Thank you for posting this video. I don't know why it was made but it sure brought back good memories. I'm a Desert Storm veteran and an ol' refer hauler (runincool) from the pacific northwest that's seen better days (living on SSD) and this video allows me a few minutes to "quietly" reflect. Many thanks. Hope to see more like this one.
I have the same motor & truck. 4.08 rears for pulling hills in PA. I just got a full set of turbo back 6" straights with Aussie cut tips. I had debacles mufflers but I decided on straights. You can't beat the sound of a CAT.
Nothing like the sound of a cat , The turbo whistle sounds just like a jet in flight , I remember making trips to Mexico to pickup pottery loads in Tijuana back in 78 with the first Aerodyne to come out from KW, My boss ordered the Bicentenial edition conventional built to celebrate the 200 years as United states , It had a red white and blue color scheme , it had a3406 cat that whistled dixie, it also had a 286" WB , we added some accent chrome but it didn,t need alot since it was already nice!
@tannerair no doubt that when it comes to HEAVY haul, you australians are in a class all by yourselves. head & shoulders above the rest!!! very impressive!!!
i thought he done one hell of a job shifting pulling that grade and shifting with his left hand good job mash that gas and tote that ass driver gotta love kitty power def with a fat load. ive got an 07 pete 475 with an 18 and 8 in strights gotta love it
Gotta love the big dozer engines, I call them. My brother has an acert 550hp, 928 cubic inch, the monster pulls like a train and he can run as fast or faster than my Cummins, but, my lil 855 cubic inch 525hp N14 can close the gap up any of our little hills in North and South Dakota when I'm following him. We both run at 93 thousand pounds and feel like big fat targets for DOT anywhere south of the dakotas If I didn't like my N14 so much I'd like to have the bigger 3406E or 6NZ Cat modified up to 800hp ..I guess there's a smaller displacement of the 3406E as well. I have twenty years in auto and heavy truck parts and heard a lot of good things about S60 Detroits too
i drive a 2002 Kenworth T800 with a C-15 cat and a 10 speed and man i would be in like 6th gear climbing that hill at 20mph but i haul feed for dairys so im usually about 105,500 lbs haha impressive truck to say the least
I remember pulling loads up these hills on I-90. damn freightliner i had couldn't do it nearly as fast as you're doing it. somedays i miss driving OTR others i'm glad to be home everyday.
Had this exact same engine in my old international. Didn't like, most of my pays were spent fixing it and paying for fuel. It was way too loud too, I like loud trucks and the sound of a 550 CAT but it gets really irritating after driving for a few hours. 3406E is my favorite cat engine in terms of reliability.
@jaidenworth You are right jaidenworth.., on coast work between metro centers, but you still see very very few at all on the real work out in the desert as Road Trains, that is still very much a place for Yankee Iron only, here in NZ we have both short term lease Scania's & company owned KW's in our fleet and I have to say that our new cabover KW's are very smooth and very very quiet.., that gap has well and truly closed up now...
The new cats suck with all the EPA pollution bullshit on them they aint like they used to be. Id love to get into a Pete or KW with a C 15 3406 or 550 straight piped an haul like this man Keep on Truckin
@SeiskaTie Mate I can tell you that here in NewZealand we have both American and also Euro available to us and it is a known fact that if you are looking for a long term option in the bush on logs you ALWAYS go for the American Iron namely Kenworth and if you are looking for a short term lease option under service contract you go for Euro options, that is no sh1t, we have heard many stories of problems with the new 480 that even Scania have lost a lot of confidence in selling them...
The pipes sound nice but for being an OTR driver I would guess they get boring after awhile. My old cars rear end howled a lot, it would be fine if you turn up the radio but sometimes you didnt want the radio up loud. At about 85 though the exhaust was just loud enough to drown out the howl but not be to loud that the exhaust is then annoying.
@poldrag08 not gunna lie when i moved to Germany for a year i drove a Scania they actually haul really nice i was impressed but mine had an International engine
@SeiskaTie I dunno ... I count him doing about 100km/h, presumably in top gear... then hitting a steeper grade and having to shift down, once. Then back up to top, and a single downshift once more, as the road undulates. Probably at better than 85k for the whole duration. Passing other trucks like they're standing still, and not being hugely embarassed by the cars. And eventually ending up at ~2500ft elevation, or 760m, which is no mean climb from the ~180m of Vantage about 15km away. Your move
Pretty sure you've got your windows cracked. I own a similarly equipped '02 t800...550 6nz, 13sp, 6" pipes with the external air cleaners and its nowhere near that loud with the windows up. Nice try anyway.
@poldrag08 gee them lanes are a bit narrow are'nt they where you have to go in the other lane to overtake looks abit unnerving look left and right to over take or the truck being overtaken sits on the fog line then pulls back in
Man, videos like this just make me want to hurry up and turn 21 and start trucking over the road!
Are you trucking now?
time flies dont it, hows trucking?

AWESOME, i want to be a trucker when i grow up, i'm still 36.
I have the same motor & truck. 4.08 rears for pulling hills in PA. I just got a full set of turbo back 6" straights with Aussie cut tips. I had debacles mufflers but I decided on straights. You can't beat the sound of a CAT.
Let that man rock n roll during his job! Sweet sound and good music choice *thumbsup*
notice that C15 smoking past those trucks loaded uphill! nothing like a CAT !

i thought he done one hell of a job shifting pulling that grade and shifting with his left hand good job mash that gas and tote that ass driver gotta love kitty power def with a fat load. ive got an 07 pete 475 with an 18 and 8 in strights gotta love it
The last cat I heard was 20 years ago. Thanks for the memories, felt like home again!

I see all these comments about the music and I can here the Jake engine sound just fine even with the music on
What a pull uphill, then the sudden drop. Nice.
What a long steep gradient, almost as long and steep as the one from Dead sea to Jerusalem
😂😂😂😂
this CAT sounds aweome!!!! but when you down shift it sounds even better!
I-90 near Vantage, long climb heading west. Many truck engines have blown up pulling that hill.
Jesus the camera works like it a free fall from the sky without the chute.
Hell Yeah Driver! Made me miss rollin around the country! Keep the rubber on the road and keep on truck'in! Over and out!
Love love love the cat best engine out there
I remember pulling loads up these hills on I-90. damn freightliner i had couldn't do it nearly as fast as you're doing it. somedays i miss driving OTR others i'm glad to be home everyday.

Does this happen to be in Kansas?
Cats the only way to go in my opinion. Wat kind of rig is this.
Look at the CAT purr
@poldrag08 gee them lanes are a bit narrow are'nt they where you have to go in the other lane to overtake looks abit unnerving look left and right to over take or the truck being overtaken sits on the fog line then pulls back in
