==FABIAN ABOUT THE SONG:
This song was inspired by a chance meeting: at a public event, I happened upon German astronaut/kosmonaut Alexander Gerst, just having returned from space, surrounded by a crowd. Though I did not recognize him, I was deeply impressed by this tall man's calm charisma compared to all the fuss around him. To me, he somehow seemed to float beyond everyday's worries.
When I read some hours later that this man had just come "home" from his mission on the International Space Station, I had the idea for this song. Also around that time, the conflict in eastern Ukraine evolved, so I decided to write the lyrics in Russian, since people speaking that same language (Russian being commen there as opposed to Ukrainian in the western part of the country) were killing each other to move some border some kilometers more to the west or the east. Some (Russian) friends helped me with the grammar and now it should be at least understandable, though there might be some spelling mistakes. To stress that nationalism and a view from space does not fit together for any nation, we created the little radio play in English - and please note this was written and recorded two years before Trump was elected... we had no clue about him in those days...
We tried to mix the 70ties space mood with some Ska elements, a rather uncommon mixture that took us quite long to create the right organ and synth sounds. Keymon's Moog solo became a core element of the song, which everyone in the band can even sing along to. In the last chorus you might hear some Balalaika-style guitars, however we didn't want the song to become too folkloristic, as the topic is exactly the opposite: There is just one world from space.
The song became our title track for "Astronaut Kosmonaut" and the whole album idea was built around the song - not a classical Ska or Ska Punk artwork, but close to the message we always want to transport with our music: "No matter what language, what culture, what background or what kind of person you are - we a have a lot in common, so let's just have a great evening together!"

RELATIV RAPID is a ska/rock-band from southern Germany (est. 2013). The 6 to 8 guys mix all type of styles from all over the world into their offbeat music and sing in about seven languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Arabian, Bavarian).
