      Thanks, it's fairly slow going at the moment with other commitments and the weather, but I've done a fair bit behind the scenes and a bit more I did record

    The thing to remember with these Sheerlines is that all they are, are trucks with posh bodywork and if you happy to work on buses and trucks then you should have no problem with this. as for parts, try to think laterally and if you need things like bearings or seals, search online using the part numbers. Things like brake linings or clutch plates are always repairable or able to be relined (have you seen Car SOS?!). These sorts of projects are what superglue was made for!!!

      You're quite right, it really is a truck with posh, if rusty, bodywork.
      There's only a couple of seals I've yet to get, and bearings should be easy once I have the numbers.
      However, the interior is far beyond my skill set, so I'm not even going to try, same with the wood bits, but the rest should be OK. As has been the recurring theme in the last year, it's lack of time that's the biggest issue at the moment, but I'm hoping to get some more hours in directly.
      Brake linings isn't an issue, and I have 2 new clutch friction plates on stock. So that's fine.

      Indeed, better still, it was just down the road!
      I'll have another go at it on the week. When hopefully it'll be a bit cooler!

    Awesome, I'm looking forward to more! It's 38 degrees C outside my house right now, so I do understand how you feel about the heat. FWIW the audio level seems very low from your new mic, but that may just be me. Love the videos!!

      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад

      38? Blimey, is self combust in that!
      Yeah, the mic isn't really working out, for reasons I know not it was only working on the left channel, I'm probably doing something wrong, might just go back to using the phone mic.
      I don't really get on with technology!

    That Sheerline front and backend were definitely worthwhile even if you only got the gearset and diff out of them (i'd be inclined to keep the engine, gearbox casing and axle casing as well for the just in case of a major blow up at least you'd have something to work with), you mentioned in the previous video that the back axle was a salisbury axle and very low geared, I was thinking of what vehicles had salisbury axles and didn't some Landrovers, Rang rovers and Transits have them axles as a optional extra and although the axle assembly looked different the actual diff casing and the gears are the same (with different ratios) with just different axle tubes and hub ends for their particular application.

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад +1

      Absolutely, it was a great buy!
      If I had infinite space I would keep it all, but space is limited, largely because I keep old junk!
      That's interesting, thanks. Hadn't actually given any thought to the axle being used in other vehicles, but I'll certainly look into it, if I can find a taller geared diff that will bolt straight in I'd definitely get one, the engine is so torquey it could easily cope with higher gearing, and make it a more relaxed cruiser.
      I'm certainly going to strip the engine and see just how bad it is, but given it was full to the rockers with water I suspect it's mostly scrap but I'll find out this week if I get chance

      @@adventuresinrust1644 another thing i was curious about, is the engine the same as the other Austin/BMC 6's , so could it have the twin or triple carb SU setups used on these engines?

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад

      @stevehill4615 yes, it's the same engine. A triple su setup from the A135 will bolt directly to it.
      It's something I'm considering doing, although the engine in my ambulance (pretty much the exact same engine) runs quite happily on a single 1 1/2" su with a no. 5 needle. So I might just do that.
      Not sure yet

    Back in the '80s I used to Banger Race and you would see those on the track, have you contacted any Banger Racing clubs for parts ??

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад

      I do know a few banger racers, who have said they'll ask around, but I've not seen a sheerline go round the track for a very very long time, so I'd guess any bits there were have long gone

    That’s a grand engine

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад +1

      It's a very rusty engine, but in general I'm a massive fan of these motors, thirsty, but pretty much indestructible and very smooth.

      @@adventuresinrust1644 I bet the crank and rods are ok with a bit of oil and diesel she might free up , good that you got that diff off the other sheerline very useful

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад

      It's been full of water for decades, so I suspect the crank is toast, but I'll find out in due course

    I thought that this was going to be a "will it run video"... seriously, Jennings Motor Sports in USA has got completely seized & rusted up engines - look worse than yours and contrary to all expectations, he got them running!!!
    A brilliant purchase, once it is gone, it is gone, even if you don't need the parts, you can sell them on to others, if you need to get the clutch reconditioned on an exchange basis, you have the trade-in, all good stuff, shame you had to waste the rear brake drum, hopefully, the others can be saved.
    Good luck!

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад

      I'll pull the motor apart, but given how many years it's been outside and filled with water I don't hold out much hope..
      It was a shame about the drum, but l shall try very hard to extract the the other 3 without destroying them.
      Any parts I don't need will be offered for free, it's paid for itself already in my view

    It'd be virtually impossible to find another gear set like that. If you did, it'd probably cost a small fortune. Any clue why it was taken off the road all those years ago?

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  4 месяца назад

      Quite so, it's a remarkable find. I'm sure there's some brand new parts hiding somewhere, but I'm fairly sure this must be the lowest mileage used sheerline parts in the world.
      Best I know the car was written off very early on in its life, the chassis was purchased from a scrap yard for spare parts by a guy that had a sheerline. I'm guessing his car never went wrong because he never used them.
