    In a recent video, I compared this 6,000€+ guitar with the other 500€ one, and got a lot of mixed comments mentioning that the cheaper one sounded better. I felt bad for the Conde..
    So let's make another one! This time comparing and demonstrating the difference in playing PICADOS on an Expensive guitar vs a cheaper one. Hopefully the difference can be more clear here. Can you hear it?
    The cheaper guitar gave me a hard time to record with due to its smaller measurements in general.
    I also have to clarify, to make the test more fair both guitars have the same action, around 2.5mm on the 12th fret.
    What do you think of the result? Does this video finally justify the extra 5,500€? Or should I make yet another one? What would you like me to do?
    Played on a:
    CONDE HERMANOS 2000 (Blanca) - Expensive Guitar
    JOSE LUIS POSTIGO 2016 (Blanca) - Cheaper Guitar

    As I would expect, in a talented hand both sound very good, higher priced a tiny bit better, a 500€ guitar I would expect to have very good qualities, if you compare the 500€ with a 100€ to 200€ one there will be a noticeable drop off in sound quality and those would not be in the same world as the high priced one. Excellent demo, thank you very much 👏👌✌️

Playing a guitar and just listening to it are two different experiences, it’s not just sound it’s how it makes you feel and play. By the way, I congratulate you for your exceptional playing!

    This reminds me of something from my past. Many years ago I had a privilege to spend some time with Paco de Lucia, and once, when we were sitting backstage, after one of his concerts, a guy came inside to show him a couple of guitars built by a local luthier. They were pretty cheap, but when Paco started playing on them they sounded like million dollars guitars.

    When I first got my Hermanos Conde my reaction after tuning it was "ooooohh.. so this is what a flamenco guitar should sound like..". Previously I had an Alhambra Negra, fine guitar for a 20 year old but there's no comparison really.
    But the most important difference (in my opinion) was by far how easy it is to play on a very good guitar compared to cheaper stuff.

    Great as always. Anything you do with the guitar is a great lesson for me.
    About the vid, some people don't realize that we don't have to think: "the expensive guitar doesn't sound 11 times better than the cheap one". Definitely the Hnos Conde sound a lot of better, and it cost so much because of the time, materials and experience needed to build it. It doesn't have to be proportional to how many times it sound better that the other. One is made by hand and the other one by machine.

      Saying this as a fan of blancas, they are worse in terms of overall tonal quality, more unbalanced trebles/basses (trebles are way overpronounced), the basses die very quickly (strings lose their new sound within a few days if you're unlucky/playing a lot), etc.
      But there's still a certain character I like about blancas, even cheap ones. Doing rasgueos with new strings on a blanca feels unreal.

    • @themysteryofmusic
      @themysteryofmusic 2 года назад

      Also the fact that a lot of the classic flamenco repertoire has been recorded on blancas, brings back a certain sound, even if it's worse. Doesn't mean you should love blancas, nor is it right not to admit the evenness and balance of the negra. Just that you might get closer to a f.e. early Paco (60's) sound if you play on a good blanca. Personally I love that sound, but for modern stuff it's negras all the way

    Hola Luciano, the expensive guitar sounds obviously much better, but in my opinion the most important fact is the better playing confort of the Conde. I agree with you according to my own experience as I possess 2 Flamenco guitars, a cheap one Mundo Flamenco 3F (2013) corresponding to the Cordoba F7 made in China and an expensive one i.e. a handcrafted Soleá Especial 2020 Francisco Bros. made in Spain. My expensive guitar is much easier to play although the string action is roughly the same and its sound is really cristal clear whereas the sound of the cheaper guitar is unbalanced, the trebles are always sounding flat. Night and day difference in sound, honest did not expect it to be so huge, but it still sounds like you get the sufficient "snappiness" from the cheap one which is more than fine for practice, the sound just comes out a little muted.

    I just think it this way. If you spend 3-4 hours a day playing everyday, the expensive guitar will give you much enjoyment for evry note you play. You get more motivated, you appreciate the clarity of evry note. If you are serious about playing guitar after 20 years you would have been playing a guitar that lets you express the maximum a guitar can give you. 20 yearsX 365 days X 4 hours. Whatever the guitar costs it is worth for me. Imagine you buy a good guitar today for 5000 euros. In 20 years you would probably could sell it for at least 4000 euros. For 1000 euros you have been playing the best possible guitar 20 years.

    Both have good attack, the expensive one sounds more open, quicker, more esplosive, especially in the trebles and overall it has a deeper quality; the cheaper one is somewhat cloqued, especially in the mids and the high notes sound tonally flat and don't have a lot of color in close reach. It's quite a good flamenco guitar tho and would be a good, maybe even better choice in some situations.

    I think your playing Luciano as always is impeccable and simply a joy to listen to with whichever guitar. However I have to say and it’s only my personal opinion, I have always considered Conde’s sound to be very dry, staccato with little depth. Great for picados I guess, bright and clear and of course I know Paco was famous for playing Condes. I mean who could argue with him, the king but in this comparison I still prefer the fuller sound of the cheaper guitar. Thank you for your videos though, they’re an education as well as pure flamenco pleasure! Maybe the reason for my comment is just to have the pleasure of listening to you do another comparison video. Best wishes. Paul

    • @LucianoGhosn
      @LucianoGhosn  2 года назад

      Thank you Paul! I do love the dryness of the Conde’s in general. But finding a decent one can be very hard especially these days.. The cheaper one is constructed more in the form of a Reyes (from what I’ve heard), so the result is very different.
      I’ll be sure to consider making more of these if you guys are enjoying them!
      Cheers

      @@LucianoGhosn thanks Luciano for your reply. That’s very interesting as I do love the sound of Reyes guitars not least due to the genius of Vincento bringing them firmly into the lime light. Maybe that’s why I orientated more towards the cheaper of the two. Your videos are always so well received and any you have done or decide to do will be very much appreciated. 👍

    My guitar is cheap and it sounds pretty much just like your cheao one although my strings aren't evenly placed so it makes it a bit difficult to play.
    I've got a question regarding technical exercises. I do all of my exercises with a sponge in the strings. Do you think that's bad and what would you recommend?

    • @LucianoGhosn
      @LucianoGhosn  2 года назад

      I love the sponge.. Haha
      I practice with it all the time. It might however trick you as it covers the sound of the mistakes a lot, so not recommended for beginners in general but once you have your technique settled, it should be fine.
