Last Friday I got bit by a mare on a little farm. It was my third time there and I was petting her as I always do. She's a biter. She tries to bite my phone, my hat, even though she's great when I give her a bit of grass. I was petting her forehead and she suddenly bit my arm for a split second. I thought it was funny. Something nice happened on that farm thanks to you! They had two other horses that were left with halters on. After my second visit there I asked them to remove the halters from the horses and explained why that was a bad thing - which I've learned from you. The farm is owned by the city. They were nice and said they'd remove the halters from the horses and a week later I went there to check on them and after months of having the halters on their faces, they were removed! Thank you, Graeme. You're creating good horsemanship on the other side of the Atlantic. Haha

I just bought a property with agistment facilities. Keen to learn more about (sand) arena management if poss like maintenance, dragging, levelling, risks, what to look for, etc. My arena is 20 x 60 metres outdoor so only a small one. Great to hear that you had some rain at last, very worrying! My horse likes the hand as a plate method and she usually bites the apple in half, leaving half on the "plate". If I walk off at that point she looks crestfallen 'cos I took away the other half. (I don't do that often 😱🙂)
Oh my goodness that was sooooooo fun! Ha. That “CRUNCH, MUNCH and SQUISH” of the apple 🍎 sound is so satisfying. My fave videos are the sleepy horses, the feeding snacks (apples, pears, candy canes, carrots) to horses and YOU going on nature rides on the horses or infront of the horses in 360 Degrees hopefully walking into water as part of the trail. Your videos just get better and better. You really bring out the horses personalities too. Just superb. Thank you.

Great you had some rain, at last ! I hope the fires stop their progression. It's quite worrying at that level. Greece is burning too as many other places.. Here, we used to cut apples into two when they were rather big. Just before your video, there was a long ad about the transportation of the Olympics horses to Tokyo Business Class, Fly Emirates, 18h, at 17-18°C temperature, almost 28T of horses, food, water, material grooms for each horse..personnel etc. I googled the transportation cost for one horse from US/Canada to Europe. It ranges from 3000 $ to >10,000 $ depending on the Class, the service, the comfort of the horse. I imagine it must cost a fortune to transport all these horses and services to the Olympics.. from all parts of the world. This morning they already lit the 2024 Olympic fires at the Eiffel Tower. This is really bad because on the outskirts of Paris, some people have to be relocated to give room to the Olympics infrastructure constructions.
It amazes me how much it costs to transport a horse as it's really just a cargo plane with heating. Yes, cutting of apples is a thing because people don't want to the "dinner plate" thing and it's hard to hold the apple otherwise. Some people think horses are stupid enough to swallow an apple whole as if they don't have control over their own mouth and tongue too and it makes them feel better to chop up the apple into tiny pieces. I think it's a fine idea for sure if it helps the human calm down about it all and continue to make efforts to hand feed horses safely.
@@StableHorseTraining yes, it makes sense to give it whole, because when horses find apples under a tree they know how to chew them.. .. For the cost of flying horses it's expensive but they pay for the class and the service. I wonder what service they give for the cheapest price.
I often place a small honey-crisp apple in my horses water bucket - one time I saw him dive into it the bucket up to his eyeball trying to chase the apple. IT is good entertainment in the long winter months when the pasture is too wet to be out.

Tip for growing tomatoes: - remove all suckers that grow below the first flower cluster, leave 2 to 3 stems, these will grow and plenty of flowers will appear (producing large tomatoes).

i feed my favorite horse at the stable i work at apples and small treats i know to feed him with a flat hand but after getting more used to it you start to realize that you most likely won’t get bit so i normally hold it with like a combination of both as a convenience for me and the horse. i’ve never gotten bit doing the “not” and i’ve done it many times as well
I have no idea if you like the guy or not, but based on your statement I'd imagine you don't like him as you're worried about being mean.
