Great piece of gear. I agree, the ability to place a captured Pedal in front of a captured Amp is an important functionality that should be added to ToneX. I'm guessing that IK Multimedia will add that feature soon. I think it was important for them to get ToneX into the market, and they can go ahead and roll out improvements after getting some feedback from users.

There's a dude who did a video demonstrating 12 diff 5150 amp sims and the tse seemed to be the most realistic. The 2nd place was the vtar amps model and I tried it in person and it's quite good but it's a standalone vst so TSE beats it because it has a tubescreamer, noise gate, tuner, post EQ, cab sim and the worlds best IR's for metal/chugs all built in. And it's super low CPU/latency response. Still the king

Not gonna lie, I've been honestly eyeing IK's $450 AXE I/O interface/software bundle ($2,000 value!) for a few weeks now.
My hang up with digital amps has always been in regards to using my pre-existing analog "front of amp" pedals i.e.
Wha, Boost, OD, Distortion, and Fuzz with them. Results just widely vary and tend to disapoint.
I think IK has finally solved those issues by utilizing things like pairing variable instrument impedance alongside Jfet transistors on an atypically higher headroom input.
From what I gather the ToneX pedal borrows from the AXE I/O in that regard, and thus boasts that when physically putting your OD in front of your amp and the ToneX capture of said amp?
It will perform 99.9% as one expects it should!
    Wowzers!
That's honestly a huge game changer for me, as I am traditionally an all analog rig lover transitioning to digital, but refuses to give up my font end analog signal chain!
    Not only that?!
This ToneX pedal introduces technology to the masses that was physically only obtainable at literally three times (or more!) the introduction price just a few years prior!
That's a huge leap IMO. Damn!
It's a great time to love guitar!
    Great content as always Kyle!!
    Rock on dude!!!

    • @SaintKines
      @SaintKines Год назад

I have the Axe I/O Solo and in my experience it has the best guitar/instrument input I've used. I went through quite a few interfaces in the 500 and under price range before I settled on it. The Jfet switch and impedance control does more than RUclips videos can show you. I also feel like the Axe Solo has enough headroom for anyone. Whether you're using active or passive pickups it has the headroom. In one of my Ibanez I have very hot passives and though I nearly have to go all the way down on the passive pickup setting, it does cover it. This was a huge problem with many of the other interfaces I used.
The only knock I could give to it is that the amp out on my untit is not quite as hot as it should be. Some have worked around this by boosting the amp out signal with a pedal but you shouldn't have to do that. I've heard they fixed this on the newer models so maybe that's no longer a problem either.
It takes pedals in front very well in my opinion and the mic input is much better than I expected, considering it's an interface targeted towards guitarists and trying to be under a certain price range.
In short, it'll do it and it's worth the money. There are always better options if money is no obstacle of course.

When I'm playing at home I cant really turn up my amp if my wife is home as she lost hearing in one ear so we have to be careful of loud sounds so she doesnt go completely deaf. Hey Kyle, I am also form the same area as you. Congrats on the success of the channel !!! I bought the Tonex pedal after a few months of watching reviews. Right now I am trying to get it up and running in my studio rig. I am trying to integrate it ( please don't laugh ) with my eleven rack modeler. I have it running in the effects loop and it seems okay so far. I would like to know if you can control both units at the same time to do patch/ rig/ tone model changes through MIDI? Examples, use the Tonex for the amp and cab models, but use the Eleven rack to run delay and chorus, Then switch to a drive sound and the tone model changes along with a an eleven rack sounds. All seamlessly on both units. Can out help out, or know someone who can? I agree that you should be able to run tone modeled drive pedals along with any tone modeled amp. If you can mix and match amps and cabs, why not drive pedals and amps? I just hope that if they do update this, it can somehow be a software/ firmware update and not a new pedal that you have to buy ( with my luck ). That's why I waited to buy it, to see how the reviews went for a few months

As a harmonica player, this Tonex player seems very enticing, if ... it can be patched with the elusive combination of unobtainably rare & expensive amps that actually sound & work well for amplified harmonica. Whether or not it'll be achievable at any stage it's hard to say, but I love the concept of having an all-in-one tone box, then plug into a clean amp, FR/FR speaker or PA. I think the price point of the Tonex is pretty reasonable considering what other products cost. In the meantime, I'll sit on the fence and think about it.

You could run this through the FX loop of a regular guitar amp, as this is essentially a preamp and the FX loop on a regular guitar amp is (typically at least) after the preamp but before the power amp. I know that lots of people do this specifically with things like the ToneX and other similar products like the Quad Cortex instead of also getting a separate power amp. One guy I know specifically uses the FX loop on his JCM900 as a power amp for his Quad Cortex.

One think that would be really cool, if you could turn the poweramps on and of like you can cabs, that would make it far more versatile. You could run it in your effects loop return and not have double poweramp.

Sounds amazing! Can you add high and low cuts to custom IRs? Also is there really no way to add captured drive pedals in front of a captured amp on the ToneX pedal? I was considering selling my HX Stomp for it but these two things would be a deal breaker for using just this pedal live

Was recently thinking of doing an HX Stomp + Pedal Baby/ Power Stage setup setup for playing live instead of lugging my 5150 around, but honestly this is probably gonna change that given its price and being more straightforward than a mega multi FX/modeller like the HX. Hell, even when im just at home It'll sound great through my cabs.

When using the tonex to play through a cab, how would you go about using delay and reverb pedals with it? Would you put the reverb and delay right after the tonex pedal and before the power amp?

    I record direct.
The amps don't sound anywhere near as good going direct as they do going through a cab.
My question is will the TONEX sound as good going direct as it does coming out of your cab?
I do not want to buy one and then have to send it back.

  • @creationzone2891

Yo Kyle it’s funny you and I share the same vocalist. Mike Ledet told me about your channel. So my question is I need a new amp for practice, recording, and maybe a handful of shows a year. No touring just for fun…I used to play a 5150 but I recently came across your video about the ToneX. I’m just wondering should I skip on the 5150 and go all digital this time and have access to many amps instead of being stuck with one? I would get the poweramp for a 4x12 cab. I’m just afraid it’s not gonna be loud enough for band practice and not have that tube sound. But man I’m so close in pulling the trigger this sounds amazing! $399 is a steal! 👊🏻🤘🏻

This unit is only stereo if your using the reverb, otherwise its mono. The stereo comes completely at the end of the signal chain, so after the cabinet. For most, this is fine, but is your not using the reverb, then there's NO stereo.

    • @r.llynch4124

Of course, you need a stereo pedal to get stereo since amps, compressors, noise gates, are not stereo just like any other rig.

With no pedal just the software is WOW, its really good really really good. So home studio guys you dont need the hardware… Unless you want your tones on the couch with headphones.
