This is a great help for me. I just got my first Lee mold the other day.

Excellent information. I clean a new mold with acetone and a tooth brush. Lubricate with Bull Plate, but that oil will do the same job.
    Thanks

Hey Duece great video but you left out one really important thing. First thing you should do is clean the mold when you buy it. There is usually some oil remnants from the mold making process. I use naphtha to do mine.

Yep. It's been so long since I've actually broken in a new mold I totally forgot about that step.

Hey, How often would you resmoke a bullet mold?

I've never kept track but it's time to resmoke when you start having to tap the hinge bolt on the handles to get the bullets to drop on a regular basis.

What mold do you use for your sub 300 AAC and what do you resize to after you powder coat? I could have sworn ive seen your video on it I just cant find it now. ha

The link below is the mold I use and it's purpose made for 300 blackout subs. I've not put up a video on resizing and powder coating yet. I rarely have the need to resize the Lee tumble lubed bullets but if I were to resize I'd take it down to .309. You will need a flaring die if you don't already have one for the powder coated bullets which is also listed along with the mold. Link: amzn.to/2lfkqsq

That spray on stuff works OK but will build up an mess up the clearances of the mold blocks. It is murder to remove and acetone will barely cut it. After messing up a good lee mold I went to smoke. Much better amd easy to do.

Hi, duece what is the bullet weiold??ght on your 300 blackout mold? great video btw!

That mold is the TL309-230-5R so it's designed to drop at 230 grains. Using wheel weight lead it drops right at 230 give or take a grain.

Are cast iron molds the same way? Thanks

The clean and prep is the same. If you plan on storing them in a humid garage or in my case an underground bunker you'll want to coat them with a little oil for storage and clean/prep them again before the next use. This will keep any rust issues at bay.

What about the Eras gone molds?

Same process. From the looks of their molds Lee makes them probably as part of their custom order option.

I have dozens of Lee Molds--never had to smoke any of them.. I am not sure why others even do this.

I find that it speeds up the break-in period so I can cast super fast more quickly.

It understanding because I have tried a few burning methods and it’s definitely not burning black how you and others have it. Something is not right.
