Zhu Bajie admired the Taiyin Star Lord (not Chang'e), but on his journey, he encountered a handmaiden who turned out to be Chang'e (Chang'e is a title; all handmaidens of the Taiyin Star Lord are called Chang'e). The Jade Emperor was secretly meeting with the Taiyin Star Lord when Tian Peng (Bajie) accidentally saw them. As a result, he was banished to the mortal realm. This Chang'e, unable to forget Tian Peng, also descended to the mortal world and became a spider demon.
When the banished Bajie saw Gao Cuilan at Gao Village, he mistook her for Chang'e and pursued her. However, Gao Cuilan was terrified when she saw Bajie's true form. As Bajie continued westward, he reached the Pansi Cave, where the reincarnated Purple Spider immediately recognized the pig-headed figure she had longed for. How could the small Pansi Cave stand against the Heavenly Court? Bajie didn’t have the skills of his elder brother, nor the power of the Bull Demon King.
If he doesn't look back, he can't love her; if he does, it will bring her harm. So Bajie chose not to acknowledge her-he couldn’t. Bajie was determined to help the destined one, and even if he failed, the only price would be his own life. He would no longer drag his loved ones into it. The best love he could give her was to let go.

Edit: how to check this. Open up the video in two separate windows, then starting from the fully transformed spider lady image, use the "" keys to move through the video one frame at a time in each window. Zhubajie's sequence has one extra scene at the end (where he cries as a human).
I also interpreted it as them being able to see each other clearly in spite of everything they’ve been through. Bajie remembers who she was, and sees who she becomes. While Spider sees who he is, and accepts him as if he never changed at all.

The story here is that Pigsy (aka Tianpeng in heaven) admired Taiyin Xingjun (not Chang'e), and the maid he met on the road was Chang'e (Chang'e is an official title, and all the maids of Taiyin Xingjun are called Chang'e). Pigsy caught the Jade Emperor and Taiyin Xingjun having a secret affair and got demoted to the mortal world. To whom are confused by the chapter 4 ending, here is explanation:
Pigsy (Bajie), in his pursuit of Moon Goddess, accidentally bumped into Zi'er (the elder spider lady). Zi'er fell deeply in love with Pigsy at first sight. Later, Pigsy was banished to the mortal realm after exposing the illicit affair between Moon Goddess and the Jade Emperor. Zi'er willingly gave up her immortality to follow Pigsy. Through nine reincarnations, Pigsy wandered, and Zi'er waited. Pigsy transformed from a demon to a Buddha, while Zi’er descended from a deity to a demon. Their destinies, once intertwined, drifted further apart. After completing the fifth chapter, we discover that Pigsy didn't deny their past but feared acknowledging it. Due to the Heavenly Court's persecution, Pigsy worried that being with him would endanger Zi'er, so he resolutely chose to embark on the Journey to the West.
Pigsy, mistakenly reincarnated as a pig, frightened another young lady at the beginning of the story. Yet, despite his pig-like appearance, Zi'er instantly recognized Pigsy's original handsome features in the hot spring. As their hands clasped, Pigsy's initial reaction was self-loathing. He transformed back into a pig, saying, "I'm no longer the mighty Marshal of the Heavenly River; I'm just a lowly pig demon." Zi'er, upon hearing this, instantly transformed into a spider, saying, "I don't care! I'm no longer a graceful celestial maiden, but just an ugly spider." True love is accepting the other unconditionally, even at their most destitute. After confessing their deepest insecurities, they embraced each other without hesitation. In the final lines of the song, the man sings, "I hope you won't look back" (hoping she hadn't fallen for him initially and could remain a happy celestial maiden), while the woman sings, "Please do look back" (no matter what, I will wait for you).
To my knowledge, that is not jade emperor, he look way to young in this animation, he is an older dude who always dress in an emperor dress plus he already got a wife named wang mu niang niang, if she found out he's having affair like this, she will rip his head off but then again, this is a made up story for the game and should not compared to the original JTTW. Jade emperor also have 7 daughters (七仙女) and sons.
I watched the show when I was kid and if I remember correctly, the heaven curse him to never find a lover. Once they both fall in love, they both die. He challenged the curse and got killed then reincarnated multiple times. So maybe in this life he left her so he could protect both of them.

yea, i remember that. i believe in both the 1986 and 1996 tv show, they used the story line of zhu bajie being banished to the mortal realm for falling in love with chang'e and cursed to endure thousands of reincarnations where love ultimately kills him. in one tribulation, he accidentally slips and reincarnates in a pig den, becoming a pig and later given sentience by quanyin. he later cultivated to a pig demon while he waited for the fateful one to begin his journey to the west.
in this story, it seems that he chanced upon the jade emperor cheating on his empress by secretly meeting with his "mistress", the moon goddess and banished zhu bajie to the mortal realm to keep his mouth shut about the infidelity. chang'e fell in love with him and left for the mortal realm to be with him yet she reincarnated as a spider and he ended up as a pig demon. zhu bajie can only protect her and his children by feigning ignorance of their relationship and provokes them to hide any real connection. it seems he fears the celestial court a lot since his senior brother, sun wukong, the ox king, and several other earthly demon kings were either killed or left in shambles after the seige against the court.
nothing good will come with their reunion, so i guess it is his way of protecting them.

When i was a child, saw the JTTW 1986 film i always laughed at Baije, made joke about his simping, coward, every time his master was caught, he immediately want to disban the team and cancel the journey 😂. Now i'm an adult, play the game, watch the animation, hear the music, i realize that at that time i was just a dumb kid 😢
He was pretty dumb in the show though. He was even worse in the original novel, kept trying to white ant sun wukong and even got him kicked from the party. He was pretty much an agent of the Taoist faction sent to sabotage the journey to the west, which is why he ended up as a Taoist diety, rather than any kind of Buddha.
His character is very different and much more likeable in the game. He's never this brave, self sacrificial or smart in the original show or novel.

Yep, Bajie is not big or fat like most iteration in this game, his punishment in OG novel was the result of his lust(in TVB version, he literally trying to separate Chang'e and her lover, by using Yuelao red rope, only the couple banish to the same place)

Ending animation context as far as I know/understand:
Bajie was a Marshal in heaven, fell in love with a woman (first seen in the ending animation) and he found out that that woman is having an affair with Jade Emperor (the dude with silver hair) and thus Jade Emperor banished Bajie to Earth and cursed him into a ugly bastard pig demon to keep his mouth shut about he affair.
Another woman fell in love with Bajie and followed him to Earth and become a Spider demon, met him, and had a relationship with him for a while.
Fast forward, into the Journey to The West arc, Wukong and the gang (Bajie was one of his party members) was ordered to kill 7 Spider sisters to continue their journey, one of the 7 Spider sisters is the woman that fell in love with Bajie (Violet Spider/old Spider in the game).
Bajie, spared the Violet Spider because they still loved each other. The Violet Spider then ate the corpses of her other 6 sisters in order to survive and secure her hatchlings (the young ladies in the game).
Violet Spider and Bajie continue their relationship in secret, thus born the youngest daughtee of the Violet Spider (the lil sister spider in the game), but then Bajie cut ties left the spider family and pretend to not know them all in order to keep them save from Heaven's suspicion.
