I had to stop using Sorcerer's in my playthroughs. My sword and board ass barely got to play when I had a Sorcerer in the party cuz they're dropping fucking meteors on everything
I am someone who does think good enough gameplay can make up for a mediocre story. The issue is, i think the dd2 story is genuinely awful, its doesnt feel like a story as much as it does a consecutive series of events. As for the gameplay, its very fun and incredibly good, but the fights stop being fun when you fight the same band of goblins for the 200th time with minimal variation. The bigger monsters were fun but there's nowhere near enough of them.
DD1 had a barebones story with Grigori's monologuing carrying it imo but it existed. DD2's story was fucking GARBAGE. Like actual ass. Hell, nothing even resembling a story even happened until like 60% in and that was referencing the TRUE Ending. Fucking wild they thought was the route to go.
I don’t understand what people mean when they say the story is bad or garbage. I truly love the story of both games lol I love piecing everything together almost like a souls game. The world has its own history and lore on top of the overall story with the dragon vs the arisen and the pathfinder. Just like the first game I don’t think the story gets near enough credit. I was blown away when you basically become god at the end of the first game lol and love that the whole story is a test to find the next sovereign.
The same thing happens in Elden Ring with Cuckoo Soldiers and Knights, Godrick Knights and Soldiers, Radahn's Soldiers and Knights, Miquella's Soldiers and Knights, Leyndell Knights and Soldiers. Honestly, this argument is biased. Unless you read the weapon and armor descriptions, Elden Ring is not very good at face value. Both have issues, but I don't think DD2 is nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.
i love ddda and dd2 i wish capcom had actually put more faith into it though, it had less developers, smaller budget and overall not all the resources it needed to thrive. we can only hope kento comes back for dlc but if he doesn't it's truly over
100% agree bro, i went in blind and was just exploring for the first 70+ hrs of the game, by the time i got to the main quest i was so overpowered it just took the fun out of everything, and all the quests kinda became tedious and time consuming. a lot of missed potential and thats sad fr
This is not missed potential. This is you guys ruining a game for yourselves. Open world rpgs where all enemies scale make it feel as though you never get stronger. The game is fucked but not for this reason 😂

Oof i feel a lot of this. Capcom has always been one of my favorite gaming companies. I remember playing Onimusha back in the day as a kid and thinking it was the greatest thing ever made. I want to love Dragon's Dogma 2 more
Dragon's Dogma II is a game that I beat that makes me angrier and angrier every time I have thought about it since. This game needed a hard mode so bad. The thing that I hated the most - that caused me to quit the game in the middle of my second playthrough - was the fact that EVERY. SINGLE. PERISHABLE. ITEM. in my storage at the time that I beat the game had become rotten. Those perfectly preserved Medusa heads, rotten. All those harspuds I'd saved, rotten. ALL OF MY FUCKING MEAT, ROTTEN. EDIT: The only character whose name I remember is Disa. And that's because I kept using the pun "Disa Nuts."
Exploring the world was incredible. I felt the pressure, the challenge, new enemies could beat me up, finding new locales and new enemies was great. Eventually I got too strong and could just steamroll stuff, so I changed vocations with earlier gear, got my ass beat again, and had fun learning the new stuff, but eventually I ended up back where I started. The main story was snoozeville. I got too powerful too quickly. I needed better endgame enemies and more variety. The unmoored world bosses were neat, I guess! Fuck Talos! It's as you say. Gameplay was heat. I could play warrior for hours. I did, in fact. But without new challenges it cannot shine. Dark Arisen 2, save me.
Alright question for people disappointed in DD2: I played DD 1 back in the day, only one playthrough, but I loved it. Was happy to see the unexpected sequel come out. I held out playing DD2 until recently because the optimization is finally at a spot where I see it as playable. So far, I am enjoying the game a lot and it seems to be a great sequel. So my question to those that are disappointed with DD2 is, if a DLC came out that added a bunch more creatures, difficulty scaling, and added a "endless content" type mode like Dark Arisen, would you then be happy with the game? I ask this because those are the main 3 things I can logically get behind that old fans are criticizing. I get that the story wasn't great but to my understanding (and my experience with the one playthrough of DD1) the story was never really a big focus of Dragon's Dogma. I'm asking this because besides those 3 things, which in my opinion a well-done DLC could easily fix all three, I can't really find a clear picture of what everyone is disappointed about. If it is only those three things, why do people talk like this is some lost cause disappointment that cannot be fixed? Like I said, one well done big DLC can absolutely fix all three of these issues, much MUCH bigger things have been done in DLC for other games. Just trying to understand the community a little more, as of right now I'm a bit confused.
Something that helped my game run better was to play in 1080p. Anything higher was making my game chug and my OBS crash during live streams. I have an i9 CPU and a 3070 card with the desire to play modern games in 1440p or higher, but alas t'was forced to compromise. Your videos are awesome, man. I subbed.
The most baffling thing to me with dragons dogma 2 was the lack of hard mode and an infinitely replayble dungeon. I feel like the giant, mostly unused and inaccessible tower (save for ONE fight and cutscene) we start AND end the game at, could've been used for this very purpose. iirc, there is an npc that says something along the lines of that there is "something underneath the tower" and it really doesn't get any explaination, unless they were talking about medusa. I was so certain that it was gonna be more than than it actually was. Honesty, dd2 felt like a playground in which to test how the new RE engine would hold up graphics for monster hunter wilds.
Loved the video. A lot of what you said spoke to my soul. DD2 was a huge step down from the first. The most infuriating thing for me was thinking I was about 25% done with the game and I was put into the final fight with Gregory and the epilogue.
I'm sad to say how much I agreed with this video. If we get anything akin to Bitterblack Isle, at least we could get an infinite gameplay loop? Kind of reaching though.
I feel the same way... You summed up my entire dilemma; I stopped playing the game back in like May and have been criticizing it ever since, yet always sprinkle a bit more praise into it than I probably should. Hell I still encourage people to play it for themselves whenever I get questions about it. Its a deadening juxtaposition of having faith in its potential and realizing that, at some level that I've either accepted or haven't, the game has failed the expectation... despite the love somewhere deep down that I still have for it.
I wonder if everyone here has already played the other DD games first? So, I'm just an outsider looking in (never played any of the DD games). Does anyone think that their expectations for this game could potentially eclipse how much they actually enjoyed it? I mean if you removed your feelings from the DD games you played before, like the original's never existed, would you still value the experience? I understand and appreciate the passion and expectation, but wonder if someone started with this game and then had to work their way back, would they have a different perspective on this game? What if this was their entry point, how would that play out? Maybe DD2 is the experience that they prefer? Anyway, great channel & great vid, I'm always looking forward to your next one! Thank you!
DD2 felt too short / small.., like only 3/4-1/2 finished.. ... MSQ ended too fast & the map didn't extend far enough as hoped.. ... still my favourite new game of 2024
14:46 Omg finally! I was so disapointed with the story. It was tedious at times and veered off to incredulous and kind of dumb. The sidequests were a tiny bit better, but only like 5 of them were good, And the amount of crashes i got for just trying to add skills to my vocation made me quit. I had game breaking bugs all throughout the game and the traveling was unbearable, populated with the same five enemies.

It’s a great first play through game but after i got about halfway through i was so op that it was all trivial. Had to force myself to finish it and that’s with a bunch of mods to make it harder.
I love it, one of my favorite games in my last 2 years , next to Remnant 2 & Elden Ring. My only complaint is the DD2 community sucks. Its all a bunch of complainers and whiners. Spoiled brats, who are never satisfied with any game.
@@thewise_1one856 ah, dude, you got good taste. I think it’s a little unfair to call the entire community a bunch of whiners, but I understand what you’re saying. Even prior to release, there was a lot of toxicity and catastrophizing on the DD2 subreddit alone. I think post release a lot of the dissatisfaction is pretty justified. Like, I’m still surprised and happy we got a sequel at all, but said sequel didn’t improve or build on the first game’s problem areas and in some areas made things worse. I think a lot of people rightfully share this opinion.
My only ONLY hope is that any DLC we get for DD2 actually does something to improve the base game but I doubt it. Personally, I enjoyed DD2 (might be coping) but the fact it's also a Step Down from DD1 at the same time is insane to me at the same time. I just had fun with it, I think it game me the feeling of exploration that Skyrim did for other people on release. I'm just baffled they decided to revamp stuff people LOVED in DD1 fpr the worse or not carry stuff over into DD2 at all.
I just don't understand how you played for so long after seeing what it was... I made it a few hours into a 2nd playthrough, and that was it. It was fun for about 2 weeks, then the disappointment set in.
@@CerosTelevisionIt be like that and it's painful. I experienced that feeling after nearly 1k hours in Elden Ring. Had 300gb of edited footage of all my time from PVE to PVP. Beat the DLC before the patch. Realized it was subpar and deleted it ALL. All the footage. The game itself. It left such a sour taste that I can't be bothered to play anything else made by Fromsoft anymore. By extension all of gaming. Left with nothing to do while I hunt for employment. All I do now is stare at walls, glare at my collection or rarely listen to a RUclips video.
@@DooDoo-f4v go pirate disco elysium, might freshen your palette a little bit. It is in a lot of ways more of a book than a video game, but it should take you less 20 hours to complete a run and it is the only time a video game has ever had good writing.
Lol yours and Super Rad's videos about DD2 are such great ways to describe how DD2 is. Such a great game on its own. I'm 130 hours in and I'm still consistently playing, but comparing to DD1, the sequel made such missteps that didn't exist in the first or even the same mistakes in some cases lmao. I'd get it if this was the first game in the series, but the sequel didn't learn from its mistakes. But I still fucking love DD2 lmao
Honestly the only thing I disagree with is the unmoored world That was honestly my favorite part of the game with it being more difficult and with a main goal and time limit But that’s just cause I play open world games in a way where I only do what i come across and don’t like going out of my way for things if I don’t find them naturally. But with dd2 it was a situation where like idk it didn’t feel like anything else was unfound after the first play through
i will say this, watch the dragons dogma anime, it explains the lore very well, and its more gruesome than the colorful vibe dd2 gives. the game has no depth past gameplay, they only needed an online co op and a live service aspect of the game. everyone wanted a fantasy mmo esc thing that is REALISTIC to an extent. the graphics and movement is why i like the game that is tbh, but atleast Soulframe is being made, which will probably be what dragons dogma fumbled to be fantasy with decent graphics and movement (motion matching & warping) and power fantasy anime vibes. but enough yap dd2 needs online thats it.
Was gonna say this before, but I felt it was better to wait You're basically in an abusive relationship with Capcom. It's ok to be a fanboi for the developer side. We all actually love the devs... most of 'em. But the publishing side is just horrible--industry wide I think. There's quite a few horrible companies that really fuck over all of us together. Capcom isn't a straight up monster like some companies IMO. Capcom could turn it around! We could always tell ourselves that...
great job it does feel dd2 was not how i want it, what of the chimera its somthing wrong with it? i feel it one of these games done myth creatures right i do wish we had more enemy types it feels little in dd2
DDON feels what dragon's dogma should be it has a better story. season 2 ending made me cry in tears, the enemies are great feel they can easily be in dd1 what of the chimeras? , the classes are better and great,
It looks like the same or similar results you would expect from youtube's automatically-generated subtitles. Why he would hard code those into the video, without fixing the errors, is a very good question that I would also like to know the answer to
@@CerosTelevision ah yes constant irony, peak comedy, no seriously, always be in the gradient between joke and sincerity, you're a nice guy. love your content, ill be subscribing, but the notification bell stays off.
I think you should have waited a year to play it. I have not bought it yet, waiting for them to fix it. It is going well, they are making it better and better. The patch today was gigantic. I know it does not fix the story. Really really really enjoyed your video, thank you.
One of the issues of the story is the poor translation of Japanese to English that occurred. The story actually has a lot more depth than is actually there in English. Still doesn't change that ten years later they couldn't make better character interactions, writing, and depth. Places with NPCs still feel lifeless, whether Elves or thief village, you could not pay me to care as there is hardly anything there. The writing of dragon's dogma outside the philosophy of the world is as large as an ocean, shallower than pond. Ruins most the fun.
@@CerosTelevision unfortunately, they’ve ended their wonderful run of content creation. The negativity and division in the DD community can get pretty bad.
I had fun cause i was level 80 on my new game 7 run what are yall doing to power grind like that for me everything practically one shot me near the end though even at level 40 gregory was too easy but i feel he wasnt meant to be the biggest challenge
I'm right with you, bro. When i found out we were getting a DD2 i nearly popped a blood vessel. Dd2 is the most disappointing game of all time for me. It could've been one of the best ARPGs of all-time... instead its lower-mid. Damn shame.
I checked back periodically to see if they had finally fixed this game and they seem to have basically released it and walked away. I don't regret not letting them keep my money.
Bruh like 1 or 2 days after you dropped this they actually added a difficulty setting....... an easy mode. They are kicking dirt in our faces at this point bruh. I have big hopes for an expansion
I'm a big fan of the first FOREVER. Still broke AF and can't afford the sequel. Idk if I'd ever get it unless it was on sale. Solo Warrior Bitter Black Isle is crazy intense and I recommend all the fellow masochists to give it a whirl. Kilth and Kin still tugs at my heartstrings.
They've got the rare chance to do a sequel of a niche game which didn't sell well with more than 10 years of great games to take inspiration from, and they've failed so hard... It's not an unplayable game at all but the potential was so great, imo it was hard to miss this sequel it's crazy. I wanted what From Software did with Demon souls -> Dark souls. Now I just hope they will fix the game for those who like it.
As someone new to the DD experience I enjoyed my time but the criticism are well deserved. How they haven’t added at least one different difficulty yet is beyond wild. Maybe they didn’t expect this level of success and find themselves very unprepared to do anything that’s not explicitly on their non existent road map? Who knows?
I felt this video, I played dd2 as well not as much as you I stopped right when I realized how small the spellist was and that rogue was sorta broken, also I add to my statement I'm a huge fan of overwatch and I still play started maybe 2nd year it was out and your video sort of describes my feelings pretty perfectly on how i feel about it rn and that games current state different genres but same feelings, hence why I still play it on occasion or with friends also my feelings on some other games in my life. (sidenote okami is a masterpiece and shiranui is my favorite sun mom)
Great review, heavily resonate with this. My homeboy introduced me to Dark Arisen and Dark Souls way back in the early 2010s and I played it all through Middle School and HS and eventually Uni, always played it in the mornings while eating a muffin and waiting for the school bus. The dreamlike quality of the game is a core memory for me. I got Dark Arisen on ps4 and Switch a couple years later and was so excited when DD2 was announced. I was over the moon when I got to spend hours making my Arisen in the Character Creator days before the game dropped. And I feel you, man. Played for about 50 hours before the grim realization set in that...this was it. A decade of dedication and patience for 50 hours of novelty and every hour afterward just repetition and increasing dissapointment. I came back recently because I WANTED to love this game. I wanted to find something I missed that would change my mind. Nope. Couldn’t convince myself to love the game, either. Holding out hope that we get an expansion equivalent to Dark Arisen that overhauls everything and breathes new life into the experience. I dunno man...but I feel you.
I have no problem with dragons dogma but when I finished the first game a couple of months ago, as soon as it was finished, I knew I never wanted to play it again.
I didn't expect this, and I'm here for it. Gave the game a solid two or three runs then stopped. Also if you haven't yet, see if you can get access to the Dragon's Dogma Online fan translation beta. The Rift channel should have info on it.
@@CerosTelevision I wanna play Online so bad. Also hoping they unveil a expansion for DD2 soon. This last update was pretty nice. As for your stats not continuing to go up, Itsuno's way of keeping the classes balanced without having to do the Min/maxing from DD1 to cap stats. It's a meh system
@@CerosTelevisionreplying again cause the longer I watch the video, the more I wanna have a conversation with you about Dragon's Dogma and other games lol. Also I think you forgot to mention that Itsuno didn't even make Dark Arisen. But I don't entirely blame him for ruining the game, I also blame Capcom cause you can tell most of their budget went to Monster Hunter Wilds. They basically made all the same choices they made when the first Dragon's Dogma came out, they screwed the development of both DD games.

I just had fun with it, I think it game me the feeling of exploration that Skyrim did for other people on release. I'm just baffled they decided to revamp stuff people LOVED in DD1 fpr the worse or not carry stuff over into DD2 at all.
Ddonline is what I’m playing now
There is more to come. DLC in the wings at some point.
I play dd2 still sometimes, I’ve modded mine so it’s somewhat closer to what the ideal dd2 would have been
I just don't understand how you played for so long after seeing what it was... I made it a few hours into a 2nd playthrough, and that was it. It was fun for about 2 weeks, then the disappointment set in.
I LOVE this game sadly
@@DooDoo-f4v dude.. I think you just had an existential crisis... Not sure you can blame it on a game.
@@DooDoo-f4v go pirate disco elysium, might freshen your palette a little bit. It is in a lot of ways more of a book than a video game, but it should take you less 20 hours to complete a run and it is the only time a video game has ever had good writing.
“Stand and deliver” *snaps fingers*
Lol yours and Super Rad's videos about DD2 are such great ways to describe how DD2 is. Such a great game on its own. I'm 130 hours in and I'm still consistently playing, but comparing to DD1, the sequel made such missteps that didn't exist in the first or even the same mistakes in some cases lmao. I'd get it if this was the first game in the series, but the sequel didn't learn from its mistakes. But I still fucking love DD2 lmao
Honestly the only thing I disagree with is the unmoored world
That was honestly my favorite part of the game with it being more difficult and with a main goal and time limit
But that’s just cause I play open world games in a way where I only do what i come across and don’t like going out of my way for things if I don’t find them naturally.
Was gonna say this before, but I felt it was better to wait
You're basically in an abusive relationship with Capcom.
17:00 ya i just realized that too😅
great job it does feel dd2 was not how i want it, what of the chimera its somthing wrong with it? i feel it one of these games done myth creatures right i do wish we had more enemy types it feels little in dd2
it did a great job :3 i'm a dragon's dogma series loveing and changed my life DDON in my mind its the best :3
DDON feels what dragon's dogma should be it has a better story. season 2 ending made me cry in tears, the enemies are great feel they can easily be in dd1 what of the chimeras? , the classes are better and great,
Indeed. I didn't even finish it. I just bored with it tbh.
Delightful video, I need to know how you got your subtitles to have wrong words in it. Not trying to be rude or nothing, just wanna know the process
It looks like the same or similar results you would expect from youtube's automatically-generated subtitles. Why he would hard code those into the video, without fixing the errors, is a very good question that I would also like to know the answer to
I think it’s funny

Dragon's Dogma 2 is proof that Itsuno cannot be trusted to direct an open world rpg 💀
@@frankdahtank354 true we need the mf who made dark arisen
@CerosTelevision funny enough they JUST added a Casual Mode 😔
Hopefully Goku can fix the game with the balls
I lament that we drove away infinitecringe in our division. 😔

NOT easy mode. Get facts straight
Good content
For as much fun as I had with DD2 it's the 5th ARPG in a row that basically testifies to how special Elden Ring was.
Amazing 👏 Craft 🫡
