  • We start off in Juneau, Alaska, where we pick up Jim’s brother, Ron, and his grandson, Mason, who come and join us for two weeks from Mississippi. From Juneau we cruise to Taku Harbor, where we explore for a couple of days before cruising on to Endicott Arm and the Dawes Glacier.

This is our trawler cruising life story.
We were two "middle aged" :) working corporate types who had succeeded in pursuing the American Dream. We had the house, the boat, the cars, the toys, and worked a lot of hours and endured a lot of stress to pay for it all. Retirement was appealing. Retirement cruising on a trawler, was even more appealing.
We decided to make a big change and minimize our footprint. We sold everything, and having loved boating for many years, bought and moved aboard our 54', go anywhere in the world, ocean going power boat. That was in 2014 and we have never looked back.
Now in our late 50's we are free of work and we are living aboard and cruising our trawler full time. We have recently added two new crew members, feline brothers, Blake and Barkley. Yes, we have two brave (sorta) boat cats, on board!
Join us and our crew, on our adventures as we explore new places, discover more about our trawler and what makes her work, and learn more about ourselves in our young retirement years.
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to ask in the RUclips comments or email us at CruisingSeaVenture@Gmail.com.
    Thanks for watching,
    Jim, Rosy, Blake and Barkley

      David,
Yes they do. I have always like the Fleming 55 as well. It was fun to get to meet and chat with Tony for awhile on the dock. He was in his custom Fleming named "Venture". He was very gracious and was very complimentary of Sea Venture and the long range Cheoy Lee's, which was nice. He had a professional captain, crew and film maker with him as well.
      Thanks for watching and commenting,

Found you on you tube a couple days ago and love watching your adventures, thank you! I have a new-to-me 2000 Bayliner 4788 and although not a trawler, I love it. I'm the the Sacramento Delta area and have 1000 miles of inland water to explore this year and might get brave enough (and smart enough) to venture out into the deep blue next year. Thank you so much for all of video blog, it is comforting to see you do it right. Love the refit, wow!

      Paula,
We are glad you are enjoying the videos. True, there are lots of sailors with RUclips channels drinking themselves around the world. That's not us - sometimes I think we are a bit boring - we just aren't into lots of boating drama. We have intentionally tried to keep the camera pointed out so you can see what we are seeing.
Again, thanks for watching and commenting.

I found your utube channel a couple weeks ago and have watched every ep you published so far. I watched ep 40 but can’t find ep 41, have you posted it yet?
We lived aboard our Albin 40 for 16 years and cruised the east coast and the Bahamas extensably. I love the information you include but as a long term cruiser who anchored most of the time would love a “tech” section on your anchor gear. Also info on your anchorage area such as depth of water, rode deployed, etc., etc. Your anchorages are so different than ours this info would be interesting to us “shallow “ water cruisers.
Thanks for your videos and I am very much looking forward to your trip south this summer. FYI, I have you on AIS so will keep up with you as you travel the world.

    • @CruisingSeaVenture
      @CruisingSeaVenture  5 лет назад +1

      Rob,
Thanks for watching and commenting. We had a great holiday and hope you did as well.
      Regarding the snow . . . . .
Sea Venture did great - she stayed warm and dry.
Rosy and I were not here - thus the delay in getting this latest video out. We went to check out one of Sea Ventures destinations that will be coming up - La Paz, Mexico. So while it was freezing cold and snowing at the boat, we were lounging in La Paz for a month. It was great. 75 and sunny every day. We definitely enjoyed La Paz and the time we got to tour in the Sea of Cortez. Now we are back in Everett with a final list of boat projects to complete before we leave Everett for good.
      Thanks,
      Jim and Rosy

You know, There is some interest in where Jim and Rosy are , Could be the initial excitement of boat life has worn off a bit, (Jim said they have been boating for many years)..
They may have settled into a different level of reality. The level of excitement shown can’t last long. I’m just grateful they took the time and effort to share their lives for a while. I know their videos uplifted me and others. Maybe we will get lucky and hear from them again.

Sept 1, 2019 Don't know what has happened but Sea Venture is still in it's slip at the Port of Everett. It went out for an afternoon a couple of weeks ago and returned. Hasn't moved since. That I have seen. I will be going to Everett soon and will try to get out to their slip. POE locks their gates so may not make it.

Is that a FLIR camera on the front of your pilothouse? If so, how do you like it?

    • @CruisingSeaVenture
      @CruisingSeaVenture  5 лет назад +1

Yes, that is a FLIR camera mounted above the pilothouse.
The camera is great, under specific conditions. We got the camera because we do some cruising in the dark in the Pacific Northwest and their are a lot of logs in the water that are best to avoid. It detects a very minor difference in temperature, and anything floating in the water is a different temperature then the water.
But, having said that - there are times it does not work. They are:
      1) When it's raining. The rain washes out any temperature differences and all you get is a white screen.
      2) The same can be said for fog - it makes what the camera sees all the same temperature.
      3) In rough seas. White caps are a different temperature, so they show up. As a result, there are so many targets when it's rough you can't tell the difference between white caps and logs
      4) Also when it''s rough, the pitching of the boat results in too much movement and the camera has a hard time focusing.
But still, when its not too rough and not raining, you see everything.
If you want to see what the view looks like in the pitch black, it's in one of the videos. Episode 11, Haidi Gwaii to Port Hardy in 52 hours, at about the 5 to 6 minute mark you can see what we see in the dark.
Again, thanks for watching and commenting,
      Jim

      Hi Terry,
Thanks for watching. Sea Venture is a Cheoy Lee Long Range Trawler, 54' length overall. You might enjoy watching the boat tour video (Episode 38), engine room tour video (Episode 25), and the fuel management video. (Episode 20) They all go over more technical details of Sea Venture.
