The Ohms is yet another MASTERPIECE from Deftones. Heavy yet just beautiful. Soaring Chino vocals, crushing Steph Guitars and melody that is just a massive slice of beauty.
Chino's voice has the ability to make babies all by itself.
I love that there are people alive and walking around today because their parents got their bone on listening to Deftones.
this is a fun, safe song for them, im just excited to see that NINE STRING in the music video to hopefully bring the punch on the rest of the album

I agree. This could've been on Diamond Eyes or KNY aswell really, two of my favorite Deftones albums.
Really? This doesn’t sound like self titled at all to me. Self titled is one of my top 3 and has a more gritty sound in my opinion. I agree this is more SNW or a lost Gore track.

Tbh this has Around The Fur grooves to it.
It felt like a throw back to me. I pretty much love all of Deftones music and this song wasn't a huge let down, considering one of my other favorite musician's new solo stuff is just not enjoyable for me at all.
First we get Gojira, then we get Mastodon, and now Deftones. This is a great year for metal

Far as your analysis, it's basically what their writing style is famous for. Taking your expectations, and doing a hard left turn towards something else lmao
Their opening sets an interesting aggressive tone, then they slow down to an almost stoner/doom metal pace, with that classic rock riff, and throbbing bass line to match. Then close out the song with polyrhythms, then the finale of the opening riff 🤣 it's maniacally catchy
This song hits a lot better on the 3rd or 4th listen tbh
I listen and love even the heaviest of bangers but Deftones will remain in my top 5 favorite bands forever.
Also, I think Nik said it perfectly. Their music is haunting.
It’s hard not to like a Deftones song when Chino sings.. All of Chino work is badass.. I truly like him on Brief Exchange
That song is honestly bomb
Its a hard song to enjoy because you expect so much of it but get something that is not quite what you expect. But if you let it in you will love it. For me its just one of those groovy deftones songs that i enjoy to just listen and just vibe with it. Its a great song.
This is the album closer so thats why theres none of the harsh vocals or super heavy riffing from Steph, with that in mind this sounds like a great closer

Also, Chino pretty much fucked up his voice in terms of screaming, thats why he uses them less and less every album
KuroiNamida How’d you know that? He could also just be older and tired of screaming. He had it as far back as Diamond Eyes, which was 10 years ago and I keep forgetting that and that’s been _a while._
@@astraldirectrix read it here and there, also listen to the screams on gore they sound muffled and all compared to older albums. They're aroun since the late 80s and i dont think young Chino cared about Screaming Techniques. Doing it wrong for years can really strain the voice, just look at Matt Heafy from Trivium or Matt from BFMV, both were screaming with the wrong or no technique to a point were they risked losing their voice

I loved this song the first time I listened to it. One of my favorite elements of the song is a subtle vocal fry in the beginning that fades out into the song only to reappear at the end. It’s best noted thru headphones
something I find interesting is that this is the last song on the album according to the tracklist, odd choice to have an album closer as a single but hey, I can't wait to hear the rest.

I just realized what it was about this song for me - it sounded more like one of Chino’s side projects like Palms. Interesting direction but I was kinda hoping they’d dig deeper into the Gore/Diamond Eyes feel where the songs sound open but heavy.
Although a new song, it sounds somewhat nostalgic no? I've been often thinking, what is it in terms of music and instruments alone that makes some songs sound like that, e.g. mgmt
It's actually certain chord progressions. Music is made up of musical phrases. Humans over the years have attributed certain emotions to certain chords. That's why music theory is important in music. It allows you to basically piece together music through emotion. Something alot of bands are missing nowadays.

Yeah seems probable. I feel he led most of the previous album and the other musicians were not happy about the album. But Seems Chino was very sure about all and they didn't like but decided to go for it since they gotta work. This time seems that Chino made a agreement with the band and the rest will be leading this time. That's why it seems so different from the previous one and the rest published before

Iv been a loyal deftones fan since '97 two wifes later and my share of dissapointment and some of yours but through it all chino and co have been there...no concert tickets or albums can ever express my gratitude....truly

I agree with this review. I still love this song, because well it’s the Deftones! It’s just that the guitar riff is just so simple and normal sounding for a Deftones song. I never understood why Steph needed so many strings, when he is not a technical player. I’m still looking forward to the album.
