- All serious trophy hunters know there are unspoken rules you must never break when earning those sweet platinum trophies. And all serious trophy hunters have broken them anyway. I agree with Rob on the difficulty point. If you don't need to play on the hardest difficulty for the trophies why bother. Got the plat for God of War on Normal. Used the Save scumming method for Steel fist expert on Uncharted 1. Completely recommend. Games are made for fun. Trophies are a bit of extra optional fun. If people don't like how you get them, well so what.
Absolutely right - they're there to be tackled in any way the individual sees fit!

It's really rare that you can get a platinum without hard mode, GoW really surprised me on that front, as well as every other front.

I can't believe you didn't mentioned advancing the clock to get trophies that requires specific dates or time away from the game. But anyway, great job guys. Love to see Dan still on the team.
Ashamedly, Mile High Club in Modern Warfare. After 8 hours of trying to achieve the trophy in one minute I discovered you can drop the difficulty to recruit then right at the last moment increase back to veteran to achieve the trophy. It got me the platinum. I'm still proud to achieve it overall though.
I've done most of these a few times. I've got 73 platinums. Not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but in the journey to getting those plats I've done enough tedious, grindy and borderline torturous trophies to feel like I've earned enough credit to perform the occasional trophy cheese. Some highlights:
- Buying the remaining trophies in the NieR:Automata post-game. Even save scummed via external drive to have enough credits to do it, too!
- Enabling the easy mode on Celeste where you're able to jump infinitely to cheese some of the harder B-sides and C-sides.
- Using developer mode on Subnautica to get all the trophies easily in about 2 hours.
And perhaps most dastardly of all...
- On Final Fantasy IX's PS4 port, you need to skip over the jump rope 1000 times to get the Hail to the King trophy. I swear no normal human being can get that trophy legitimately, so I used remote play on my laptop and used an AutoHotKey macro script to jump rope at the exact timing required, tweaking the latency to compensate for my network issues. Amazingly, that wasn't even the worst trophy to get on that brutal list, but I still got the platinum in the end.

@@pepin836 I got ABCDE endings, and a couple I got by mistake. Every other trophy I bought. I still feel the shame in my bones.
I did the same thing for ffix and I have no regrets!
I did the Developer Mode style thing to get it for the free PS+ game this month for Ark: Survivor Evolved.
I don’t refer to it as “Save Scumming.” I simply call it “time traveling.”

The Uncharted: Drake's Fortune one. I had to beat it on crushing difficulty and I was really trying... until I reached the ambush on chapter 5. Tried quite a bit and was unable to do it, so I had to resort to the worst tactic ever - crouch moving left and right for about 2 minutes until I clipped through a wall in order to skip most of the game.

You could've also used the Super Slow motion exploit on Crushing or Brutal. Finished an encounter on the beginning of Chapter 6 in the very first attempt when activating it, after struggling for more than 15 attempts before.
Rob has liberated me from thinking I have to play on normal or hard when it's not necessary. my quality of life has drastically improved
Personally I don't think there is no shame in breaking some rules for earning trophies especially since they're those that are just grueling, extremely difficult, unfair, and next to impossible.

But then what is your reason for having them at all? Literally the entire point of their existence is for people to say "I did this". I'm not an achievement hunter by any stretch, in fact I loathe people doing things in games only for achievement points, but one of the types of people I despise more are the people that can't even get the points legitimately. It's pathetic. If you don't enjoy getting the achievments, then just don't get them. It's not hard.
Nobody cares about your platinums or whatever and you know you didn't earn them, so I really struggle to see any way these people can truly believe what they're doing is right, fair, or worth it.

@@SamSEnix Explain what you mean by this, because if anything, it shows I'm the opposite. I'm hyper-competitive and don't understand why people waste time getting virtual points that mean absolutely nothing even when you get them without cheating.
Got my 130th platinum today and I’m guilty of all of these. Would do it again and probably will.

Using glitches is where I draw the line.
I'd love the Hollow Knight plat, but the pantheons and Trial Of Fools are way too hard for me. I hear there's an invincibility glitch, but I refuse to go there. I'll just accept some plats just aren't for me
It's important to know when to throw in the towel, or even just take a break!
I got the plat fo hollow knight legit and it took me at least 50h of trying in patheon then i found about the invisible glitch inwas so mad thatbi didnt see it before at least it done.

I *love* the game, but I think it has the most difficult plat I've ever attempted. Wish I had the patience and skills. I've tried, but I reached the point where I'm just not _gittin'_ any _gudder_ !
Sure you could've used the invincibility glitch, but it would have felt like a hollow victory (pun kinda intended 😄)

Here is something someone once said, and I took it with me, and remember it everytime, when it comes to both trophies and a certain type of games. "This game cheats, so I'm going to cheat back"
I'm not ashamed to admit that I got the platinum in NieR:Automata by buying the rest of the trophies that I hadn't unlocked yet.

I agree and did all of them. In terms of difficulty, i always tried to do the hardest difficulty at first, because most of the times it stacks so after one run i am done. And use normal or easy mode to get all the collectibles and misc achievements.
This was hillariously entertaining, good job Access as always!
For final fantasy XV, one of the trophies was to walk around and fully max out the survival level. When I got the car I used that everywhere without realising I needed to walk around to get this trophy.
So.... I tied a hairband around the joysticks to make my characters run around in circles and went out for couple hours and I maxed out the level and was able to get the platinum
I did the same thing. Only one missed Was the walking trophy 😄
I only have 2 trophy hunting rules:
1 no hacking (but glitches are fair game)
2 do it yourself (if it involves multiplayer, friend assists are fair game)
If you did it with an official, unmodified version of the game and no one else's hands on your controller, then you did it.
However taboo it may be, I don’t think anyone is a true trophy hunter until they’ve cheesed a multiple play-through requirement with save states.

I can’t believe save scumming is a sin. I think showing “hidden” trophies and seeing what the requirements are to obtaining them is way more of a sin than saving the game prior to making a choice lol
Agreed on this one. I don't chase plats (I got one, purely accidental) but I have multiple saves of a game at logical points so I can watch the different endings without grinding through the whole thing again, because grinding is not something fun for me (the exact reason I never finished a single FF game).
Note: actually, 2 plats. The second one I did lookup the requirements after playing the game for 4 months I figured I look up how easy/hard it is to plat.

My most recent is getting the Dragon Quest XI Platinum by reloading to an earlier part in order to get that last costume for Jade. I mean I already beat the game, but the last extra hidden boss was too much
I used the rubber band technique for the Final Fantasy XV max survival trophy. I lost my previous save data so I had to start the game over!

It's great to see Dave back for a few shots. October must have been gruelling for him, listening to Rob and Nath torturing him during his Outlast playthrough. Ash is really settling in and leaving her stylish stamp on the access ensemble.

@John Trewhella First, it was Dan, then Nath, but Dave does on screen & behind, he is may not appear on screen as much but i hope he doesn't get phased out altogether for a younger crowd. Rosie and Ash are a good pairing, but we need the old guard, Dave & Rob, to steer the ship.
I think boosting has its place for us trophy Hunter, for example, playing a game and trying to get the multiplayer ones when the multiplayer has no one on
On number 3, literally everyone does that for sure. Get that hardest difficulty completion, but then go back to easy for clean up on miscellaneous trophies. That's just the meta, not cheating.

be proud of boosting Rosie. the whole point of multiplayer games is to play with friends (if you have them. or friendly strangers) and friends help each other out. so show that trophy proudly.

Yeah that's not even a sacred rule, its common sense. Now the old Uncharted thing of being able to play just the final checkpoint on crushing was a cheat, but I did it.

#8 Using RUclips or a guide for the 'collecting 100% of item ABC' trophy in a sandbox game - Infamous' shards for my first platinum, totally worth it!
I'm pretty sure these are common practices for trophy hunters, with the exception of getting someone else to do it.
I'd give this vid a platinum trophy if I could for how hilarious it is (nice to get a peek of Dan too)! Ash telling Rob to shut up is comedy I didn't know I needed 😆
In Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero back on the PS2, in order to unlock the highest level upgrades your car needed to have driven at least 1892KM in the game. Auto pilot on, controller down, bed time and the genesis of “trophy spamming” began

My favorite trophy breaking thing I can do is tide into Rob's is when it asked to play the game at the hardest difficulty but it'll let you do it a new game plus so I'll just have everything maxed out so it's a cake walk either way
Playing a game on "easy" when it is an option provided by the game - it isn't breaking the rules. I mean many games have an "accessibility" option list now. So, that clearly means adjusting a game to suite your "play style" is perfectly fine.
Over my last few trophy hunts, Iv’e realised that there is very little I won’t do if a platinum is involved. I’m not proud… but I kinda am…

I got the FFVII platinum in 5 seconds by booting up my PS4 file on the PS5. WINNING! How good did it feel.......? It felt.............. GLORIOUS!!!!!

Mine is switching off the vibration setting for my controller to play Until Dawn and get the platinum for that (as well as using guides)... And I don't care that I did that. No regrets!!
Revert back to patchless version to be able to use glitches, or use glitches that were never patched, or use debug menues
There was a glitch on a ratchet and clank game where if you could fall through the floor on a hover board, it would shower you with bolts. Just afk and the get the money trophy even though it took hours.
Not for Trophy hunting but the last one reminds me of something I would do in Fallout. Check a guide to see what each reward would be on side quests if there were different people to give an object to or the option to keep whatever it was.
I thought looking up guides for collectibles would be one the list. That's my biggest sin!

I save scum whenever I can to avoid playing through games multiple times. The best was Platinuming Bloodborne in one playthrough. The Souls games were different in that you had to play through each game at least 2 1/5 times to get the Platinum. The silver lining is that I got to spend hundreds of hours in these engrossing worlds. Can't wait to Platinum Elden Ring!
I totally disconnected from online and messed with the system clock in order to get the Calendar Man achievement in Arkham City.
I've got 430 platinum trophies... Most of them are ultra rare and hard to get... With that being said, I also have broken the rules of trophy hunting myself! I mean, it's bound to happen, y'know? 🏆😅
In the 98 platinums I have... I cant say I have had anyone get a trophy for me... for I am a loner with no friends!

I feel like such a sucker these days, getting all this enjoyment out of this channel for free. I use to watch Wil Wheaton on tabletop forever until it got caught up in the pay per view stuff. If the Access staff made a t-shirt I would probably buy one.
I once tried to get the multiplayer trophy in Alien Breed: Impact, but using my feet to control the second controller. It did not end well.
Happily, I got the 4-player Gold trophy in Castle Crashers by syncing four of my Dualshock 4 controllers
