times where when you are working hard etc. you will feel discouraged. Because it’s hard. Nothing good ever comes easy. So what to do?
Wonwoo then answers this in the next verse. “Not running is also an answer.” So he gave us an option that rather than suffer more. Stop for a while. Take a deep breath. You deserve it.
Then, we come to Hoshi’s scene where he’s being tossed up. I took that as after we have stopped running, like Wonwoo said. Things will settle down and you will be able to get back on your feet and fly to the sky.
Next, when we are worrying about whether to go left or right. Which may be because we are confused, or that different people say to do different things. We put those thoughts away, look at the big picture. And realise there may be another way to go about this. Up. So up we go.
Next is S.Coups’ scene. This in my opinion, is either an alternative to what happens after we take a break or can just be another thing that would happen in this process of working hard and striving for something. Again, you can see the parallel with Hoshi’s scene. Both people are going up. And since S.Coups has a car, it might mean that you’re about to take on a higher risk endeavour. And lastly, we failed. We crashed. We struck the car into the ground. It’s destroyed. It can’t be recovered. But what do we do from there? Get out of that wrecked car. Brush yourself off. And dance. Find the next thing to do. Don’t get stuck on that failure. And if you noticed, when the car exploded, the arrow behind Mingyu turns down. Signifying that maybe after all, the answer is down. Not left, right or up. But down. And that from that failure, there’s always something to be learnt.
Because I think the essence of the MV and the song really is “Do your best. But maybe not sometimes.”

The MV really has a lot of symbolisms. Left & Right represents the choices that affect our lives in negative ways. Be it limitation, pressure, whatever. It’s basically about self-uplifting. If you read the lyrics, the chorus repeatedly shows us the options of left and right, but the next sentence says “Rip it, rip it!”, telling us the get rid of these limitations, hence Joshua turning the signs upward, and Scoups launching up to the sky. It is about celebration of basically not caring about these things that drag us down or make us feel down. The album is entitled as Henggarae which symbolizes the celebration, specifically of your own journey. They threw Hoshi up, that’s the literal Henggarae. For DK’s scene, it’s about the others not caring about everything else and dancing to their happiness. Woozi, lying on the ground, was not forced by others to join them cycling, instead, they just let Woozi there and danced around him. Seungkwan’s scene was about life as a marathon. He’s the only one who actually did it so seriously while the others just danced again. When he reached the billboard sign which said “The early bird catches the worm” and “Youth can change everything”, we can see him just sitting there without worries. Dino and The8 busking might represent passion and fun, that’s why there’s a graffiti on the wall saying Do your best. Wonwoo burned a book which had the title “Turn The Pain Into Power” in a campfire style which may represent companionship. Jun in the middle of the road was asking for help, and it’s fine. And lastly, Scoups crashing goes well with the graffiti at the latter part which said “Do your best, but maybe not sometimes.” Sometimes we fail to do our best, and it’s perfectly fine, just stand up, dust it off, and dance. Anyway, these are just my interpretations along with other ppls’ ideas. 😂

  • @blingshua7873

the mv and song is about like how in life, we always debate our choices very carefully (like left or right symbolizing us thinking hard about out choices) but sometimes, it gets tiring (as in seungkwan's line which basically said that running itself is already tough, so how much tougher is it to run ahead) but actually, we can just go in whichever direction we want to (when Joshua turned the sign to face upwards). However, as the graffiti on the wall also said 'do your best, but maybe not sometimes', which i personally saw as a message saying we all gotta do our best in everything, but sometimes it's fine to not get the results we wanted too. And also when Coups was shot up into the air, it was showing like we have to take our best shot at life, but it doesn't mean we'll always get the best results ( when his car crashed), but it's completely fine, we just have to take in stride and maybe try again next time ( when coups got out and started dancing again)
hahahaha sorry for such a long comment, but personally, this was my take from the mv and song!! :))

  • @Mysticalsnow9678
    @Mysticalsnow9678 4 года назад +1

This mv is actually very thoughtful and uplifting beneath all the crack and chaos LOL.
    LONG message ahead, I'm sorry!
Basically, the main point and message of this song and MV is to tell us that it's okay to "slow down" in life and take things in at our own pace. We're always being told that we need to always put 200% and more into everything we do, because life is a race hence "the early bird gets the worm." In this sense, life has turned into a competition in many ways. But instead of conforming to that quota, svt is telling us to screw that because life doesn't have to be that way, that we can choose to slow down if we need to and that it's okay. They show this in the mv when they literally get ready to race, but in the end only seungkwan runs and the rest of the members get up to dance with each other. And we see that later, Seungkwan runs and runs to be "first," and he's left alone with the saying "The early bird gets the worm," but he doesn't feel like he's won, and instead he's tired and alone. Was it really worth it to always be the one running through life without enjoying anything in the process? But it doesn't have to be that way because "Youth can change everything," meaning we have the power to break that cycle and choose our own lives for ourselves. It even shows in the lyrics when he sings "Even if we run, when can we get ahead? Running itself is tough enough." Often times, we lose ourselves in our own lives, always worrying about which way to go, which decision is best, what we're gonna be when we grow up, how we're going to live, education and going to school for years and years. We spend so much time "racing" and worrying about life, that we miss out on a lot of things life has to offer, and as the years pass, we get older and older without having living and experiencing life to its fullest.
Right after Seungkwan sings his part, Wonwoo comes in with "Then what should we do? Not running is an option too," while burning a book titled "Turn the Pain Into Power." Society has normalized running until you physically and mentally can't anymore, that until you've exhausted your body and mind, you haven't tried hard enough, or that you've failed. Svt once again comes in to say "screw that." While the phrase "turn your pain into power" is a powerful saying, in actuality it's much more complicated than that, and people often times use it to hide and ignore their own pains (emotions) and weaknesses. But our pains and weaknesses are what makes us human, and by denying those emotions, we are denying our humanity, forcing ourselves to go on when we can't anymore. When instead of running, we should be taking care of ourselves (our physical and mental health) and slow down to recollect and just live. Feel the things that you need to feel! Nobody can be at 200% at all times, and that's okay and you're not a failure bc of it. Even passionate people can burn out, and that's totally normal. People may demand things from you, but in the end, they are just that: other people. You go at your own pace, and live the life you want to, because in the end, its YOUR life to live.
The whole concept behind "left or right" is also pretty genius too. In the mv, there are signs all over the place pointing left or right. And its very representative of life in general. Life is always being compared to a crossroad where we have to decide which way to go, and sometimes, we don't always have an answer for that. But the way svt solves it in the end is really meaningful. Left or right is always the question, but what if we just go up? In the end, it doesn't matter which way you decide, just aim for the sky and rise above it all. And svt literally does this with scoups and the car. We see him take off, and explode before falling back down. And while he failed to stay up, scoups got back out of the car, brushed himself off, and continued dancing. There are going to be times in life when we fail, despite aiming high and trying our best. But in moments like that, it is important to pick ourselves back up, and try again. Failure doesn't define who you are, how you get back from it does. Like that saying goes "Fall down 7 times, get back up 8 more."
And scoups' part in this mv is heavily theorized by carats. While it's not official, many carats think that scoups' scene was influenced by his hiatus. As you know, late last year scoups went on a hiatus, and very recently came back. He explained to us in his hit the road ep what was going on, and how he felt like he was running away and disappointing everyone. He tried his hardest, and pushed himself to stay on stage for as long as he could, to the point where he was afraid that being on stage might traumatize him, and only left when he realized the extent of his physical and mental exhaustion. He didn't want to have that kind of memory, so he left the stage and took his hiatus. He gave his 200% for as long as he could, but it was only hurting him at that point, and he had to take a break or else he risked something terrible. And on this ongoing recovery after all these months, he was able to come back once again to us. With the love and assurance of the members and carats, he was able to face the stage again. That's why I think that last phrase "Do your best, but maybe not sometimes" hits differently. Because its okay to not always be at your best, forcing yourself to be, can end up hurting you more in the end. Go through life at your own pace, whether you walk or run, it's all up to you, just remember to have fun and just live.
    TLDR;
SVT says "YOU DO YOU." Life shouldn't be a competition, it should be a celebration, so sometimes you just gotta henggarae baby! Its okay to not be fine!!!

leader line symbolism in the mv is what really caught my attention. (of course this is all according to me)
    - scoups being the one to literally crash and burn as the members watched is alluding to his 4 months on hiatus. but him getting out of the crashed car, dusting himself off, and dancing actually made me tear up a but ngl.
    - woozi as a person is very grounded in reality and while he may not seem like it he really needs of the energy of his members.
    - hoshi is more of an upbeat person especially around people he's comfortable with and he also needs of of the members' energy but he's more outlandish in his excitement.
    - dk (yes he is part of the leader line don't fight me on this) is more torn between counting himself as a leader or as just a member of svt which is why we see him unable to choose which side to go to.
i mean i could be 1000% wrong but this is pretty much how i see it in my eyes.

  • @101bookaholic

Scoups dancing at the end even after crashing is basically the embodiment of that last phrase "Do your best but maybe not sometimes"

As you see here 1:45 seungkwan run and ended up here 2:26 and there is board that says early board catches the worm it means that if you work early you will succeed and him running signifies that he we will go to work early as you see in the background it's Early in the morning. One more thing none of the members run except for seungkwan and the mv signifies that you should do what ever you want in your life like yolo
That's just my theory thanks for reading

OMG!!!! THANK YOU FOR REACTING, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOUR REACTION SINCE THEIR COMEBACK💗 I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS! The music itself and the mv means that we always overthink things. We always want to know where to go, but if we don't know where maybe the only way is to keep going up and we may fail but at least we learn from it and we still stood up and continue loving and appreciate life! That's what I think it is, just know that seventeen always cheer us up, always💗💗 "Do your best, but maybe not sometimes"

dang, if this is bizarre to you you’d be feeling high seeing NCT mv’s, maybe even a lot of other sm artist’s mv’s, like red velvet with the m*rdering of the pizza guy in bad boy 🤩
even if the song is called left & right, the message behind it is something like there’s no need to be afraid of choosing from left & right because you can just go forward/high because svt are also there for you. seungcheol falling and then proceeding to dance meant (to me) that even if you end up failing on what you decided on, just stand back up and enjoy life, since the hardships pass by and things will get better if you have a positive outlook on things.
someone from the comment s called “sum girl” explained the mv well!

YASSS! It's the core of the Heng:garae album. It means throwing someone into the air when you're celebrating. Seventeen wants to give that fresh vibes not only perfect for summer but also to celebrate our youth together. Welcome back Elliot!! Love your reaction and miss you si much! You should also try checking out their comeback shows especially "Fearless" which is an epilogue to Fear and I can't explain how insanely good the performance was. Thank youuuu
