They must have had quite an interesting time at the nearby locks, getting all the backed up traffic through!

That's a lot of very happy bottom scraper operators.

Very quick to re-opening. The Suez had to wait for Dutch teams to arrive; you did not have to wait for Egyptian teams!

Too bad Ever Plenty owner on on the hook for nearly a billion dollars in blocking that canal. Most expensive traffic jam in history

They did move fast to get it open again. A lot of shipping delayed.

Very impressive. Thanks. I wonder how long you will have to wait for a decision about the future of the bridge.

It was good you also have footage of the bridge working before the incident. Has the cause been arrived at yet, have the crew and barge been locked up until a decision is met.

Good question, the crew didn't see the bridge, it was their first time in Groningen...

@@ShipSpottingNederland I sailed the canals for three summers and kept my boat in winter storage at Yerseke. I had a book of charts for the whole of the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Showing the canals, locks, bridges marinas etc. with times of opening of the rail bridges, cost of moorings, telephone numbers everything a pleasure sailer needed and this was a commercial barge.???

Leuk vanuit Curaçao nog eens te zien. Hier heb ik vroeger veel gespeeld tussen scheepswerf Kerstholt en de Korrewegbrug. Was dat niet het land van boer Kamps?

Why do many barges have cars on-board ? Thanks

    • @ShipSpottingNederland

Chris Paige some of them also have a house somewhere. Its indeed shopping etc but they lay the boat down friday and go home and return sonday or monday.

Most of these people live continioisly on the barges. So the take ther cars whit them! In the other cases its easier for the crew to take the cars whit them, becouse they never know where the lay there barge up for the weekend.

On some barges the whole family live aboard and on regular routes the children attend schools, so the cars is lifted of and mum takes the kids to school, run errands and meets up with the barge further along the route. You will also see netted in play areas for small children, so they can get some fresh air.
