  • Half the video is filmed at normal speed, the other half shows some clips speeded up 5 times.
Quite interesting to see how the sandpaper removes material and reveals the final handle shape

I have to say that for the quantity of work that goes into a jacklore...the finished cost is very very cheap considering the man hours gone in. Other very well known makers charge almost double.
Best knives on the market IMHO.
All made in a shed too 😉

I can remember you saying that you got into knife making as you wanted a Ray Mears knife. Yours have surpassed them! What true works of art from a master cutler Sandy.

I have to say I completely agree, for the sheer brilliant craftsmanship, and hours and hours put into each one of these masterpieces, Sandy is selling himself short, they should cost more. If I was ever lucky enough to get the opportunity to purchase one I would be paying more whether he was asking for it or not.

Despite having watched each and every stage of the various processes many times Sandy, I am still amazed at how you manage to create such perfect knives and one of the elements of that is your ability to create handles with such perfect symmetry and with such apparent ease, particularly when you are pretty much just eyeballing. Do you ever mess up a handle? Wonderful stuff.

It's true. People do not understand what it takes to make a custom handmade knife. Factory knives are just that. Factory knives. Not much character, not always pretty. The next time someone complains about the cost of one of my knives I'll show them this video. As always Sandy, beautiful work.

    This is therapy.
I made a handle for a blade made by Chris Matthews. I now realise how much equipment I should have had. Three months it took me, using a small carving knife, round file and emery paper. Doesn't look anywhere near as beautiful as yours.

I live in a flat and so I can't use power tools, I buy in ready made blades, fit my own handles, and do all my handle shaping with hand tools
I use hand stitched rasps, such as those sold by www.workshopheaven.co.uk They are expensive but as I haven't spent money on a belt sander etc, I don't mind paying for good hand tools.
Also useful, but cheaper, is a shoemakers rasp from Machine Mart

If you ever have a spare one for sale I'm just down the road in gods country. I have saved up for a woodlore but I would rather wait for one of your unique beauties. My SFK 10 has plenty of life left so no dramas. Just stay a happy knife maker and leave the rest to fate.🤙

An absolutely astonishing upload which really does show off Sandy’s skills and the very long processes of arriving at the finished product. Now to the nitty gritty, would I want another knife made by someone else ? Absolutely not ! A jacklore is not just for Christmas it’s for life. The best of the very best IMO. Really makes me sad when you see them up for sale on the Facebook page two weeks after the guy has just got it. Remember this is a huge part of Sandy’s life gone into making just one knife which is why any jacklore I own will stay with me to the day I die and is absolutely stunning and so very special to me. ♥️😊

This is why I’m so grateful for owning one of your knives. The effort you put into every stage is admirable. The knife is a pleasure to use and the quality is apparent. When I use the knife out in the woods sometimes one of your videos comes to mind and I just have to stop and appreciate the knife for a moment. I know a lot of your knives never get used by their owners. I can’t help but feel that some of your efforts go to waste when the knife is just sitting idle in a drawer. The comfort of the handle, the superb edge geometry and dialed in heat treat needs to be experienced in use to be fully appreciated. That is of course just the opinion of some random dude on RUclips 😝 Anyways, needed to get that rant out 😁 Excellent work 👏👏👏

One year later... I've made lots of knives, and they just keep getting better and better, partly from watching your videos Sandy. The only magic to this is time, it takes lots of time to make a hand crafted knife. Each blade is a journey, ending with the most perfect knife I can make.
