CRKT has been around for almost thirty years. They helped end many of the import restrictions that were in place 20+ years ago. They are an outstanding asset to the knife community, as well as to the military.
Translation: They helped Chinafy the knife industry 🤢
This was very enjoyable. I liked that all the tools were from down to earth companies that make affordable gear
Yeah was shocked at how affordable the CRKT stuff is..
@@jamesx7408 test their customer service. You'll be even more shocked how good they are.
Years ago I wrote to them to find out which size Torx bit their pocket clip screws took so I could go buy a wrench to tighten a loose one. They just sent me a new clip... and new screws... and a Torx tool... on the house.
I was thinking the same thing. 👍
Sure would be nice to see a video on how Randy sharpens his tools. Especially his hatchets and axes.
Randy did a video on sharpening that you can find in our video archive. Thanks for, TR
Hi. Would you mind let me know what was the Cold Steel with a lots of mileage knife model?
I'm very interested to buy one.
Thank you
J
The best knife is the one you have on you. I've seen people try to sell knives that were 4 or 5 hundred dollars claiming it was the best knife ever. If you look at the history of pioneers and people who depended on their knives they usually repurposed knives they already had. They'd reshape a butcher knife and that was their go to beater knife for camp craft. They'd have a small folder for more delicate work. Great job and love the recommendations from people who actually use the tools in the field.
No frills...No BULLSHIT...and learning Randy is from my home state of Wyoming!...LOVE IT!
Had 3 knife fights in a former life. Index finger fileted and shoulder driven through. Folders MAKE NOISE! Everyone in the bar hears it lock. music, noise, etc etc. Don't matter.
Keep that in mind and avoid fights until ya can't.
CRKT makes good stuff. I own a handful of their knives. The first one Randy showed is one I carry frequently. I like knowing that they sent you guys a big box of them when you deployed. I like them even more now. I'm going to check out that fox pathfinder. That thing is awesome! Loved every second of it guys. Thanks for sharing, Randy. I love the way you guys talk about tools that work for the job at hand. It doesn't matter about price or name, but what works. I really respect, and appreciate that. Thank you very much.
Randy is awesome. I took some of their classes, and Randy was wearing 7 knives on his gunbelt.
Seven knives is not really that much for a real knife-guy.
I’m not allowed to carry a knife at work…
so I only carry three. 😎
Normally, I will have five.
I just saw this video, I'm a " Edged Tool " guy of 77 years, Vietnam Naval Combat Vet., 64-68, I still use my KBAR., among others. I just subscribed to your channel. D. Hughes, Blessings 🙏
Thank you for your service. TR
23 yrs in the army for me but the KBar is an awesome and very useful knife 👍👍
I so much appreciate that Randy is getting more film time to share that massive amount of knowledge and experience with us!😎👍👍
Agree with CRKT. Great customer service. Good quality and generally affordable.
Great information. I carry 2 blades, 1. 18 inch Ontario Machete, and 2. Victorinox Trekker.
There's a reason the Vikings liked and used their bearded axes to great effect wherever they went, they weren't just a tool, they were a phenomenal fighting weapon.
Crkt is great! Their customer service is 2nd to none. I ordered a new clip for my crkt fossil. It had been discontinued so they said i could send in my knife and get any knife in their catalogue or get 50% of any other blade and keep it. I kept it and got the ramada for half price! I love em they are super cool!
Would like to see a video on the deer skinning technique. Sounds awesome.
Id like to see it done on some politicians and their donors🤣
The google moderator eating hot pockets in his basement probably wouldn’t approve
I bet with enough cordage and golfballs, you can take care of multiple carcasses at the same time.
@@hardwired3640 who cares !
Thank you soooooo much for taking a commercial break! Your the first I’ve seen to do it and it’s sooo much better.
Glad I could help!
I have a crkt minimalist neck knife been wearing for a few years hardly ever take it off. Perfect little back up knife.
I used to carry a CRKT M21. I loved the flipper on it, and I considered this knife extremely fast and intuitive to employ. I used it extensively for years. Then someone got me thinking about knives as they applied to personal defense. I am under the impression that inside a certain distance, one shouldn't bring a gun to a knife fight. If I am in a fight at inside the bathroom stall distances, where I am likely to be tied up and grappling, and my draw is likely to be contested, I will go for my knife before my sidearm almost every time. But this means I had to be confident in my ability to draw and employ my folding knife while in the clinch, or otherwise at extremely personal distances. So I had a friend with a plastic spoon attempt to "rob me at spoon point." We always ended up tied up, and I was never able to deploy the CRKT successfully, even though I had done it thousands of times before and considered it so simple and intuitive when not under duress, while trying to keep from getting "stabbed" and having someone grab and slap at my hand while I was trying to get it into the fight, it proved impossible. I didn't have much better luck with my Benchmade auto. And I no longer consider a folding knife applicable to self defense. Because the bad guy is not going to allow you to do your little wrist roll, your fancy flick thingy, that trick with the zip tie, none of that. It all requires too much coordination while struggling to keep your feet under you and desperately trying to not get stabbed. It is legal in my state, so I carry a small, by my standards, fixed blade, a Tops HOG4.5. No hinges to fill with pocket link and debris, no buttons or flippers to find, springs to wear out, no fine muscle coordination required. Just grab the handle, gross motor coordination gorilla grip is fine, and yank that son of a bitch out. I highly recommend anyone carrying a folding knife for defense to run some exercises with you.
Great "Old School Cool" and affordable choices Gents.
THANK YOU !
Our pleasure!
Love to see Randy's fighting knives
Great video guys! I'm an axe fan myself. Haven't seen that coldsteel model in a very long time and btw for any wondering the "el chete" is made by Tops. Looking forward to the fighting knife video! 🤘🔪🤙
Anything made by Tops is good stuff.
Great video. Like Randy's tools, my best tools are worn, ugly, long lasting, and most importantly... they work.
With all the knives Randy has used I’m sure he has some stories about getting bad cuts accidentally, could be a dual purpose topic with some first aid worked in
Great info! Thanks for your service and being real Americans!!
I have that same CRKT hatchet myself, chosen because it does look so much like a Viking bearded axe...everything positive Randy said about it has proven true every time I've used it. It's great for shaving kindling, splits tinder like a champ, and I've used the back of it to drive tent stakes...of course the best part is looking like a "badass" in front of the "city kids" by using a single tool for every stage of building a campfire with a single tool. (It doesn't hurt that I can also accomplish many of the same tasks with my Cold Steel SF, their answer to the Ka-Bar USMC knife...good for driving tent stakes, chopping wood by batoning the back of the blade with a stick, and shaving kindling with ease...again it's fun to see the amazement in the eyes of folks that likely weren't Boy Scouts or the like growing up watching someone using fairly easy if not standard bushcraft skills do things that make them think I grew up on some mountain somewhere only to find that I grew up only a few miles from Disneyland.)
That wrapped axe. That wrapped! Did you see the quality of wood on the handle? Gorgeous.
Quick tip: a zip tie can act as an improvised Wave on your Spyderco and other knives with a thumb hole.
Randy has awesome knowledge. I never knew you could sharpen a knife on a car window until he showed us.
Where did Randy talk about knife sharpening?
You can find that video in our video archive. Thanks for watching, TR
Randy has to be my favorite guest on your show. Reminds me of a much older more bad ass cersion of myself. I can imagine the funny looks he gets when he sits down for a meal and whips out a blade as I too have experienced this. Love your work Gentlemen, please keep these videos coming. Best late night entertainment I have.
Thanks for watching, TR
I love the fact that you bring experts onto your channel.
Which is why I’m subscribed
Thanks for the support
Karl has quite a crew! Definitely has many subject matter experts. All of them are basically legends in the special forces community!😎🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
Thank you Randy!
I love knives! I will never go to the taiga without an axe. But the best weapon in hand-to-hand combat in a trench is an ordinary sapper shovel with sharply ground edges. Do not forget, an infantry soldier must carry everything on himself. A sapper shovel is a must. An axe it's overweight.
I would agree for infantry that always have to dig in. Again, agreeing if we were in trenches. However, we are talking camping and wilderness, where I have gone many trips without having to dig.
Randy will cover his fighting knives in a different video.
Thanks for watching, TR
CRKT you just earned my business for life! I was already a huge fan! Thank y’all for supporting our troops!!!!
They took great care of us!!!
@@TacticalRifleman ❤️I’m glad brother! Just in case no one’s told you today THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE!
To Big Joe. I purchase two CRKT and some other brands of knifes at haft price. This knifes are in new or 90% and were never sharpen and abused. I pick the knifes up at a airport impound lot run by my state. You want to check your state if they something like this.
@@scottflowers7780 heck yeah I will! Thank you!
I have the El Chete from TOPs and they will re-edge if you mess it up just pay for shipping. But I have cut small trees down with it
Thank you so much, it was big pleasure! I learned one important thing!
You can do a hell of a lot with a garden variety machete. And in S. America they use a knife about half way between a butcher knife and a machete, blade 10-12"' long. very useful.waht mountain men carreid ws NOT a fancy damascus bowie or something it was Green River knives with about 5" blades. They bought Green Rivers by the dozen, as they lost or broke or wore out knives, and also traded them to Indians. I like the littel bearded ax. The Norse used those for boat building, among other things. They had bigger ones for wood chopping and fighting.
Randy’s skills and experience are legendary and he’s got the right tool for the task 🇺🇸
Randy is awesome
Love CRKT , OWN 3 Beckers ,m-16 is my EDC . EVEN THE STAINLESS STEEL ( hate stainless) hold and take an edge. Must have 5 minimalist the NEW DUAL GRIND KATANA MINIMALIST is the ultimate choice 85% of all you’ll need ! $32!
Absolute favorites:
Axe - Snow & Nealley 3-1/2-pound single bit
Hatchet - Estwing Sportsman Leather
Knife - USMC, Fighting Utility (K Bar)
EDC - Buck 285 Bantam
Pocket tool - Victorinox Classic SD or Manager
I was a loyal customer of CRKT. I had a problem getting a handle to fit there tomahawk I purchased. One of there employees talk to me like they bought me at an auction.
JKL LV
Nothing wrong with CRKT and Coldsteel knives. He picks good brands and has a good philosophy of use for them.
Love these Randy videos! He's such a wealth of knowledge! Loved the photos from his time as a Green Beret, and Cowboy. Tell Randy we appreciate him sharing his knowledge.🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
I don't think you should be apologizing for showing gear that works. Especially with someone like Randy's *experience* paring down to the tools that work for multiple purposes. While shinny new gear might be cool, I much prefer gear that works!
Thanks to you both for showcasing these!
I love CRKT products too, they strike the price-quality balance pretty well and, well, some of their designs are just cool
Excellent video. You two are awesome. God bless.
I have that second CRKT (Obake) in my pocket right now, and that wrap is factory. It is my personal steak knife and I love it.
I also have a waved Endura 4 and I tried to cut after one of those failure to lock, thank God for gloves.
Does Randy use Saws much? A Silky saw would fit right in there.
Randy shares his saws in another video that you can find in our video archive. Thanks for watching, TR
Congratulations on 700,000 subscribers
Thank-you for putting in the break
A good sharp camp hatchet is priceless
Appreciate the affirmations, great minds do think alike .great video.
Yes! Thank you!
Great info but the crkt obake doesn’t have a belt clip and come with the 550 cord wrapping.
Informative and beneficial video
Thanks for watching, TR
Awesome guys, loved it.
Thanks Gents!
Nice.. I like those tools better because they already sold out well built they are they might not be the shiniest but I will put them against anything that's made in this time
Yeah!! Randy is back. Love Randy’s realistic point of view no gimmicks or bs. 🇺🇸
Randy is awesome
@@TacticalRifleman Hi Karl,
Randy is one of my favorite old school but real.
Thanks for the fun show last night Steve never disappoint.
Enjoy your time off.
I wonder what the name of that tiny ax that the professional said was for pounding is.
Tops, Cold Steel. CRKT Knives - AWESOME!!!!
Love my Fiskers axe the only difference is mine is all composite handle . My question would be what are the advantages or disadvantages between wood or composite
The Fox Pathfinder is sold out. Thanks for showing us the tools you USE.
I love CRKT knives. They do what you need em to
Thanks Karl and randy
Have a few CRKT products, including the Freyr bearded axe. Great stuff. Best bang for the buck IMHO.
Thanks TR for another outstanding educational video. Sent I been watching your channel. Your team and especially Randy has open my eyes on carrying more than one knife. My everyday carry at work and home are two different types of knifes . First knife is a (beater) work knife and the Second is a personal defense knife. Also carry multiple knifes and tools in my vehicle for emergency.
I love Randy's segments.
A few short video clips with your expert using each tool, along with him maintaining (sharpening) that tool after each use, would improve your content - especially for visual learners. Having said that, I did enjoy the undeniable authenticity of the presentation.
Always love a good video with Randy! Thanks to both you guys.
Another Fantastic Video full of great information.. Nothing but the best from Karl and The Chief..!!
Great presentation. I have taken an old Carpenter's Hatchet and undercut the blade to make it bearded then put a small boys axe handle on it and also re-profile the blade Edge. So I get it chop feather pound all-in-one.
I carry the Spiderco Emerson wave and mine didn't open completely one time so I took it apart and put some lithium grease on the metal to metal contact points and it opens every time now.
I like knives. You like knives. We all like knives.
What do you use to treat your wood axe handles with to prolong life? do you an oil, or some type of stain? I've heard of people using a 50/50 linseed oil and turpentine to treat the wood.
Great video guys.
Shoe Goo is a rubber cement of sorts. Does it not stand to reason that there is at least a vibration dampening if not shock absorbing?
Yep
Fiskars is a amazing blade company, the splitting axes are smartly designed
Agreed. Thanks for watching. TR
Folding knifes tend to break on me, not just cheap knifes. I love using fixed blade knifes, neck knifes, including pioneer woman paring knifes for concealing.
Randy speaks, I listen!
This is a great format for videos. Appreciate it not all the marketing b******* just tried and tested s*** that works
Hey gents, great tools CRKT rocks! Wonder if we crossed paths in the sandbox was there same time ..that was some heat left 3 shades darker lol
The El Chete is made by TOPS Knives, in case Randy was wondering.
Randy already has one, but thanks for helping the rest of us out. TR
That bearded hatchet is badass and that baby hatchet is too.
He has an awesome collection of knives. Randy has a great wealth of knowledge and experience. Tell him thank you for his service for me, when you see him. 👏
Will do
I’m with Randy, I will take out my Kershaw Link and cut my steak/meat in the restaurant! That’s my edc folder, quality steel holds an edge, easy to sharpen, & I paid $30 for it a couple of yrs ago so affordable. But YES I will cut my steak with it…
Great video! Thanks Randy!
Somehow, I've ended up with most of those names in my everyday and specialty cutting tools - Browning, Fiskars and Spyderco plys a couple others like Winchester and Buck.
I need to check out and stock up on the CRKT line tho.
Excellent advice here!
Cutting and incisive!... pun intended.
Thanks for posting this!
Interesting, I don't think I would select the same stuff but there's a vast number of options out there.
The el chete is a Tops product. Bad ass cutter
I would love to see his combat blades! That's a very impresivd collection and i will be picking up that CRKT Fryers Axe! Thanks a lot and God Bless!!!!
Thank u for ur service first of all.
What kind of sharpener does randy use
We actually have a whole video on Randy’s sharpening that you can find in our video archive. Thanks for watching, TR
This was awesome!!!!!!!! Thanks Karl!!!!!God bless you
Thank you
You are welcome.
Yeah, its definitely nice to hear how each can best be utilized in the field.
It's always good to see Randy in a video. He is an American hero.
Would really enjoy a video on how he sharpens the various knives and tools.
He has a sharpening video that you can find in our video archive. Thanks for watching, TR
I Cary a nice in both front pockets two in a button pouch on belt and one clipped to my right side pocket, dunno why just do
Got a CRKT bearded axe just like that one. It's a favorite. Question do you recommend using a monopod on an AR-10 stock? Some folks prefer lead shot bags. I seem to remember some of the old XM- 21s having them. What's your take?
I used (and still use) a sock filled with Beans.
@4:56. I carry that around my neck. That knife is a love hate relationship. I sharpen knives as a little side gig and feel that the steel is a little softer than I would like it. It doesn’t hold an edge for very long it’s either that or I beat the crap out of my edges and am not aware. I guess I am more partial to carbon steel blades opposed to stainless
Can’t wait for the fighting knife video!
don't be sorry about having old tools. sometimes, they just don't make them like they used to. besides that, Randy isn't a spring chicken, and likely has had many of his tools a long time. and tools that last over time is the true test of how good they are.
I own about 10 ESEE, Morakniv, and fiskars tools. Out of all, I find my 60$ ESEE Darien machete and a little 2.5 inch CR2.5 are all I need. Maybe a silky pocketboy for shelter building. I've found a lot of the concepts he's explaining here apply to my kit too.
Love my Silky foldable saws! Have a Bigboy, Gomboy, and pocketboy. I definitely seem to use the Gomboy the most. But that's only because I use it for camping, and I process quite a bit of firewood while camping. The pocketboy is great for small stuff. I keep it in my truck, just incase I ever break down and need to build a fire or shelter. It definitely does the job. I just like the Gomboy the most. If you don't have one yet, you should get one. The Bigboy is great when you need to process logs over eight inches in diameter. Silky saws are definitely my favorite!!
@@americanpatriot6918 the big boy is a powerhouse. U see the new outback edition silky's?
@@codycox2685 I did. They're supposed to have a wider more rugged blade. The blade is black, with what looks like wooden grips. I found the medium sized one, like the Gomboy size. And it wasn't a bad deal, I believe it was around 60 bucks. Even came with some kind of sheath. I have backups to my Bigboy, Gomboy, and Pocketboy. Also have a spare blade for each one. Still haven't had to use a new blade or saw. And I've sawed through thousands of dead trees, and whatever other trees that needed to be cut. Either for firewood, or just to get it out of my way. Like I said, I mostly use my Gomboy, and it's still saws through wood like a hot knife through butter! Silky beats out any of the other foldable saws in my opinion. They definitely make being able to process enough wood to keep a fire going an achievable goal. I love doing my camping trips! I throw everything I need in a rucksack, grab my two dogs and go! Without one of my Silky's, I would have a hard time processing enough firewood to keep me warm, cook, keep the bugs and the coyotes or other predators smelling the food I'd be cooking on the open fire away from my camp. I use a bedroll cooker for that. It's basically an adjustable grill that you can move left, right, up, and down. Making cooking over the fire something you'd enjoy. Anyways, I think I've rambled on long enough. 😂😂Silky is definitely awesome!! Have a great day brother!!!!!!!!🤜💥🤛🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
@@americanpatriot6918 Sounds like a damn good camp to me. I do a lot of the same things. I use a folding titanium grill over the fire. Or I'll cook up a stowaway gourmet dehydrated meal. I think I'll wind up with a silky gomboy outback. They use a nickel coating on the blade which attracted me to it. Didn't know they made the blade thinker. Want one even more now.
@@codycox2685 Sounds good to me. I bring freeze dried foods with me to, usually Mountain House, Peak Refuel, Nutrient Survival, or Stowaway Gormet. I like the Boar Bacon Chilli from Stowaway. I like my regular Silky's, but who knows, I may have to get an Outback series one too one of these days, they are pretty dang cool.😎🤙
