In some ways, this actually sounds better than the final version. You can tell it was recorded in the 70s with their sound then. Mick's vocals sound awesome.
1st started as a throwaway reggae ditty by Jagger . ( can be found on YT ) Then they turned it into this for Tattoo You ''81 at some point ! I think this is the best version I ever heard ! Sounds just a little bit faster than the released one, though I might be imagining that ! Dirty funky rock like only the Stones can do !!!
Feeling this could have worked in 77/78 too. Not sure why they shelved it. Did read that the earliest version of ‘Start Me Up’had a reggae rhythm but this version is not reggae
This doesn't sound like the 77/78 demos. This sounds like a 81 early take. The song is complete, but without the adds and fills. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@@TommyMacLuckie The cowbells and the handclaps were added for the final take which made the cut for the Tattoo You album (recorded between Apr-Jun 1981).

It totally rocks.
I agree its a looser and a bit faster. Love it. its better tan the final version.
SOUNDS GRUNGY................. AWESOME
cool
cool version. a shame it wasnt released on some girls.it would have made that album even more classic
Some Girls is great, probably would’ve made it one of the greatest albums ever

They didn't do any takes in 81, maybe an overdub here and there, but no takes for tattoo you.
It's from the 1977 Some Girls sessions, it's not a demo. This is the Tattoo You version before it was finished.

@@JHollowayNetwork those are overdubs. No new recordings ie bottoms with the band were done after the EMOTIONAL RESCUE sessions.
I Think that I heard "Start it up", only me?
I always thought this was a seventies song.
make a dead man come
It's missing the bass
It's there.
No lead guitar at all. Pretty boring

who needs lead when you got two best weavers in the world...?

this is the demo promotion version before the 1981 version.
